The Stand Skatepark in Pittsville

Hey Joe, thought you might want to post this on the blog to get the word out to the skateboarders in the area

I got a card in the mail today about a skatepark that may be opening in pittsville. There will be a meeting held at the Tabernacle on Morris Rd in Pittsville on Monday Feb. 2nd at 7:00 pm. They will be discussing their plans for the skatepark, building a street team to raise interest in the park, will show where the park will be (the surface has been re-topped)

This has largely come from the fact that the town has outlawed skateboarding on city streets. Hopefully they will get a big turnout, from both parents and kids alike, as they want the kids involved as well. And I am sure they will welcome skaters from all areas of the county as well as surrounding counties. LET THEM SKATE!!

Any questions should be e-mailed to A.J.sherkinlaw@gmail.com

  1. I just hope they don't mess it up like the one in Saint Michaels and the one in Easton where they built useless ramps too far apart that don't even go straight up and down. They charged the city something like $20,000 for $1000 worth of cement and $500 worth of wood. No one even uses the skate parks because they aren't the right kind of ramps. I mean it's literally only like 2 ramps and a grind rail in between in St. Mikes and Easton's isn't any better. Really sad actually because first Saint Michaels got duped then Easton got duped and now Pittsville will get duped.

In Cambridge there used to be a skate park behind that big industrial building near wawa and sunburst highway. It was built by skateboarders with their bare hands with scrap wood and some wood they bought from 84 lumber. everyone loved it and for years they kept it in repair until I think some of those kids went to college and plus the X Games kind of lost popularity after a few years. Not sure who owned the property but it was a really impressive skate park to be built by a bunch of high schoolers with no budget. It had 2 half pipes, all kinds of grind rails, a huge launch ramp, and multiple quarter pipes and some transfer ramps. Plus plenty of platforms and funboxes.

If Pittsville just consults with one or two GOOD skateboarders who knows how to use a halfpipe this might turn out alright. Otherwise it will just be another waste of money that no one will use after 3 months.

Oh and PS. In those years of kids skating no one got seriously hurt or died.

From the understanding I get from a few really good boarders who are also attend the tabernacle that YES there will be plenty of Boarder influence in this Skate Park

I don't think the Town of Pittsville has anything to do with the skate park. This is being put together by the Tabernacle. So all you skateboarders get out to that meeting and show your support!!

  5. The Tabernacle is an unusual sponsor for a skateboard facility.
Actually, its an unusual church. And not in a good way.

  6. The Tabernacle is an awesome church run by Pastor Rittenhouse and his family. It is contraversial in that they don't sink huge money in fancy buildings and statues. Their desire is to help people. The are very dedicated to reach out to the youth in this area. Give the place a try for yourself and then decide.
