Lynn Cathcart Gets Spanked At Last Night's Forum

While they were very specific last night asking Citizens to only ask questions about the Downtown area, Lynn Cathcart figured she'd get up there and mention her Sin In Law works as a Police Officer for the Salisbury Police Department and wanted to know what each candidate was willing to do for the SPD.
WELL, they weren't going to have any part of that question so they refused to accept the question and said again, only Downtown Salisbury questions from the audience please. This was LIVE on WICO and I'm sure PRMC was on overtime last night as many folks probably went there for oxygen because they were laughing so hard.
Lynn made a complete fool out of herself last night. I was having a nice conversation with her Husband Don when Lynn noticed we were talking and like Hot Lips on M*A*S*H*, (all due respect Don) she came running over and grabbed Don by the arm and dragged him away. She wanted nothing other than to get him away from me. Karma is a biotch, isn't it Lynn. Tell Jonnie I said hello. ;-)
All I kept thinking was, PUT YOUR HAND DOWN, YOUNG MAN, PUT YOUR HAND DOWN!

  1. I actualy give her two thumbs up for asking. I thought you said that two candidates were for removing the chief. This is a political election in a free country, regaurdless of the so called forum, I new both were all bull and no balls, they had an oppurtunity to stand up and LEAD and they wimped out. Not impressed at all.

  2. In this economy I will tell you where you can stick your North Prong. After all the South Prong seems to be such a great success, Jim and Bob if you continue to wimp around the issues, him and the slum-lords are going to run right over you. Maybe you two guys arent made of what you need to be made off to fix Salisbury.

  3. I, too, thought it was "turn about, fair play" at the time, but she had asked valid question that should have been allowed.

And I'm not a friend or fan of Ms. Cathcart.

The moderator also criticised another valid question about whether the candidates could spend enough time in the mayor's office. Ireton went into orbit on that one and never gave a real answer.

  4. The sponsoring organization was not running a general topic forum. They had every right to confine the questions to their area of interest. That's good in a way because otherwise, you get the same plants asking the same loaded questions at every general forum and everything you hear is the same as the last one.

  5. Panther Piss, Their area of interest huh, I thought it was the tax-paying cities area of interest. Sounds a lot like "Special Interest" to me. You have an innocent young girl dead, a man suffocated to death, a county employee shot 8 times and so many stabbings and robberies we cant count them all, I think crime and the Salisbury police department are high priority questions that should be asked. I f your forum didnt see the need to allow questions about all of this then your forum is a damn joke.

  6. While I agree that Lynn Cathcart's question should have been allowed, it truly bothers me to think that while Lynn is now OUTSIDE the box, where her special interests were at the time she was on Council. Take care of my Son In Law. Mind you, her Son In Law is a great guy and so are the rest of the Officers on the SPD. However, let's just look at what's happening to the rest of America.

With this economy, businesses are downsizing because they simply don't have the money to survive. Their work force gets smaller, so should the SPD! You don't grow Government during these hard times and while the rest of America is expected to survive with less Staff, so should the GOB. Look are Lore' Chambers job. Her salary has skyrocketed and quite frankly her position is not necessary. Sure, it's convenient but it's not necessary. There are many people at the SPD who wear a badge but don't necessarily carry a gun or work the streets. I'm talking about at least 1/3 of the SPD sits behind a desk. When Webster feeds you the BS that they have 84 sworn Officers, give me a break. Heck, one of them is their IT guy that works on their computers! No disrespect to that individual but THAT'S NOT A COP!

Lynn, if you came forward with an idea of how to get rid of most of the 3rd floor, cut back to save the taxpayers a ton of money, then and only then would your question be valid. Start cutting back and create a Police Force that is made up of Officers working the beat. My hat is tipped to Detective Tucker. He is one of them men I have seen that went from plain clothed to wearing a Uniform whenever they needed him. How about you Chiefy?

  7. I was glad Lynn was shut down so abruptly. She has cut off so many citizens in her tenure that it was great to see that rules DO apply to her!

  8. Lynn Cathcart can stick it in her ear. She didn't do anything for the police while she was on the council. She should just shut up now and stop using her son in law as a showpiece pawn to pump up her Gary-boy and needle other candidates. That's all that was happening.

  9. I care more about the answers than I do whos asking the questions. If the candidates were man enough to stand up and answer the tough questions than she or someone else wouldnt have to butt in and ask. Just answer the questions that the public wants answers to, how hard can that be. This is politics as usual, a bunch of mouths moving, but nothing being said. Politics as usual.

  10. Joe for the public and for the police officers sake..would you find out the candidates position on increasing pay, number of officers, crime, and equipement?

  11. 12:42 --

Bob Caldwell is the only one who tells us the hard truth -- the City is about on empty due to Barrie and Bubba's bad budgets (millions for a fire station and now new vehicles) and the economic situation. See his website:

    electbobcaldwell.com

Look for another tax increase this year -- especially if Comegys gets thru the primary -- but not much more for police items or pay.

  12. I concur that Cathcart's question was out of order. This was a forum sponsored by a special interest group, Urban Salisbury. Their interest is on the economic development of downtown Salisbury. An hour is barely enough time to pose a few questions, and get an answer from each of the four candidates, directly relating to the issue of economic stimulation in downtown Salisbury. Having the candidates using limited minutes addressing an array of questions from anyone in attendance would have been counterproductive to the defined objective of this particular forum.

One telling comment made by Mr. Comegys was the quote in today's Times: " As mayor I want to lead that fight to revitalize the downtown." In light of the tone taken by city politics in recent years, I think the taxpayers of Salisbury are more interested in seeing a civil, cooperative effort among its elected officials. It has been because of all the "fighting" that many years have gone by and very little has been accomplished.

  13. The SPD has been motivated to make
money. In order to do this , they must write tickets. Crime is not the priority , speeding and other violations are the agenda. It is
run as a business. I think most
police depts. have some sort of quota , but they need to change the priorities that Webster has set for them , this is not Baltimore.

  14. 2:03, thank you for saying better what I was trying to say. We'll see if Doug Wilkerson sprays you with "panther piss" now.

I'm not against getting the tough questions answered. But let's face it. Most of these forums aren't real debates and there's only enough time for a few questions, especially when the questions are real broad like "describe all the plans you have for everything."

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have looked at their sites and I dont see where anyone of them has really answered anything with any degree of detail. If your going to have a forum with-out enough time to answer anything why even bother. Urban Salisbury is a priority right now, sorry I dont see it. Ask the average tax-paying citizen of Salisbury if they care more about the downtown area or if they care more about being shot. When the economy improves then you can talk all you want about revitalization of the downtown area, until that happens its a dead horse.

  16. All Mayoral candidates should be ready and willing to answer ANY questions about their intentions once in office at ANY time.
Who cares who the sponsor of the forum was! That shouldn't matter.
If it does matter, then I would say that is special interest for them to have that much control over questions asked.
You people agree with that??? Amazing!
No wonder your city is in shambles!

  17. I just stumbled down this comment thread of unrest by accident; but some independent thoughts while I am here:

    1) If Mrs. Cathcart keeps bogarting the mike, she is going to have to accept requests-I for one want to hear her karaoke version of "Copacabana."

    2) Doug. Is "panther piss" like "Monkey Muffins" and "Donkey Doughnuts" a la Sherman T. Potter?

    3) Will I ever be able to use my golf clubs again?

    4) Might as well go on record for the hizz-ouse. Whereas I admire most of Mr. Ireton's platform; if Mr. Caldwell wants the stress of assuming that local dirty diaper he will have to change upon taking over the watch-my vote is with him. Beware the moors-and splitting the vote though....

  18. Please excuse Wilkerson and Reese , sometimes they forget to take their medication.

  19. Fair enough..but how do we stand on the "Copacabana" request? I know she hasn't got the sonic chops to explore the space, really explore the space, enough to channel the fine Ms. Khan {Shhh'khann..Shaka..Shaka-kon..she shaka shaka konned-me last election cycle...insert dance break here}...

  20. Lynn is a bit squirrel-ly I must say, she reminds me of Al Bundy's neighbor Marcy Darcy all looking like a chicken pecking at some feed.

Lynn I commend your work on the park Christmas lights, stick to doing things that make you look good, politics is not your bag BayBee.

Controling people have no business in politics, it's all about "The art of the compromise" to really get anything done.

  21. I got to hear the forum on WICO, but didn't get to check out the blog last night.

Crap, do you all realize that Gary Comegees was talking about that stupid economic development corporation that he and the mayor want?

Another beuraucratic cluster___ and waste of time and money, a place for the Barrie and Gary cronies.

    How much ya wanna bet?

  22. Oh well she had to sit down, know that feeling : / When you dish it out you must be able to take it also.
