Dave Suiter To Go Cross Country At 70 Years Old
Head out on the highway. Lookin' for adventure and whatever comes my way.The words from Easy Rider and quite fitting.
Hi Joe,
Will be 70 in June so this will be my last big trip on my Honda ST1300 motorcycle.
My plan follows;
Leave home 12 April and head west on US#50 to the west coast. 50 now ends in Sacramento.
No set schedule. Going solo!!
Will stay on 50 except when I get into Utah. Plan 3/4 days around Moab to visit Arches, LaSal Mountains, Canyonlands, Goose Neck, Monument Valley, up 95 and 24 through Hanksville to 50 again. Google earth has several pictures of this area and one on 24 that looks like the Forrest Gump shot where he suddenly stopped his running.
Plan a couple days in Sacramento to visit John Sutter fort and mill. Our name in Switzerland was spelled SUTTER and SUTER. Where Sutter came from in Germany is a few KM from where my family came from in Switzerland. We have never found documentation to relate us but great grandfather said that we are related/cousins.
From Sacremento, north along 1 and 101 to Redwoods, Eugene, OR and up to Portland.
Then ride east along Olympia Gorge.
From there, it's all east. No set places to stop .
So that's about it. May be gone 4-6 weeks!!??
Do you want any pics that I take along the way??
Later,
Dave
Since you'll be in Utah, don't miss Capitol Reef---you'll understand "purple mountains' majesty" and also make sure to hit Bryce Canyon. You won't be sorry.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe and wonderful trip!
Oh, can I go too? Sounds like a wonderful trip. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteone very intreseting picture you may want to take for everyone is the sign that says "ocean city, md" on the other end. Have a good trip!!!
ReplyDeleteWhile many have the dream and desire to head "One Way, California" the feelings at the other end just aren't the same. I actually know many that went and chose not to return. I can't say the same for Californian's.
ReplyDeletewhy go alone, take your wife with you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Dave! Have a great time and take lots of pictures.
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip!!!
ReplyDeleteDave have a great time and be safe.

ReplyDeleteI've got a picture of that sign in Sacramento... I was surprised to see it.
Dave - wish you the best! Please be careful.
ReplyDeleteDave, please try to keep a diary, you will no doubt meet some very interesting people and see some very note-worthy things. Perhaps you can give us "stay at homes" a journey story when you get back, or a photo story.
ReplyDeleteBe safe, and have a wonderful time.
