Mayor McDermott Responds... Pocomoke Citizen News Blackout Continues...

On January 6th I emailed Mayor McDermott after reading a 'State of the City' report by him that was on the Daily Times website. In this article he lauded the progress that the city has made during the past year, and I asked him if we would submit one to the Tattler.

This morning I recieved this response...

Stephanie,
Thank you for the offer of posting articles, etc. on your site. I try and make news articles and all press releases available on the city website for those who are interested.

Sincerely,
Mike

UMMMH Ok...

So, I went to the City's website and on the front page is all of the happy horse sh*t about what a great town we have, and I scanned the page for a 'News' link, this is the what is posted on that link as of today:

PCity Website

then, I went to the good Mayor's Blog and found this:

So, Dear Citizens this is the latest news that 'Boss Hogg' wants you to know.

This is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!

Mr. Mayor, I am completely flabbergasted. You have got to be kidding!

You are the man who ran on the campaign promises of open government.

You are the man who talked about open communication being the key to success!

Yet, when the kitchen has got too hot here in Pocomoke you disengage, and start courting the Salisbury audience by addressing your public from a dying newspaper that doesn't cover enough Pocomoke News to warrant a subscription .

You are the Mayor of Pocomoke. If you want to be State Delegate, that is fine, but you are alienating all of those who supported you in successfully obtaining public office in the first place.

In the 'Tell it to the Mayor' section made for you; there remain several unanswered questions from people who are truly interested.

The Tattler gave you the opportunity to engage in real debate that could be read by your supporters and detractors alike. It is a shame that you choose not to participate any longer and that you would think that these multiple month old postings will sufice for news.

Give us a break!

I'm not stupid and neither are the citizens of the town over which you have been elected to be an ambassador.

If the people of Pocomoke City were un-interested then I don't think that we would have over 2000 page views per day!

Just because people don't come to the meetings of the Mayor and Council does not mean they are not interested; it means that they are busy, and is exactly why we have pushed to try and have them webcast.

As for your radio show, only people in certain sectors of the population are able to listen to the radio at 10:00 AM on Wednesday mornings.

And just like newspapers, commercial radio is and has lost it's grip in the marketplace for effective communication. Both are going the way of the dinosaurs and are being replaced by the internet, as sattelite radio is what folks listen to in their cars and the web is second behind TV where people get their news and information.

Once again the line is drawn between the 'Elect Few' and the 'Commoners'.

Thanks for nothing!
