Comegys and Ireton Answer the Hard Questions?

I wasn't going to bother with the looong pieces in Sunday's Daily Times about Salisbury Mayoral candidates Gary Comegys and Jim Ireton.  I think the objective reader would have to admit that Comegys came off a bit better than Ireton; while the objective vote would admit that Ireton remains the better candidate.  While the two pieces weren't quite fair, they pass for great journalism at the Daily Times.

However, when the unofficial blog of the Barrie Comegys campaign calls the Comegys press release "real journalism" I simply had to respond.  Rarely has "real journalism" appeared within the pages of the Daily Times.  To the best of my knowledge it has NEVER appeared in any piece regarding the Barrie Comegys team.  It certainly has never appeared in a piece written since reporter Laura D'Alessandro began covering the Barrie Comegys administration.

  1. GA you have been in Virginia too long, the DT column was pure drivel, boardering on trash, please,
you of all people know a smear (or attempt to smear peice when you read one. They can't even do that well. If they had used to space for something productive, and discussed the issues with the candidates it would have been to the readers benefit.

My opinion, trash, total waste of my time.

  2. I think it's funny that your mayor thinks that blogging is some sort of menace to her and her city. I've never heard of Salisbury, MD. However, now I will laugh for the rest of my life every time I hear mention of it. What a petty slob she is. Doesn't she have anything better to do with taxpayer's money than ramble on about the dangers of blogs? I'm sorry your Mayor is so petty.

  3. He claims his State vehicle was home because he was on medical leave. Okay, that's fine, but why did he hide it in Parsons Cemetery instead of parking in his driveway.

  4. I'll be doing a write in for Caldwell.

  5. It was a smear job, pure and simple, and it should be ignored as irrelevant. With all due respect, a write-in for Caldwell is a vote for Comegys. That's fine if that is what you want to do, but understand going into it that the result will be a Comegys win. I cannot even contemplate how bad things will get if Comegys is elected.

  6. Write in candidates cannot win, especially with a computer system. The polling places are not equipped to have that many write-ins and people won't want the hassle.

  8. when I try to see the rest of the post, google tells me Delmarva Dealings is a suspicious site, with issues. What's up with that?

  9. Although not a city resident,I have been following the Jim vs Gary contest. Like Fernando, Jim had Gary on the ropes and he let him up. What was he thinking- a off day, let's hope. Salisbury needs new thinking and a fresh start. Mr. Ireton please get your mojo back.

  10. 6:02,

I can assure you, Jim has his mojo back and is ready to fight for the citizens of Salisbury, not against them like the current administration. He had a bad day (who hasn't?) but he is committed to defeating gary Comegys and Tighlman in the election!

  11. 6:02, Jim didn't let up, this is the DT being the DT.

  12. I was disappointed with Ireton's response. Yet, It is not about him but the change this city really needs what I am going to vote for. I will make a mistake one way or another, but certainly, my vote would not go for Comegys. He already had his chance and blew it.

  13. GA, we may not get a whole lot of Posts out of you but let me tell you, when we do it's more than just a pleasure, it's the most professional work done anywhere on the Eastern Shore.

Thanks for sharing this and doing your homework. Don't worry about that other Blogger. He gets NO HITS whatsoever and 90% of his comments he writes to himself hoping people will believe people actually visit that stupid Blog.

You, G.A. Harrison, are one of the key reasons so many come to Salisbury News and I thank you personally for being a part of us.

    GO JIM IRETON!

  16. TO ALL,

The message you are receiving is old. GA has contacted the company that sends you that warning but they have yet to confirm it has been repaired. You have no worries.

  17. It was a pretty boring article, get what you pay for DT, a boring young wanna bee journalist.

No offense Laura but that had to be the most unproductive article I've ever seen that was allowed to take up so much space. Is advertizing down too?

Maybe you should be covering weddings and funerals. Yawn

  18. Anon 1547 -
As I noted, the Comegys piece merely consisted of the DT reporter taking dictation and printing exactly what Comegys said. It didn't matter whether it was true or not. However, to the best of my knowledge Comegys never lied. He just put a really good spin on everything

If you just want to read that Comegys is a bum and Ireton is the next savior of Salisbury don't bother with anything I write. If you're only interested in stuff that you agree with, whether it is true or not, you are no better than the Barrie Comegys folk.

Man up! Examine the stuff critically. Sure, they were tougher on Jim - and could have been a lot worse. Sure they merely acted as a PR agency for Comegys. However, to the average reader (who doesn't understand the innate prejudice of the DT) I am absolutely correct. Comegys comes off better in the article. You'd come off better too if they simply printed what you told them to.

To those concerned about the malware threat -
Google is re-evaluating the site. All of the malware is gone. We're hoping that a batch of new security procedures and patching one hole fixed the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  19. The only "hard" question Gary could answer is, "Creme filled, or glazed".
