Chief Investigator William Harden Reinstated AGAIN!

Yesterday we produced this article discussing Mr. Harden returning to work after several months away from the WCDC. Once he arrived to work he was escorted back out of the building with a slap in the face and was clueless where to turn. Human Resources instructed him to return to his full-time position after an Appeals Board hearing was held and reversed any and all charges against Mr. Harden.
Today I was told that allegedly Mr. Doug Devenyns wants to appeal that Boards decision but from my understanding that Boards decision is final and cannot be appealed.
I spoke with the County Executives Office just moments ago and they informed me that Mr. Pollitt got right on top of this one and resolved whatever issues there may have been and Mr. Harden will return back to work, (once again) Monday morning at 9:00 AM.
Maybe I should go steak out the place so I can get some photos of Mr. Harden being escorted out of the building again? Then again, perhaps the Warden will consider a brief vacation to collect his thoughts and stop screwing with peoples lives/careers. Time will tell.
Look, I respect Rick Pollitt and his Administration but this kind of BS needs to come to an immediate end. I believe that there are times when power simply goes to some one's head and they think they're untouchable. (like we don't know a whole bunch of their type right here in the Salisbury area) Let's move onward gentlemen. Mr. Harden will go back to his same salary but the job position was a topic the Executive's Office was not willing to discuss.

  1. He should be reinstated in the same position that he held previous.Could be the position is still on the books

  2. The position is still on the books. This was a question posed at the appeal hearing. County policy calls for said employee to be reinstated in same position. I can see where it will be hard for Mr. Hardin to work with the same people that tried to have him dismissed.

  3. How many people has Deveyns fired or demoted and lost on appeal.
Nine by my count and I may not know all of them. Some employees have been transfered just by allegation of wrongdoing then vindicated. Still the one employee who got pregnat by an inmate has yet to charged under PREA. Guess its hard to prove who the father is.

  6. With Mr. Devenyns record of performance anything other than dismisal is unacceptable. If Mr. Pollitt does not agree, maybe he is the one that will be replaced next election.

  8. I wonder how the county's personnel hearing board feels about this-being totally ignored by devenyns and him not being held accountable.so much for the future integrity of the personnel board.they can't feel good about this, knowing that their decisions can be ignored and no one held accountable.what about the county council.can they address this outragious conduct and proceedings being witnessed?

That Chief Investigation job is going to; A-kissing, puppet on a string, ace boon coon, will never let anyone have a fair hearing ever in WCDC especially if the upper management wants YOU out the door, Yes'sa Warden, will do anything fer'ya Warden, been brought and paid for by Director Devenyns-Lt. Lt. Jamison is not the same fair, firm and impartial person you have come to know since the Reign of Devenyns.

  14. This is a major reason the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office and the Department Of Corrections need a collective bargaining contract and a greivance policy that has teeth. I do not know all the details surrounding this issue but it is the same old story. Goverment doing whatever they feel they want to. This man's life has been upside down for months. I know that he proudly served the maryland State Police and deserves much better than this. All county employees desrve better than this. I hope they rank and file can come to terms as to where they stand with the current coucil and Exec. I just dont buy this treatment it is subhuman on many levels.

This behavior by county goverment is exactly why the stituation at the land Fill took place and flourish. The biased and unethical treatment of county employees is less than desirable. I see law suits that will surely come if this continues at a substancial cost to tax payers. The people of this county have to exspect and demad more of the very people we are to trust in these issues.

I can not help but think that if he were part of the inner circle this never would have been allowed to happen. The F.O.P. should take note to this situation and monitor it closely. There appears to be some very questionable politics underfoot. We do not need the stigma the City has endured for years. We should be above this.

Recently a phamphlet was issued to county empoloyees basically inviting them to report standards that are less than professional and ethical to the county goverment.

If you have been bitten by the dog of county goverment why place your hand in the cage again. I for one will research and watch this unfold. I hope that W. Harden will go public with this story. i feel it is something we would all enjoy knowing his side of this conflict.

One never knows the truth when goverment chooses to create a hostile work enviroment. On the surface all appears good because they do control the media. The positive is sites like this one do offer an avenue to state your perception or facts as to what has transpired.

The courts have maintained the protection of people who utilize this avenue as long as there is no malice or libel. I know of no other means that are not biased or controlled by the pressure of politics. Those in power better believe this type of behavior will no longer be tolerated. The fact that the county stepped in and reinstated this man speaks volumes. Somebody got the golden shaft on this deal. Who ever was behind it should pay.

Intergity is when you do the right thing when no one is looking. I feel we all the right to work in an enviroment free of bias and hostility. If creates such a strong work force when those that are deserving are treated fairly.

The days of nepatism should be over. The days of the good old boys taking care of good old boys should be long gone from todays society.

If this county is to be run like a business then all those who work hard should be rewarded. It should not be those who hang out together away from the work place that get all the perks. It just creates low morale. This leads to lost production and quailty work product. it is one of the most basic concepts of leadership.

There should be no prior prejuduice by new leaders. They should assess the situation and make their own appaointments. The ongoing bias from past leadership should be erased and scrutinized closely.

William gates ran a billion dollar corparation on basic concepts that excelled. The concept was not taught at any business college. It was a plain concept, treat people the way you would want to be treated. Those that work hard are rewarded. The Head of any county agency should have an open dor policy that allows the free flow of information to the top. Implementing an employee advisory board does not cost a red cent. The majority think tank can assist in ways that are not allways in stride with the narrow thought process that can be generated a mid-management.

They say perception is reality. This is so true when only half of the conflict is known. Let the employees elect a board. This does give them a voice on issues that may never be heard on a Top Management level for the obvious reasons. The old addage do as I say not as I do will not fly with free thinking educated people.

If this county wants a happy strong work force these basic needs must be met. It is not rocket science, but basic humane treatment of people that have chosen to work in what should be a professional atmosphere. There are those who do truly believe in their service to this awesome place to live. It just makes great sense to have some type of voice when it comes to conditions that may be biased or tarnished. Sometimes we can not see the forrest for the trees.

Mr. Albero continue to do what you do. It does give those a voice that fear retaliation of those who do not want the truth reaching those that need to hear it. Amn effective leader needs this information to lead in a manner that will help our tax dollars be more effective. It is imperative those in mid-management be honest and work for what is just and fair.

All employees of this county need to form an alliance to be heard. There is no truth if no one at the top gets to hear it.

  15. Watch this... In about a month or 2, and I BET I am correct - Devenyns is still warden, kimble is still chief, roberts is still deputy, harden is still internal affairs, but outsider to the command staff and will be counting his days until he is gone AGAIN. Someone will find some way to get rid of him.

Most people on here dont have a real comprehension of how things work. Rick Pollitt is watching his back. The jail is PROFITABLE, and brings him money, so he isnt going to shake things up. Unless there is some kind of undisputable bad thing Devenyn does, where his butt will get nailed to a wall, Pollitt wont do a single thing. Pollitt ran fruitland for god sakes. This is the big leagues now, time for that guy to go. He doesnt run the government he lets it run him.

I am ashamed to say I voted for that man..

Stop.. You come off sounding like ignorant trash. If you want to say something, make your point. For god sakes though, don't sound like a mentally challenged bunch of ten-year-olds..

It is people like you who give us officers at the DOC a bad name. It is no wonder much of the public looks at us like we're little better than the inmates.

  18. Who says the jail bings in money. They keep that place so dark at night, trying to save a penny on electric bill. I figure that after they had an inmate escape they would want to make sure the place was well lit. Check out central booking after dark, wcdc does not have barely any lightins working back there.

  19. To the real long post at 10;56..

I adree with a lot of what you say, but have a few comments. One, the good old boy system is too far ingrained in the redneck populace that were born and raised (or bred) around here for that idea to really bear much fruit. Look at the recent mayoral race. A lot of the local, less savory populace were voting based on "I know comegeys (spelling?) name, so he must be okay". Its just the way little podunk places work.

The other thing you mentioned is the open door policy with Pollitt. That is theoretically a good idea, but in places like the DOC, the Sheriffs office and some other departments, this is a horrible idea.

Officers are expected to follow their chain of command. Go to a sgt, lt, capt, whatever. If your concerns / ideas don't get taken seriously, THEN go to Pollitt if you need to.

I work for the DOC, and know that some of my co-officers get upset over some new policy and go running to pollitt right away without even TRYING to do things the proper way. Its ridiculous.. Not only does it waste money, it wastes everyone's time since pollitt won't do anything about it anyway (see comment above about good-old-boy problem).
