City faces

Sewer plant

hurdles

SALISBURY — The city

has hit some obstacles in the

state-of-the-art upgrade to the

wastewater treatment plant,

Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman

announced Monday. As a

result, a new consultant has

been hired to determine the

cause of the problem and

how to proceed.

“I am optimistic that once

the consultant is brought in,

his experience and expertise

is going to greatly help us,”

said Council President

Louise Smith.

The plant project upgrade

has cost $80 million to date.

Tilghman said about 40 percent

of the cost has been

funded by the Maryland

Department of the Environment

and the federal

Environmental Protection

Agency after the city worked

with the two agencies for

years to develop an acceptable

plan and successfully

tested a pilot version of the

design in the mid-1990s.

There have been hiccups

throughout the years during

the construction phase of the

upgrade — nearly 1 million

gallons of sewage have been

spilled since 2005.

Tilghman said Monday

  1. It sounds like the rest of that article includes Barrie's attempt to smear Debbie Campbell. Barrie needs to be hung out to dry along with Bubba Comegys, in the upcoming election.

  3. Hiccups?
A million gallons is more like serious vomiting.

What a puff piece. Note the in-depth and highly informative interview with Louise.

The article's absence in the online edition is undoubtedly in response to a Barrie request/threat.

  4. But we do have a very effective WWtreatment facility, and Comeegees is responsible.
That 6 feet drainage pipe into the river from Waverly works (will) just fine. It's called gravity . Anything smaller than a man will wash into the river.

  5. No professional journalist uses the term "hiccup" to describe problems of the magnitude evidenced here. Her bias is showing.

  6. Louise ought to know about the WWTP because she's full of sh**

  7. Saying the filter is slowing in efficiency implies that it was working in an efficient manner prior to this. She lies.

  8. I beg to differ but the spills all in total are more than a 1,000,000 gallons. Some went unreported also. The bales of straw on Fritzwater where children play?

  9. D'allesandro is a hack who does whatever her mean 'ol bosses tell her to do. She's as worthless as the rag she writes for.

  11. 9:50, you sure hit THAT nail on the head.

  12. No comments allowed today, one stinger got by them yesterday, though. The DT is as doomed as the Mayor and her side kick Comegys.
Here's a new thought to ponder...is it worth impeaching Louise since she's not up for reelection any time soon? I'll gladly sign a petition.

  13. 2:07, It's surely worth a try anyway. We might as well do a thorough job of cleaning house while we the people are it.
