BOSTON – A lesbian couple who led the fight for gay marriage in Massachusetts has filed for divorce. Julie and Hillary Goodridge were among seven gay couples who filed a lawsuit that led to a court ruling making Massachusetts the first state to legalize same-sex marriages in 2004. The couple became the public face of the debate in the state and married the first day same-sex marriages became legal.
The divorce case was filed last week in Suffolk Probate and Family Court and was not unexpected. The couple announced they were separating in 2006.

Further proof that gay couples are just like straight couples. Weird, huh?
ReplyDeletesounds like rachael maddow...
ReplyDeleteThe more things change, the more they stay the same, eh?
ReplyDeleteOnce the novelty wore off and the publicity died down, there was no reason for them to stick together.Nice to know they cut and run when the going gets tough, just like straight married people.
ReplyDeleteWho pays who alimony?!
ReplyDelete"Once the novelty wore off and the publicity died down, there was no reason for them to stick together"
ReplyDeleteIs that why straight people get married and divorced? Give me a break.
Actually, I am in favor of the RIGHTS of gay marriage, IF {and only IF} the parties are held to the same bitter, chicken guano RESPONSIBILITIES/COMMITMENTS of legal "gay divorce." There is no reason Melissa Ethridge {i.e David Crosby's 'BabyMomma'} should joyfully sing "Come to my window" if she isn't fully prepared to lose "half her windows" in state divorce court. BTW...how many good men{s} will be tragic victims of domestic violence fighting it out amongst themselves for the only household chafing dish they once shared if no court is willing to step in and set precedent...
ReplyDeleteThis was all a scam by the lawyers to double their profits.
ReplyDeleteI thought the "sacred" rite of marriage was so that people didnt seperate ? First we open the door to this bonding and then they slap the "rite" in the face.
ReplyDeleteGoes to show....Stand by your convictions or you will fall for anything.
Shocker.
ReplyDeleteShameful that it has become so easy to say "I want a divorce" and go your separate ways. People have no sticktoitofness these day.
Reese Bobby, I agree, split the chafing dish!
ReplyDeleteReese,
ReplyDeleteThen yo should be in favor of gay marriage, which does exactly what you said. I'll put you in the "yes" column.
Hmmm, guess marriage isn't what it used to be in the gay world either huh!
ReplyDeleteThey got outta ther lickety split!!!
ReplyDeletetroll,
