Bail Out Money for Obama's Inauguration?

A full 90 percent of donations to fund Barack Obama’s Jan. 20 inauguration have come from well-heeled fundraisers — including Wall Street executives whose companies have received federal bailout money.

A total of 207 fundraisers have collected $24.8 million of the $27.3 million in donations disclosed by Obama through Thursday, according to an analysis by Public Citizen commissioned by The Wall Street Journal.

Slightly more than 2,000 donors accounted for the $27.3 million raised, but 378 of those people each contributed the maximum $50,000 allowed by Obama, raising almost 70 percent of the total, or $18.9 million, the analysis found.

Wall Street employees have been the largest single source of private donations, and many of the contributions have been channeled through financial-services executives who have put together bundles of donations worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“The preponderance of large donors and the fact that so many come from an industry receiving government handouts comes as the president-elect has sought to keep his inauguration free of special interests,” The Journal observed.

Bundlers from the financial sector include executives from Citigroup Inc. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., two firms that have accepted billions of dollars each in bailout money from the federal government.

Obama’s presidential campaign smashed all previous fundraising records, raking in more than an astounding $650 million from some 3 million donors.

  1. No suprise there-why would they bite the hand that has promised to feed them?
Remember that old saying "a chicken in every pot"....I am starting to think BHO's motto should be "a check in every mailbox".If he does anything to help lower-middle class families like my own who work and do not get handouts,THAT will suprise me.

  3. Ugh Citigroup! This company disgusts me. Millions of dollars in bailouts yet I STILL cannot speak to an American what the ....?? The government should have just paid off the mortgages and had the people pay the government back, the interests rates would be less and these stupid butt lenders would be out of business! I know, maybe it isn't logical but I am so sick of not being able to call any corporation and speak to an American! Saving the economy my butt they are simply giving more money to employee people in other countries, it's bull crapola. Here is an idea how about hiring freaking U.S. citizens, you know the ones who are losing their jobs by the hundreds, the ones who have contributed to this country for decades? How about giving us a chance instead of out sourcing to other nations, how about that? Gawd I am so sick of this crap. I am so sick of seeing friends, family, and all the others being laid off a week before Christmas, I am so sick of the government giving money to CEO's (ultimately that is what happens...right in their pockets) when the common man is having a hard time paying the electric because they can charge whatever they want and we sit back and have no way to fight it.
Give us the money to install solar panels, thats a start. Give the common man a chance to survive without killing himself to make it. Give the citizens of this country what they need to live. I am not saying bailout people who could spend the rest of their lives in government housing living on welfare without blinking an eye. I am talking about the men (and women) who bust their butts every week and STILL can't afford the common every day expenses. Some of us are sick and tired of trying and trying to only get a boot in the face every week.

  4. To General logic

Your denocratic tactic of trying to flip the script in order to avoid seeing the problem for what it is, is also general logic. Everytime you guys cant wiggle your way out of a issue you fall back on the "He did it too" b.s.

At first I was just disappointed that obama was elected, now, Im down right peowed. Im angry about the focus being taken off obamas experience to do this job.Im tired of everytime anyone raises a issue about obama they are racist.

The afro-americans arent going to feel equal until there are no more skin differences between people. They think that if they mix enough black and whites together we will all be "grey". This will never happen. I personally like the contrast in peoples skin color. And lets imagine for one frightening moment that everyone is the same color, whats next ? The size of you nose ? Or how tall you are ?

People really dont think about what they want outside of the "right now". And this is the true crime. A tiger cant change his strips.

  5. 11:11 Don't you just want to say to the Obamabots well if Obama jumped off a cliff would you do it too? Glad to see that someone else sees the ridiculous "Well they did it too" crap answer they try and excuse Obamas hypocritical flip flopping.

  6. OMG!
    You people amaze me sometimes.
You want to go after Democrats for the "he did it too" mentality when all the time fingers were being pointed at Bush, all anyone heard was "well look what Clinton did".

Let's all focus on OUR future and stop bringing in past mistakes made by whoever.

If we keep this focus, we will never be able to get ourselves out of the mess we're in...no matter who's fault it is.

Personally, I think there's enough blame to go around for both parties.
