A Bomb Threat was just called in at the WalMart in Easton. It turns out, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office just sent TWO Dogs to Easton because ALL other agencies have their Dogs in Washington, D.C. for the Presidential Inauguration. Hopefully I'll have nothing further to report.
Joe, not sure if you want to post this or not. I happen to work within one of the dispatch centers on the shore (you can narrow it down). But evidently this was a pretty credible threat, and when assistance from dogs was called for, they were refused by the MSP and two other agencies on the western shore. They were even told "If it gets really serious, let us know, we'll try to work something out." How's that for helping each other out?
ReplyDeleteTypical of the Western Shore... we'll take your tax dollars but we aren't going to help you out...
ReplyDeleteI think the State Police should be dissolved. The City/Town forces cover themselves and County covers itself. I feel that the State should provide funding to the Counties to provide protection to their entire counties with sub-funding to local municipalities.
ReplyDeleteO'Malley closed the MSP barracks in Annapolis as not needed. There really are too many cops in the highways as we've witnessed with the Vienna bridge incident.
Incidentally, the MSP *still* speeds on Route 50 when not chasing anyone. I drive it 5 days a week from OC to Cambridge. Losing one's life to collect a traffic fine is not worth it.
anonymous 8:07,
ReplyDeleteWhile I am supposed to respect most comments on here as let's say, your opinion, I get the feeling you're simply a MSP hater. Perhaps a former spouce or cop that was terminated by the MSP?
Nevertheless, your hatred towards them is very unusual. I probably shouldn't have allowed your comment but you do have the right to your opinion. I just don't see where your suggestion holds any credibility. If you can't beat them, join them.
Anon 8:07 must have been busted by the MSP and now he hates them. LOSER!!
ReplyDeleteIts a mutual aid issue. Keep in mind that you HAVE to have mutual aid to be able to help out another agency. I know for a fact that its usually only 1 county over that will have mutual aid. With Worcester County they only have mutual aid with Maryland State Police. Ocean City only has Worc Co and MSP. That may be why they couldnt help out. Just food for thought. Hope all turns out good for the threat.
ReplyDeleteYeah baby, Let them dogs earn their pay .
ReplyDeleteNice to see the county has two bomb dogs. What kind of usage do they get in year. I think it is great. As for the MSP hater. I dont get it maybe they are one of those that feels state and federal goverment have place. If the county got a 1/3 of the funding it would cover the two troopers that are out there covering calls. They are of great value whenit come to traffic enforcement, due to the budget they cant work O.T. when they have court. It does leave them very short when it comes to man power. I know they do work great with all the agencies in the county. They are like all others some are great and some suck. It is like any other profession. So give it a rest cop haters. As for the spouse thing I dont know any troopers fired lately. Wicomico has had a few. They did themselves in. Keep in mind more clergy are arrested anually then cops. That came from a Paul Harvey commentary. So all in all they cant be all that bad. Keep up the good post Joe. There is enough crime to go around we need all the cops we can get around here.
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:28 A large percentage of the eastern shore actually gets tax breaks simply based on the location. Just like many areas over here are not subjected to Emmissions testing for vehicles.
ReplyDeleteIf the K9 units are at the inauguration event from here wouldn't you find a second to think that the majority of K9's on the western shore are also in DC? Would you also stop to think that there are more murders committed in a month on the western shore than are committed in a year on the eastern shore (thanks to Baltimore)? So maybe, just maybe, without major evidence warranting the transport of K9 units over here those units should stay local to where they will be needed? Do you think the "dispatcher" who claims from her/his understanding it was "pretty credible" may be stirring the pot a little? Or possibly someone who doesn't have a dang clue, he/she was just happy to get a call outside of the "norm", and is reading more into it?
Didn't the original post say "all other agencies have their dogs in Washington, D.C." so again maybe someone is just bored and looking for something to do! Always trying to bash for something you don't have a clue about!!
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think any other eastern shore agency has a bomb dog. Wicomico is the only one. Right?
ReplyDeleteSo there wouldn't be one near them anyway.
Wrong, OC has one and Easton has one. Pocomoke has one and Worc Co Sheriff has one. There are several bomb dogs on the shore
ReplyDeleteAre these two dogs at WCSO the same age. It sounds like a real waste. If they where a few years apart I could see it. Then you keep one in service as another is worked in. Hmmmm. Just an observation. Also couldnt another patrol dog be of more use if all the aurrounding counties appear to have Bomb Dogs. I am just going off the post earlier I dont know ?? Joe maybe you can clear this up.
ReplyDeleteWho Cares! Give it a rest.
ReplyDeleteI know, let's make sure the Cops are different ages when they're sent out on a call too, right? LOL
