Look, you people need to slow down! The 320 comments I mention are just the ones we accepted and have NOTHING to do with the many comments we approved from comments on yesterday's Posts and so forth that came in today. This has got to be one of the busiest days we've ever had comment wise.
Last night I got 4 hours sleep and I haven't stopped running around all day. There are so many things to do for tomorrow and quite frankly, I'm worn out! I can't thank my partner who moderates for me whenever I'm not around and I have to tell you something funny.
When I was driving home today I called and asked how things were going. They said, "HOW DO YOU PUT UP WITH ALL THESE NUTS?" They went on to say that they didn't care what people think, if they complain about their comment not going up, tell them I rejected them because I'm not putting up with all this crap. ROTFLMAO, welcome to my world! I know we had to have received more than 600 comments today but like I said, many went to Posts from yesterday and or other days.
I guess what I'm trying to say here is, quit sending in the personal attacks. Firefighters, come on now, you guys will turn on each other like nothing I've ever seen before. I don't care what you think about me personally but man, if you only knew what we reject regularly on the Fire Department Posts, it's unbelievable. For those of you who think I'm in this for the massive comments, well, we'd accept all of those comments then, wouldn't we? You can clearly tell how many we reject, if you're one of the nasty people.
We already have a pretty good idea who John Robinson and Jonathan Taylor are when they try to stir things up on here, so I think we weed out most of those comments but the goal here is to try and make Salisbury News even more productive. If you have a good point while disagreeing with our Post, that's great. Bringing on L. Caruso, Two Sentz and even GA Harrison is even helping me to keep in check more often. I know I'm working on it and hopefully everyone sees yet another positive change in me. I'm at all these meetings and I deal with many of these people daily, so it's a bit more frustrating for me because I know the BS behind some of these people. However, to make things better I'm working on it.
All in all, sometimes less is better. I think a new policy on Salisbury News is going to be, no more personal attacks. If you do so, we're rejecting it. You're not going to hurt our business if you don't like that and claim you're never coming back. We eliminated the curse words and our volume of readership went up quite a bit. Now if we get rid of the personal attacks I think we'll get rid of the John Robinson's and Jonathan Taylor's as that's all their interested in doing anyway.
Thanks for coming by and we especially appreciate all of the comments, even though you're wearing us out. I really think Salisbury News has proven to be a great place to share our thoughts, your thoughts as well as blowing off a little steam.
This is what I've been writing and trying to tell you for a couple of weeks now. After reading the posts by L. Caruso, and the subsequent comments that were absent the scathing personal attacks the site has grown a reputation for, I was hoping you would notice the civility of the exchanges. You set the tone. If you attack, people submitting comments will do the same thing.
ReplyDeletecongrats on the posts. and most of them were really interesting discourse. a pretty cool day on the blog, as far as i'm concerned.
ReplyDeletei am one who appreciates the 'cleaning up' - i want to read the comments and consider the opinions, but the old swearing and other obscenities were in the way. i think sifting out the personal attacks would be a relief, as well, though i think that's a tall order because there's some gray area there.
i ask - please also dump the really racially charged remarks - i agree there needs to be racial discussion, but you know the ones - the posts that are really just nothing but a racial tirade MEANT to offend - i would personally rather not have to read those.
in any event, congrats and thanks for the public forum. and thanks for l. caruso - very interesting and well-worded posts that spark really intriguing, educated debate.
I would argue that attacking an anonymous comment is not a personal attack, but an impersonal attack. I think that you can distinguish the two...
ReplyDeletesay it aint so Joe
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion your blog did what it had to do, forced a "dirty" politician out of office.*perhaps it will be sucessful getting rid of the others. Your blog was not nice, but it was all "they understood"
ReplyDeleteYes, I am glad you are going to"clean up your act"
Great, but Joe,please do not put aside your tenacity, your righting the wrongs, your investigative skills, your dogged persistence, your arrogance, your dedication to the people and city of Salisbury. You have a role and it would be a pitiful exchange if we had only the DT to read, and the lies to believe. Cleaning up the blog is great, thanks.
I will like it much better wihout the foul mouthed idiots spreading lies about our great city and people. We can take care of business without allowing them to pull the discussion into the swamp where they reside. Thanks
Critizism and personal attacks are two different things. You Go Joe!
ReplyDeleteAs far as Taylor goes, half of the comments he gets are his own or his two friend. If he had more readers he should be posting there, but he knows he'd get way more exposure here on your blog.
I think the whale has a Titlist stuck in his blowhole.
Yes, Joe did call me yesterday and I told him I could not believe the things people say. You would not believe the comments I have rejected. From porn to death threats directed at Joe and his family. Whoever these people are all I can say is God help you. Joe said there would be days like this but, to threaten the lives of his family? What is wrong with people? In case you might be wondering, in the short time I've been helping out, I've printed out every single threat made and they have also been sent to the authorities. If you think you will remain anonymous to them, think again. They have subpoena power.
ReplyDeleteIf you have written a well thought out post and end it with foul language, racial epithets or off topic you have wasted your time. I'm not posting it.
I understand anonymous, I use it myself. I don't use it because I fear Joe, after reading the comments that come in, I fear you.
Maybe a rule of thumb is needed. If you won't say it to their face, don't say it here.
Thank you for your time.
