Do YOU Miss This Guy?
'Here's my strategy on the Cold War:
We win, they lose.'- Ronald Reagan
'The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'-Ronald Reagan
'The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.' - Ronald Reagan
'Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong.'- Ronald Reagan
'I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.' - Ronald Reagan
'The taxpayer: That's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination.' - Ronald Reagan
'Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.' - Ronald Reagan

'If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.'- Ronald Reagan
Nope. Great inspirer/cheerleader, but started America down its incredibly divisive and angry road, giving credibility to The Moral Majority (it was neither) and Jerry Falwell, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't recovered since.
Wow, yep, miss him
ReplyDeleteAt no time in our history has a true conservative like Reagan been needed to lead this country. The american people in their great wisdom has just put the politcal party that is cause of the most of our current problems in charge. God help us.
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:50am, funny you should say "Great inspirer/cheerleader" isn't that what Obama does to people
ReplyDeleteYou know, I just don't remember the crowd at the Inaguration booing Jimmy Carter when...
ReplyDeleteThe just sworn in President Reagan announced...
The American hostages have just left Iranian airspace.
All I remember is how happy the people were as a national.
Jimmy Carter while not known as being a very good President (he made more blunders than Bush) has gone on to become probably the BEST Ex-President the United States has even known.
HE's a quote from Sam Donaldson referring to Reagan.
ReplyDelete"Ronald Reagan is the kind of person that would sign into law a bill to cut or take away Social Security from your folks or Grand Folks, then walk outside and give someone in need the shirt off his back, literally and never see the contradiction of the two acts."
Don't miss him a bit.
I love this quote by the Gipper:
ReplyDelete"If you want to make sure crime doesn't pay, let the government run it."
--California, 1967
Happy Trails, Mr. President.
ReplyDeleteMiss him? Not really.
ReplyDelete"Ronald Reagan is the kind of person that would sign into law a bill to cut or take away Social Security from your folks or Grand Folks, then walk outside and give someone in need the shirt off his back, literally and never see the contradiction of the two acts."
ReplyDelete9;29- there is no contradiction. the shirt off his back is a gift and given freely to help someone in need out of compassion and love for his fellow man. Social Security is a tax, forcibly taken and begrudgingly given. Maybe if every one gave freely and didn't have to be strong armed, we'd live in a better place. That's what that example of Reagan says to me.
'If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.'- Ronald Reagan Sooo True, this is where we are now. Can't say "One nation under god" when saying the Pledge and where are we now? One nation going under.
ReplyDeleteEntrepreneurs and their small enterprises are responsible for almost all the economic growth in the United States.
ReplyDeleteRonald Reagan
I think he had something here.
Miss him alot, the last real man to be president.
ReplyDeleteYou aint goona do it Joe! You aint gonna make me cry brother! You aint...aint...sob! Why'd you have to go and make me cry Joe,WHY?
ReplyDeleteHe wernt to bad a guy for being a politician was he ?
9:03 a.m., yes, Obama is that, too. I meant it as a compliment to Reagan.
ReplyDeleteYes I do miss him. Good response Mr. Fykes!
ReplyDelete“Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but the democrats believe every day is April 15.”
Ronald Reagan
“One way to make sure crime doesn't pay would be to let the government run it.”
Ronald Reagan
“We don't have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven't taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much”
Ronald Reagan
Bryan Fykes at 11:17, beautifully written my friend. I could not have said it better myself.
ReplyDeleteI am not really old enough to remember the things Reagan did but even my intellectually honest liberal friends have nothing but great things to say about him. He must have really been something because he walloped Carter by winning 44 states in 1980, then he dropped a nuke on Mondale and won every state except Mondale's home of Minnesota. President Reagan must have really been on to something for victories like that. Even with an unpopular Bush, an unpopular war and a weak economy Obama did not win by a landslide.
I keep hearing Hannity and other talk show host say we need another Reagan but I doubt anyone will be able to live up to their expectations. Who knows, I only know I want a president, be it Obama or Palin, that will put this country on a track to years of economic prosperity.
I just cannot get past all the air traffic controllers he canned durig their strike back over 20 yrs ago.....nevertheless he was a memorable President.
ReplyDeleteMassive national debt, failure to respond to 180+ Marines being killed in Lebanon, Iran/Contra. Nope, I don't miss him as a president. He seems like he was a decent man, lousy president. A lot like GWB.
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:55 The recession was nearly a year old before President Ronald Reagan finally admitted on October 18, 1981. A combination of deficit spending and the lowering of interest rates slowly led to economic recovery. From a high of 10.8% in December 1982, unemployment gradually improved until it fell to 7.2% on Election Day in 1984. Nearly two million people left the unemployment rolls. Inflation fell from 10.3% in 1981 to 3.2% in 1983. Corporate earnings rose by 29% in the July-September quarter of 1983, compared with the same period in 1982. Some of the most dramatic improvements came in industries hardest hit by the recession, such as paper and forest products, rubber, airlines, and the auto industry.
ReplyDeleteBy November 1984, voter anger at the recession evaporated and Reagan's re-election was not in doubt. Reagan was subsequently re-elected by a landslide electoral and popular vote margin in the 1984 presidential election. Before you comment please get your history correct.
If Obama is the answer.... it must have been a very stupid question!
ReplyDeleteGlen in OC
Great president? No But he had the experience to know how to look good in front of a camera and deliver a line. It is a TV world and he knew how use it.
ReplyDelete1:25,
ReplyDelete"Before you comment please get your history correct."
Explain where I was wrong--massive national debt, 180+ Marines killed in Lebanon, and Iran/Contra. All historical facts, none of which you addressed in your response.
Bryan Fykes - Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSam Donaldson and the rest of the socialists believe that charity is bad and evil. Government cannot control charitable giving, therefore if is evil. Only by taking from the producers and giving to the non-producers can a fairness be generated. Only an armed government can effectively take by force what a citizen has worked their but off for. If they can take enough, charitable giving will be eliminated.
This is really how they see it and is a glimpse of the future under our new single party rule.
We voted for it.
Note the anti-Reagan comments.
ReplyDeleteTry posting an opposing viewpoint on some other blogs around here.
As for being a great President, why don't you ask the citizens of the DDR? You can't, it no longer exists along with the rest of the Soviet satellite states, the Berlin Wall, or the Iron Curtain.
As an aside, I used the term "Iron Curtain" to some hapless twentysomething the other day and he looked at me like I just got out of the flying saucer.
Have we already forgetten the history of Communism, the most monstrous system ever devised?
he was the greatest in my opinion. Do i miss him? absolutely! we need someone like him to get us out of this mess! Obama is not the answer. by the time he gets out of office we will be so far in debt that we will not in my lifetime see the light, but dont worry at least he will make us all rich and he will take care of us. The antiChrist has risen to power.
ReplyDeleteI miss Ronald Reagan. President Reagan was a GREAT Leader, a GREAT President, and a GREAT American. He knew that what made America great was its people, its traditions & its past history of great deeds, because he knew that he tried to inspire the American people by promoting the virtues of Freedom, Patriotism, Honor, and Integrity. He also knew that the cornerstone of this country was LIBERTY. With that in mind he sought to instill in the minds of its citizens the belief that freedom was a God given right, but that Freedom must be fought for, defended and preserved. In the end his policies that promoted economic freedom, ( less taxes, less government interference,) produced the longest period of sustained economic growth in the history of this nation. But even more importantly, his use of the Bully Pulpit to promote the ideals of freedom to the citizens of the US and the world, helped lead a cause which resulted in the demise of one of the most totalitarian systems the world has ever known, and all without firing a shot. Ronald Reagan was a GREAT President because he knew how to inspire people to see beyond their own self interest and inspire them to work and strive to achieve not just for themselves but for their families, their neighbors and their country. I was privileged enough to serve under President Reagan as a Marine from 1980 until 1987. His list of accomplishments is long, his setbacks were few, and in the end, Ronald Reagan led a rebirth of this Country economically, militarily and probably most important psychologically. President Reagan taught us that we did not have to apologize to the world for being AMERICANS. As a result Americans today as well as generations to come will still be reeping the benefits of Freedom & prosperity that were sown during his Presidency. God Bless Ronald Reagan. We could sure use a leader like him in the Oval office TODAY. Patrick Hogan North Greenbush, NY
ReplyDeleteI mean this in no way disrespectful, but if there was a way to take his dna and create another Ron Reagan I would give my tax dollars for that he was a great man and President. We need someone like him now I am making more now but have less to spend. I felt secure in an airplane and in my own country. God bless him(can I still say that outload?)
