  1. Wicomico schools are closed as well, but the kids will probably be disappointed, since it's a professional day.

Wasted snow day as they would say ...

  2. Thank you Daddio...I was wondering why they were not listed as being closed. I have no school age children so was not aware of the professional day. I thought they were nuts for not being listed as closed.

  3. Today is the 1st time in the 14 years I've been at my current job that we are closed due to snow.

  4. State of emergency in Salisbury !
Why is S.U. still operating ?
Will they pay the fine or the tow bill?

  5. Was the Wicomico Professional Day canceled? I think Wicomico Bd. of Ed. employees are off today due to snow. It wasn't on the TV, but my neighbor teaches and he isn't going in today. Was this on WBOC? Do they want us to think the Bd. is open? We knew the kids were off, but I think the adults are off also. That's fine, but why not put that on the list?

  6. There is no need to put it on the TV that the board of ed was closed. All staff got a call to alert them and the kids were already off. The TV is to make sure the people involved know, not so the general public knows who is going to work! I don't think they left it off the TV so you would think they were open! It is none of your business if the teachers were off, but I am one, and yes we are!

My child was out sick Friday, and I went to school today to get some of his books because I thought the schools were open for Professional Day. It would have been nice to know schools were closed before I made the trip.

There are a lot of reasons the public needs to know if the schools are actually closed.

Just because the students are out doesn't mean that the public may not have a reason to contact the school.

As a taxpayer and a parent it IS my business.

PS Thanks for being a teacher. I still believe you have one of the toughest jobs in the world. Enjoy your day off.

Are you kidding? With the number of people employed by the Bd. or doing business with the Bd., of course the public and businesses making deliveries should know the schools are closed.

Why decide to alert staff by phone when the Wicomico Bd. of Ed. is the largest employer in the county? What is wrong with putting the info. on TV like the Bd. used to do? Of course, the calling of hundreds of people is so the public won't know snow days aren't just for the kids.

  11. ALL families with working telephones (provided, of course, that you GAVE the school your correct #) received a recorded message this morning advising that schools are closed in Wicomico County. There is a hotline you can call: 410-677-5100, OR you can check the Wicomico County Bd. of Ed. website. So, no whining that it wasn't on the news. By the way, thank you to whoever at the Board of Ed. decided to close today - caring about your employees' safety is awesome, and definitely promotes strong loyalty.

  12. Of course Professional Day should have been canceled. And people without kids in the system should have to go on a website or call a hotline to find it out. Why put it on television with the other community announcements? Schools are not part of the community.

  13. If school and central office staffs are not reporting for work that's fine but why can't it be on the TV? Even when it's on TV that Wicomico schools are closed for kids, school and central office employees are notified by the Bd. if they are off but that is never put on TV. Why not? Talbot, Worcester, Dorchester all put central office info. on their school closings announcements. Wicomico used to before they figured how to tell personnel to stay home without informing the general public. Just looking at all of the TV announcements gives the impression that the other counties have closed their Bd. of Ed. central offices but that Wicomico's has gone to work when really they haven't.

  14. Dang...stop the shooting! I asked because I was curious if my neices or nephew had to go to school. I don't have a school aged child and no, I don't have a school calender. I just wanted to let them know that in case of an emergency, I was home and they could call me! You teachers are nuts for acting the way you are on here. I'm glad you had a day off to chill out.

  15. My child goes to a private school but follows Wicomico County regarding delays and school closings. Today was not a professional day for his school, so it would have been nice to see the closing posted on the TV listings.
