Last week, Hebron heard its planning 'expert' make a presentation where he explained how the town could expand its boundaries for future annexations. The expansion would include all the land from Porter Mill Road to Railroad Road to Rt 50; along Rt 50 going toward Salisbury to include the NORTH side back to the historic Springhill Church all the way to the Valero Gas Station.
This is in addition to Hebron's already-existing annexation and plans for its mega-development, Waller Landing. The hearing on Waller was months ago, but no official vote yet--County has not given a waiver so Five Year Rule requires no voting to rezone until 2010. Will Commissioners vote soon anyway?
Three Hebron Commissioners up for re-election this Spring—sounds like time for 'change' in Hebron, too?
This is just amazing to me? Is this what the people really want?
ReplyDeleteHere's my opinion, those developments mean one thing and one thing only, more people, more crime, higher taxes, and poorer local governmnts.
It's clear that the vision for what Hebron is to be does not in any way match what the citizens of Hebron see for their town. He is leading the Hebron officials down a wrong path--and they are not smart enough to know it.
ReplyDeleteThey can't even sell the homes that are going up now. What are they thinking?
ReplyDeleteMaryland's "Planning Department" and local activists like environment trust and the Bay Foundation are trying to stop development in the more distant areas and push all future growth into areas near the existing towns -- they should be in favor of this from the get-go!
ReplyDeleteJoe:
ReplyDeleteWhen did Barrie Tilghman move to Hebron?
I want the eastern shore to remain beautiful and keep its heritage, but if there is no building going on here alot of legal people will be out of jobs and companies. There is nothing else here to make a decent living from for alot of people. We cant all work at chicken plants or little chain stores and make a living. Mature planned development will work just fine in harmony with the shore. Dont build these development and give all the jobs to illegal immigrants, that will piss me off. If there is no building going on on the shore the shore is dead. All the half way decent paying manufacturing jobs are gone, the mayor took care of that. We need to bring some of those manufacturing jobs back to the shore as well. This whole mess is about JOBS,JOBS,JOBS & HOUSING VALUES.
ReplyDeleteI was born and raised in Hebron but have since moved away. It makes me ill when I ride thru the town. It use to be a fun place to live, everyone knew everyone, people pulled together in hard times whether it was a sickness or tragedy. There use to be a field that was used for farming across from our house, now there's a huge housing development. My family saw what was coming,so we sold the house and left Hebron. As far as regrets, I have none!!!
ReplyDeleteJoe awhile back a proffessional realtor told me that Delmar had approved annexation out of the cities core in all four directions , and I mean way out from the core. I do believe this was true but could you do a post about it, I bet alot of people dont even know it and they live in the newly annexed sections. I think it was supposed to be phased in over a couple of years. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteThose funny looking developers from Delaware are at every town meeting, with the officials bowing and scraping for them -- it's very surreal.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the "mainstream media" (the ones who are not being furloughed) on this major news?
ReplyDeleteHey:
ReplyDeleteSalisbury should be the only place in Wicomico County to reap the "growth pays for growth" bonanza -- ain't that right, Bubba?
PS -- Isn't Comegys the one who said "build it, they will come" or was it "schools are the County's problem" at that secret meeting at the Fountains a few years ago with his pal Mikey Dunn?
And this is really funny: President of Town Commissioners keeps saying "outsiders" are ones opposed to all the development--guess what, the true "outsiders" are those strange-looking dudes from Wilmington, who will flip this property as soon as they get the zoning and be gone from Hebron.
ReplyDeleteHebron couldn't get it right from the get-go, and they still don't know what's going on. How much is Hebron paying in attorneys fees and to the consultant who is making a bundle--Hebron taxpayers better get smart very quickly.
Hebron Commissioners just paid $175,000 for a RENTAL HOME on Bradley Street--seller only bought it in 2007 for $150,000 and it's assessment in no way justifies the price Hebron paid for it. What's up????????? Wake up, Hebron taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteWe need a Hebron resident to run against Hooper and the others. Step up!

ReplyDeleteIf that Coffin land just outside of town is worth $13,000 per acre, then that house was a real bargain - NOT!
Hebron now has two attorneys trying to get more development thru. One is from here and the other from across the Bay. Why not just get Wilber?
ReplyDelete10:55:
ReplyDeleteI believe that Hebron's "planning consultant" is the one who did the zoning in Wicomico County and was passed over in the current countywide rezoning effort.
Now he's touting what he's "done" for Hebron -

Im glad those people who bought the old I.G.A. brought back the wonder roast chicken, if you havent had one get one. It is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed that people miss the real point in annexation. It's called taxation. If Hebron has a local property tax or fee, the simple annexation of your property into their town lets them send you a bill to help fund their budget. Doesn't matter that you get nothing for it though the usual argument is police protection.
ReplyDeleteIf the annexation also include new development, that's even more new taxpayers.
Here we grow again - NOT!
ReplyDeleteAll the cities in the country are doing it and will continue to do it. If they dont their broke. Im sure a good percentage of the money is wasted on needless projects, at least now "Cyber Joe" wont let them do it in the dark. There in the light of day now and way more accountable than they have been in the past. Its all because of this blogg.
ReplyDeleteThank You Doug. However, it's not because of Joe. It's because our communities have come together and the Citizens are bringing me the information to spread out to all of you. All of YOU deserve credit for sharing all of this information, something the Daily Times refuses to do. Wait till you see the 1:11 Post and you'll see exactly what I mean.
ReplyDeletePete Johnston, a developer's best friend--they even ask for him by name!
ReplyDeleteGet smart, Hebron.
I want to know why the head of Hebron Planning and the head of the Commissioners are lock-step with the developers. It gives me the chills when I see those two developers come into town--something smells.
ReplyDelete2:45-
ReplyDeleteDoesn't one of those two from Wilmington (the younger, I think) have a day job as a funeral director?
Yep, think the one who at least looks as though he washes his hair has some background in the funeral business--uses same kinda skills he uses in Hebron. He's putting a pretty face on things but, alas, in the end, Hebron will be run into the ground.
ReplyDeleteUh, think I saw something like this on the "Sopranos": day job as funeral director, spending millions on a quick flip of real estate, small town none the wiser.
ReplyDeleteThat older Wilmingtonian looks about ready for a funeral, too.
ReplyDeleteFrom Wilmington, with love:

Place the blame where it lies-locals selling out their neighbors."Outsiders" cannot devlop land they do not own.
