WICO Program Schedule, Monday-Friday
There has been much talk this morning about WICO changing their format. For me personally, I never did like the Bill Reddish Show and I'd very rarely listen in unless I knew there was going to be a hot topic, (which is very rare, especially after the Mayor spanked Bill Reddish).
Nevertheless, Bill has always come off as a very arrogant pompous ass to me and others and quite frankly he's not going to be in Radio much longer anyway. The Book Review Interviews were about the biggest joke I had ever heard in Radio but I guess it pays the bills.
Anyhow, like Bill or not, he's not really going anywhere. He used to Host a 3 hour talk show in the morning which has now been condensed to 30 minutes. I guess a lot of others felt the same way about his show as I did. Give me just a little bit and piece of the man and maybe that can be tolorated.
The local 1/2 hour show will still offer interviews with people like Debbie Campbell, Rick Pollitt, Jim Ireton and others, so that's not going away. The main difference now will be that he be on FM 92.5 from 8 AM to 8:30 AM. I think that's a lot better as well. No more of that 7:40 AM crap.
The big announcement no one has heard as of yet is that Rush Limbaugh will be moving to 92.5 FM next Monday from 12:00 to 3:00 weekdays. Although 92.5 will be all talk radio during the week, they will provide music from the 60's & 70's on weekends. Now that I like! I always enjoyed that station and will probably be a regular listener on weekend anyway.
The funny part about this entire situation is this. A select group of people got their panties all in a twist over their decision to change the format, yet the majority of listeners don't even get out and VOTE! "What did you do to my Bill Reddish Show!" Who gives a crap! You don't vote anyway and not enough people were listening in to that show.
If Bill really wanted an audience he'd start his own Blog and stop stealing news from Salisbury News without giving us any credit for our work. Heck, he doesn't even give the Daily Times credit for their articles as well. So for me personally, I'm glad he got the boot from a 3 hour show to a 1/2 hour show. They say he'll now have the spare time to go out to different events and cover stories. P-L-E-A-S-E! And do what with it? He's only got a half hour show now.
Oh well, that's their problem. It will simply be nice to see Bill Reddish get off his arse and get out there and get his own news for once. To walk around like your poop doesn't stink, while your stealing news from everyone else's hard work, that just sucks and so does his show. Just my opinion anyway. He claims he doesn't like Salisbury News but he sure likes to take material from us.
Oh no!IF 92.5 is going to all talk,my only alternative will be 98.5,which I listen to in the AM (Bob & Tom) anyway.Time to dig out the ELO and Steve Miller records!
ReplyDelete96 Rock is awesome but I cannot get it in clear and even though 93.5 comes in good,I am really turned off by their DJ's-they have one guy who literally bullies people on the air.Its a rock station dude, not talk-radio.We get in country stations but....country music bl*ws....
i have always enjoyed bill's talk shows, when i was able to listen, and am glad that he will still be on the air....
ReplyDeleteRush is on now!
ReplyDeleteWe can't always agree. I like Bill's show...sorry you have your "pants in a twist".
ReplyDeleteJoe, I doubt you'll see many comments here because not that many people actually listen to his program. I did a couple of times after you put up someone being interviewed and I tried listening a few other times but I agree with you, the show was boring.
ReplyDeleteBill did much more than politics on his show. He was always available and very welcoming to the many charitable organizations in need of publicity. Representatives from PRMC often were on air sharing information about public health and specific programs there. He regularly had officials on to talk about programs of a non-political nature. Until he was "blackballed" by BPT, he talked with SPD reps as well as Public Works and Code Compliance. He filled an important niche, and for the most part did it well. It is more than just a job for him. The public owes a debt of gratitude to WICO and Bill Reddish for the service they have provided for the last several years. Bob Caldwell
ReplyDeleteI am going to miss Bill Reddish's show in the morning. I oftened listened and enjoyed the interviews he had on.
ReplyDeleteFroggy 99.9 country...I listened to the morning show but lately their topic content is lacking! The straw that broke the camels back was when Mike spoke porely of Jim Ireton without even knowing him. I changed the station to WICO. No more Mike for us..
ReplyDeleteWe can't always agree, but your very personal, constant attacks on Bill Reddish is very small-minded, Joe. As a working stiff (home on lunch break), I don't appreciate you mocking people who have to work for a living.
ReplyDeleteI met Bill Reddish once. There was nothing stuck up about him at all, unlike many of the local "personalities" that have come through here.
And I don't appreciate a man stealing my material without giving credit for it. I tried speaking with the man last weekend and he turned his back on me. He did the same thing at a debate recently. Bill Reddish puts his pants on the same way every other man does. From this point forward he will receive the same treatment from me.
ReplyDeleteJoe I agree with you! I have always found Bill Reddish to be arrogant and self absorbed! Probably the most annoying voice on the radio. His book interviews were a joke, and his interview style horrible. He obviously liked hearing is own voice. Goodbye Bill Reddish you will not be missed.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he isn't that way with everyone just people he either don't like or don't see eye to eye with..just a thought
ReplyDeleteOne thing is for sure here Joe. At least now Bill Reddish and WICO will have a larger audience then they ever had in the past due to this article.
ReplyDeleteBill Reddish was always willing to help local non profits share their news and needs with the local public and I personally found that very beneficial. Poor move on WICO during these tough times.
ReplyDeleteBill Reddish deserves major credit (as does this blog, to be sure) in hastening the end of Barrie Tilghman's tenure as mayor, and possibly the defeat of Gary Comegys next week. Why WICO has reduced his air-time for a inane program is impossible to fathom.
ReplyDeleteI'll be listening to his morning segment, which is just after the * AM news -- he will be running his joint interview-debate with Comegys and Jim Ireton, beginning tomorrow, but probably will no longer listen to WICO at any other time in the 6-9 AM period.
that sucks. 92.5 was an excellent station the way they were. no one else around her played the type of music they did. hope another station like them goes on air soon. they could have left the talk radio part on the am dial.
ReplyDeleteUpdate --
ReplyDeleteIn my earlier post, make that just after the 8 AM news for the Comegys-Ireton programs, beginning tomorrow (April 1) on WICO.
"3:32"
Sorry, Joe. I'm a faithful listener of Bill Reddish's AND a faithful read of this blog.
ReplyDeleteReddish doesn't use your material. You may cover events, but you don't own the events. Every time he has referenced something from the Daily Times (or other post), he will say exactly what it's from.
Maybe he won't talk to you because you blow hot and cold on people, one day singing their praises and the next day damning them to he**. Or maybe because you are so over the top on some things, the good work you do on others isn't enough.
No matter. I'm not going to pick one of you over the other. Suffice it to say, Reddish never puts you down on his medium the way you do him on yours.
BTW, I have to agree with your commenter at 1:35 p.m. Don't put people down because they have to earn a living. If anything you ought to be putting down Barrie Tilghman and Louise Smith for their continued tirades against Bill and WICO.
Never seen anything like it, and I've lived lots of places (ex-military).
"Stop stealing news from Salisbury New." Mmmm, interesting. I never knew an event considered newsworthy could be copyrighted or protected by anyone. If that was the case, we'd be unable to read accounts of the same event in all those newspapers, online, as well seeing them on all the national networks. Now if you're suggesting you invent news or are writing fictional accounts of incidents that never occurred, you may have an argument. A poor one, but better than the one you stated in your piece.
ReplyDeleteGive us the whole Neal Boortz show
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bob Caldwell on this. The local public owes a lot to Bill Reddish for his take on politics. It was great to hear him expose the dirty politics of the Tilghman administration. It was also great to hear him "interview" Louweasel. Not long after that we had to hear the Louise Smith Disclosure every 5 minutes about whose comments were being made.
ReplyDeleteIm happy that I can finally cancel XM because of them picking up Glenn Beck's show live from 9am to noon. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteRemember what lengths the mayor and louweasal went to to get Bill fired?
ReplyDeleteAt least Bill's show was once of the few media spots here that let people have their say and asked tough questions. So much the mayor wouldn't allow her minions on the show.
We agree with Bob Caldwell. Reddish can't help his voice, either, no more than anyone can help not being "good looking" enough to be on tv.
ReplyDeleteHis service has always been one of devotion and caring.
We'll NEVER forget that interview with "Weezie", and neither will she!
Bill Reddish replacement show, "The Big Talker" morning show, with
ReplyDeleteMichael Smerconish is ok for those interested in the Phialdephia area,
but doesn't do much for Delmarva.
Joe, your visual format complimented
Bill's audio format very well, to give the community "the rest of the story" on politics, crime, sports.
John Robinson's short lived amateur hour, showed just how professional Bill Reddish is.
We've lost our hearing. Now we need
you to help us improve our vision to compensate for this loss.
The people that wanted free advertising on WICO are the ones that miss Bill's long form show. Oh, poor Bill. If they liked his show so much, why didn't they sponsor it? The only thing that hasn't gotten any smaller is Bill Reddish's ego. He doesn't care about the community, charities, or news. He cares about his ego and what people think of him. Good riddens. Bring on the professional news people.
ReplyDeleteOne thing is for sure. The folks over at Delmarva Broadcasting will give a format or a program a good run before pulling the plug. If Reddish had worked for the evil empire of Clear Channel he would have been gone long ago.
