I Hope It Wasn't Something Serious!

Hey Joe,

I was on my way to lunch and the both bridges were up and what happens to go speeding by quickly to be stopped.....an ambulance operated by the fire department. I snapped a cell phone picture for your pleasure :)

  1. Can you just imagine IF for some reason during the replacement sewage pipe project causes a total closure of Isabella Street? Emergency services will have to take the bypass if it's a real emergency. If Isabella has to be shut down the next way North is Lake to Jersey Road to Naylor Mill east to RT 13? Somebody having a massive heart attack at the Mall will be long dead before emergency gets there. Ba-Jesus!

  3. again and againg I say...the fire department needs to coordinate with the drawbridge operations! Simply knowing that the bridge is up would allow for quick re-routing up around Isabella and down Mill St. Station 16 refuses to do the responsible things it take to be the best possible! And the said thing is...those things they neglect to do are the easiest...

Pictures like these must make Salisbury feel reeeeeeally safe....

  4. The drawbrigde operator could call the 911 center to advise when the bridge is open or closed. If a call is dispatched the 911 center could advise units that are dispatched on a call. This used to happen.
The rt 50 bridge was down and the ambulance was able to cross there in a timely manner

  5. The bridge tender is supposed to call the 911 operator before opening the bridge. The 911 operator will tell the bridge tender if it's okay to open the bridges, or if the bridge opening should be delayed because of emergency traffic on the way toward the bridge.
    These are the rules.

  6. What you forgot to mention is that immediately after realizing the bridge was up, the ambulance then turned around in the parking lot to the left, and got back on route 50 to continue to the emergency. The reason the ambulance went that way in the first place was to try to get around the heavy traffic on rte 50, trying to get to the emergency as quickly but safely as possible. The crew was not advised by the 911 center that the bridge was up.

  7. If the 9-1-1 center did not have to spend so much time answering STUPID 9-1-1 calls from STUPID callers WHO DO NOT HAVE EMERGENCIES...then maybe the notification could be made to fire/ems units that the bridge is up and to take an alternate route.
