Influential Means...........
"I had a meeting at the school to appeal the suspension and they didn't budge, oh well then I got home and the MAYOR called me.. She promised to take care of this. She may. so lets see. She did all the talking."
To those nay sayers who said this wasn't the Mayor's place to intervene in such matters, I believe even the Mayor now begs to differ with you. My hat is tipped to Mayor Tilghman for this clear signal of growth on her behalf.
This is a complicated situation for all involved and truthfully, it's going to take a neutral party with some influence to make things right. I believe the Mayor can fill that position and now I'm pleased we made this public to start with as well as giving her accolades for changing her mind and doing what is right.
Now some might say that I'm kissing the Mayor's butt because we have a lawsuit coming forward in a week or so. That's just not the case here. I would hope by now everyone recognizes that I not only welcome this lawsuit, I firmly believe we need to bury the hatchet and move on with our lives. In the mean time, give credit where credit is due. How long this lasts, no one knows but I like what I see.
The Mayor has NO business interfering in school board business. She doesn't even have any real business interfering in city business, but that's another whole story. Tell her to stay within her scope of what she knows....whatever THAT would be.
ReplyDeleteawww Joe.. that was soo sweet..
ReplyDeleteI really believe in my heart the Mayor will. She was very sweet and very understanding. It really came from her heart...I am very happy she called and I am very happy that you have been so nice and caring as well. Im not real clear on what the Mayor can do, so if anyone can shed some light on this that would be great!!
So with all this said. Everyone please think on the positive side of this ok. I have a 12 yr old depending on her help. This has been a rough 4 months and we just want something positive to happen. we are tired and very saddened by the way alot of people that were asked to help just pushed us away. And now we know what our system is made of. It is also very disturbing to know that we as parents drill in our kids head on how to treat others and how to behave and so on, but we have adults acting the same way..ugh... it no wonder the kids around here act the way they do.. its not all blame on the people. but when you have a parent that calls for help..HELP THEM!!! dont push them off on someone else. heck i still have gotten calls back... well its ok. now the MAYOR is on it...
Concerned Mom, Barrie Tilghman was sweet, kind and sounded like she was going to help Joe Albero when he took his complaints about the zoo to her too. Look what happened there. Don't trust that woman any farther than you can throw her.
ReplyDeleteOk, veryconcernedmom, let me get this straight. Your 12 year old is depending on BPT to get the BOE to restore Joe's site to classroom computers? Your 12 year old can study this site after school as long as you allow it correct? Just like the teachers, administrators and employees can view the site after working hours. I don't care what they do if they (and you) are paying for internet service at home. But if my tax dollars are paying for the internet service, I'd appreciate it if they'd keep things educational. I hardly think that a picture of the mayor with a PHOTOSHOPPED pentagram on her chest is educational.
ReplyDeleteSharon,
ReplyDeleteThis has NOTHING to do with Internet access.
The mayor would have gotten a lot more respect if she had just listened to the will of the people instead of following her own agenda over the last ten years.
ReplyDeleteShe has thrown us into a ditch and is jumping ship leaving us to crawl out of the ditch ourselves. Which might be best thing.
I apologize. Your post said you returned from a meeting with the BOE over the suspension. I assumed it was the internet suspension.
ReplyDeleteI see now that it was a quote. Sometimes the posts like that are difficult to follow, especially since you make no mention who the quote is from.
Even though I have NO idea what this is about, root cause of the issue, Barrie will not be helpful to anyone except Barrie. I know from which I speak. I once appealed to her for help in an area which she DOES supposedly have some influence or power, and was assured, in her sweet way, she' d get right on it and get back to me. Three years later I'm still waiting to hear how she did, and meanwhile the original issue escalated to an unmanageable state.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your help, Barrie. You're a real hero in my book.
Usually students who break rules are warned by the teacher a million times, warned by the office a hundred times when they get referrals there, have their parent in for lots of conferences, miss class to talk with the guidance counselor many times, are given either an after school detention (middle or high school) or loss of some recesses (elementary), given dozens of chances to make up the detentions when they refuse to stay, given days or parts of days in the in school suspension room, etc. If there was a suspension, I would be totally amazed if there had not a history of "lesser disciplinary consequences" being imposed. The public school system is so worried about attendance and suspension figures as part of No Child Left Behind that they tolerate almost everything. Unless it is the mayor's child being suspended, the mayor has nothing to do with this.
ReplyDeleteI believe it is the Mayor and entire City of Salisbury's business and right to interfere when the BOE is expelling youth (that are city residents) left and right - most recently an 11 year old. That means that young children are being left with nothing to do during the day if the parent's can not find/afford day care for the rest of the school year. It can result in increased criminal activity. So yes some children pose a threat to the safety of the school setting and should be removed from the general education setting - but now 11 year olds are being sent home for the entire year - what message is this sending? No child left behind - I would disagree - it's beginning to be an entire City left behind.
ReplyDeleteThe Mayor has just proven that she is the bigger professional here. You suck Joe. If I was the Mayor I wouldn't give you the time of day.
ReplyDeleteJoe:
ReplyDeleteWhat are you doing - Barrie should not be sticking her nose into a B of E matter that does not affect the City specifically. Please help the cause by doing what the Board itself can't do -- tell her to butt out!
Dont think for one minute she wont try to spin it, always an Agenda.
ReplyDeleteIf the Board expelled an 11 year-old, that kid probably either had a loaded gun, tried to burn down an occupied building, tried to kill someone or something equally as serious. Even with an in school suspension, the kid would be on a school bus going to and from school and in the school all day. Sadly, there are some kids who should not be allowed free access to other people's children. When a school system knows that a given student is a serious danger to others, they make every effort to isolate and to control the offender. If that cannot be done effectively, they cannot have the offender on school grounds. There are some kids who will not obey teachers, administrators, or even the deputies.
ReplyDeleteOk I'm confused as to what this sotry is about. Is this story linked from another, if so I can't seem to find it.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! alot of people have no idea what is going on yet so many rude opinions. No one knows weather or not the mayor will or will not help. everyone is a critic.. instead we have children that are tangled into weird system, so instead of down grading everyone why cant we all pull together and help..DUH!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd for those who have missed prior blogs Joe has posted. this has NOTHING to do with per say a suspension.. and when your child is being bullied by 6 or more kids and dont know what to do and your school dont help nor the BOE.(not B of E) And it is the Mayor's bussiness. This is her city. and everything in it. So in other words you have a home. you only take care of the outside and not the inside?? makes no since to me.
This has nothing to do with internet, or displine issues. I have to trust her. I trusted the BOE didnt I. They are way worse to trust. It is so easy for people to cast a stone when the issue is not happening to you.. When will people learn to grow up and deal and help?? probley never. but thought iwould throw a good idea at all of you. Remember our kids learn what we show them...
Thank you veryconcernedmom, I have read all the post on here about this matter. Yours is right on, there are far to manythat live in our city and out of the city that post on here and do not have a clue. The Mayor does have the right to come to your help with the BOE and anyone that thinks the Mayor shouldnt must not care how the city is run or how our children are educated. Most of the problems with the children today is the lack of control on their children. Good luck to you.
ReplyDeleteLonger 2:05 commentator and other FOB's --
ReplyDeleteThe mayor's position and authority is specified in the City Charter, which has nothing about the school system. That system is regulated by state and county provisions, which do not give Barrie any power or role whatsoever in her position as mayor of Salisbury.
And this is not "her city" so please cut that nonsense.
I'ts too bad that the BOE can't tell her to go away and Pollitt lacks the stones for that job.
Actually, veryconcernedmom, it is the WICOMICO Board of Education, not the Salisbury BOE, so the Mayor should have never been tagged to look into this...she has 0 jurisdiction. Are SPD officers in schools? No. It's Wicomico Sheriffs Deputies. Making the connection yet? Find someone who is authorized to deal with these matters, or fight YOUR own battle.
ReplyDeleteIt is a matter of public record, stated by one of the mayors favored butt kissers, Lynn Cathcart, she said...the schools are the county's problem, not ours"
ReplyDeleteTo 2:05..
ReplyDeleteIt does not matter to me what the charter says. If someone is willing to help and get the schools and the BOE to do their job and protect our children from the out of control children then so be it.
And further more this has been going on here on this blog since Monday. If any of you cared so much to make mean statements to others then why dont you put all that energy towards helping. You know this bullying could happen to anyone. your kid, your grandchild, your familys kid.. ANYONE!!!
Everyone is reading the blogs joe is posting but is nyone really reading them and understanding it??
The school didnt like it when i started prying and figured out they didnt follow up on the bullying. and the BOE same thing. They didnt follow no rules,no paperwork was done then my son ends up on a contract to stay in school because he was trying to protect himself. the teachers wouldnt listen, no one. so what else is a child to do?? would any of you allow a bunch of jerks to beat up on you??nooooooo then why is it any diff for a child.
So if the mayor wants to help then so be it. Even if she has made mistakes. hey we all are human. I dont know what she has done. and i dont care at this point. All i know is that I have a child that is depending on me to keep him safe. And thats what I am going to do. Dont worry the whole story will be posted oon here when its all done. then I think u non belivers will see that your blindness to all this was wrong.
ok..ok 3:52..
ReplyDeleteI was correcting you. it is not B of E. And I know it is wicomico county Board Of Education. So If we want to be percise then it is wcboe... Thats what is on all emails news media etc...
And As far as who's job it is to help when the school's and the wcboe dont do their job is actually everybody's.. think about it. If we all do this (it isnt my job) then nothing will ever get done. That's why our school system bites around here. no one pulls together. sad~sad~sad...self~self~self...
I shared before that at benette middle several hoodlems were given my boy trouble one day , He told me of this and I went right to the boys and told each of them up close-up and personal-like that I would beat their back sides untill they couldnt sit down any more ( and not exactly that polite) if they were to be found to be picking ,not just on my boy, but anyone ever again. These wanna be gang bangers do not under stand anything but a greater force. Needless to say there was never any more trouble , at least that I was able to find, from any of those boys.
ReplyDeleteThey understood that I was crazier then them or anyone they knew. And what I found is alot of children have no athoritive deterent in their lives. Now if it is truly as bad as you say why not have your husband or man-friend address these kids face to face ?
And if there is none around then I may be abled to be persuaded to have a little talk myself. I found that all it takes is a little game in your confronting of these bullys. Why are you even waisting your time with the school ? Now you have the Mayor involved ? Seems to me you are just seeking attention and really dont want the trouble to go away . These are kids. Just man up ,so to speak. This is a mans place to protect our family.
But for Gods sake dont make it worse on your child by allowing some kind of political help where it is most assuredly a need for equal or greater force to be applied. and dont tell your child that you are paying the bullies a visit , cause then you might be suprized at how easy your own child becomes the bully. Just descretly have a heart to heart with the trouble makers. IT WILL WORK. Proof positive.
11:31 If you were the mayor your butt would be out of here in a 100 days also. Shove it where the sun don't shine, IDIOT!
ReplyDeleteveryconcernedmom,
ReplyDeletejust because you've asked her for help doesn't mean that you'll receive any. and, just because you're so intent on her becoming your hero does not mean that she has any jurisdiction over the activities or actions of the boe.
and speaking of not understanding, you clearly don't.
your child deserves to be safe, and you have an obligation as parent to keep him safe, but going to barrie tilghman won't cause that to happen. i hope you have a plan b.
she farmed out her own daughter so she didn't have to deal with child raising. do you really think she'd really care about another's child? Sad
ReplyDeleteJust a bunch of winers. My son is in a gang, second in command at Bennet. Gangs protect their members and sort of run the school. The teachers walk softly and the principals never can figure out what is going on anyway. A smart student joins a gang for his or her protection.I was raised in New York and I teach my boy how to survive. You have to be tough or else others walk all over you.My boy don't take no crap from blacks or spaniards. The teachers act scared and that one policeman can't control. The gang members do.It is the way it is and has been that way in NY for years.
ReplyDeleteTo 6:47
ReplyDeleteI am glad your approch worked. for you are lucky that they didnt beat your child up worse or do damage to ur property.
I am not stupid. By doing that is setting me up to get into alot of trouble... I am not seeking attention. the Mayor fell in my lap. and I do have a plan B. As far as my husband. well I would like to have him home with us too and NOT in jail. How much u want to bet ur kid got picked on cause mommy went to school. Yea I would love to confront them. But that is not the right way. And now we have 5 other kids in the same school going thru the same thing as mine. So knowing this I am sopposed to turn my head (like everyone else) or try to help my son and make sure maybe more kids are helped as well. I am not all about self..self..self..
Why dont you read up on bullying. You will see that these kids will stop at nothing. And when you say bullied. how?? well if you read up. my son has had it bad. And so do alot of others, new laws were put into affect and not being followed. and I am trying to make sure that it is for now on.. this may save a kids life. So maybe all should not be so quick to judge. What worked for you may not work for someone else. And also good lord how long ago was it?? You cant get within 5ft of these kids at school now. Now ont et me wrong hey I would love t confront these kids but it isnt safe to do that neither. think abou it..read between the lines..
Once your kid is in a gang he then is asked to do things to prove loyalty like rob some elderly people, or kick the crap out of some innocent victim. Some eventually a murder.
ReplyDeleteAs a cub scout over 40 years ago we went on a trip to Baltimore Harbor and toured a submarine. Being narrow it was single file and a church street kid behind be kept pushing me from the back trying to intimedate me. The scout leaders couldn't see him due to the cramped space.
I finally had enough and just did a fast 180 and cold cocked him right square in the face. That happened to me one more time with another church street kid about a year later at the Salvation Army.
At that time they let us put on the big gloves and box. I cleaned his clock and I wonder if he knew where he was, his eye's were glazed. Needless to say that was the last time anyone boxed there to my knowledge, they took away the gloves. I didn't have anymore problems after that though.
It is a different age in time now though, instead of a one on one fist fight, it's a drive by or just a cluster shooting.

ReplyDeleteumm this is not NY...
And your kid isnt making school a safer place he is making it harder for other kids. I would not be to proud of a parent knowing my child was a hardbutt and knowing he may end up in prison. I want my kids to go to school be safe and learn so they can amount to something, not nothing. If this is what your child is doing then why dont you just take him out and let him get his GED so the kids that want to be educated can do so without fearing for their lives. You see my child is in middle school, there is a big diff.
Also to those who feel that I am saying that the mayor is my hero. oh lord get a grip will ya. All I am saying is if she wants to help then great. If she doesnt then so be it. I do have a back up plan. I never wait for someone else to do something. And it is a shame that we have so many ingorant people right here in Salisbury that feel this is not an issue. I sure dont want someone on here blogging about their child being bullied and expect for others to feel for you when I tried to warn you and all you do is turn your head and mind too it. What is more sad is that people dont feel the need for our kids to be safe in school. talking about gangs and beating others up. Good lord what is wrong with everyone. what happened to everyone pulling together and helping the kids?? oh im sorry that was the waltons right??? how stupid of me to think that people would want to help the kids who want to learn.

ReplyDeleteIf you were truley concerned about your child you would find the way to "get" close to these hoodlems. Your own fears are showing through.
They are kids. And you a adult. When they realize that you can get to them they will chill. Again dont let your child know of your involvement . Let the gangsters know that even if they tell the consiquencess will be greater.
You may find that the so called gangsters will warn others not to mess with your child because they have a "crazy" mother that will get them.
And no , my sons mother didnt cause my sons trouble. Kids dont need a reason to be bullies. They need a reason "not to be" .
I promote the ability to finding ones own way to cope with inter action where it comes to interacting with others. Hence the reason for my sons Black belt in martial arts. Which I feel may have been the cause for the group of childrens reason for the conflict in the first place.
When ever a group of people are forced to be with in the same confined area , there is a imposed time of finding a common ground of which one can live.
Stand your ground is much more respected than becoming " one of the sheep". It may take a butt kicking or a friendly education that the one being tested isnt playing their game, either way if it has been a continuous on going problem, something must be done.
If you are not able to handle the situation your self , with out your child being aware of your involvement , I dont think getting the athorities involved is going to have anything but a negitive affect. And may get your child a beat down.
These bullies think they are untouchable. Let them know they are not. Children rarely care about the consiquences of what they do. You have to impose a impact upon them that may be the very thing that saves them from a life of crime.
It seems to me that God has allowed you the opertunity to help influence these children in a direction that could and would influence their lives . Dont pass your oppertunity off on another. As I have stated before , I am not letting some group of kids control the way my life is to be lived. I control the way their lives are going to live. If you are not willing to confront these children then have you tried meeting eith their parents? There are so many options available to you . But you cannot let your child know that you have intervened. It will cause more of a effect upon them than you may be aware of.
Another way to end this trouble may be to post their names as "bullies" here for the public. Society may "fix" the trouble you are feeling. I, for one, would help deter their wrongful acts. But dont be a snitch. This will only cause the situration to compound.
I feel for your trouble and wish you the wisdom to make the right decision in handling you childs troubles. And may God give you the strenth in your raising of your child.
Names of the problem makers , thats what is needed here. And which school ?

ReplyDeleteThe School wont allow you within 10 ft of these kids. I did try to wait around to talk to these kids. I am the type of mother that will do that. And I have no fear with that I am not scared of any of them, But my son is not the only one being bullied. their are more. So I am not only trying to help my son but other kids as well and by bringing in people who are "higher up" make it known and get these kids removed. You see my son is being sent to choices program for defending himself. He fought back so my son tried to tell teachers and other admin. but no one listened to him. I kept throwing heat and going there everyday bugging the crap and being a real pain in the Butt. But that just made things worse they were finding any reason they could to suspend my son to cover their butts and figured MOM would shut up if they just got rid of my kid,
I want the BOE and the school to own up to them not doing what law says. Our kids are in their hands for 7hrs a day. If my son was getting beat up at home the school would do something. Why cant they do something when it is happening while my son is in their care. So you see its not just about the bullies, It has to do with the BOE and School too.. I would love to talk to the parents of these kids but i bet their no better, plus my son dont know last names and school wont tell me so that knocks that out of the water too.
I have exausted all my ways to handle this. This was the last way. I have no choice but to bring whoever in now. Thanks for your advice.. and some of it helped...
But try to understand I am NOT a mousey parent. I make sure I am heard and I do have alot of fire behind me.. too much sometimes..haha
