Special Props Go Out To Salisbury Christian School Students

I wanted to take a moment to thank States Attorney Davis Ruark and the Students from the Salisbury Christian School who took their Saturday and hung out in the cold to ring the bells at the Fruitland WalMart from 9 to 5 today for the Salvation Army.

There are so many special people and groups that have volunteered and we'll eventually get to them when we get closer to Christmas. In the mean time, thank you so much. We are filling in the open slots like there's no tomorrow now. There's not that many left so if YOU want your group or company promoted for volunteering don't waste any time signing up.

Remember, you can always sign up as a friend of the Salvation Army too.

Calling Out Station 2 In Salisbury

The following was a comment made recently.

"Anonymous said...

S.F.D # 2 is supposed to be ringing the bell on 12/20 from 3-9 at Wal Mart North, and they are not on there as well. 2:13 PM"

I have spoken with the Salvation Army and they have pulled together every single person working there and they are not aware Station 2 is willing to cover this shift. The fact that this was posted under anonymous, someone could be playing a game trying to commit this location into something they really didn't agree to.

That being said, IF Station 2 would be willing to fill in that gap, that would be fantastic. Please call 410-749-7771 ext. 100 and please let them know you truly want to do so.

Thanking You In Advance, Joe Albero

DIRECTV Now Responds To Salisbury News

This is the response I received from DirectTV regarding carrying the local channels, WBOC & WMDT.

"Response (Alfredo P. - 100177886) - 12/05/2008 05:45 PM
Dear Mr. Gilbert,

Thanks for writing.

As you know, we don’t offer local channels in the Salisbury MD area right now, but we’re very glad you took the time to write in and let us know your feelings about getting local channels via satellite. I’ve also forwarded your request to DIRECTV management, so be assured that your voice is being heard.

We would love to provide local channels to you and other customers in the Salisbury MD, too, but our satellite capacity doesn’t allow it today. We’re continuing to expand our capacity, so stick with us. Stay tuned to local news and directv.com/local for more information as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, you may be able to get your local channels for free by installing an off-air antenna. An electronics store can recommend an antenna for you.

Sincerely,

Freddie P.

A Very Humbling Day

As many of you were aware, I spent the bulk of my day Friday at WalMart ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Although my day started at 9:00 AM and went all the way till 9:00 PM, the time flew by like you wouldn't believe.

I want to thank all of you for stopping by throughout the day and evening to say hello. Even I was amazed at just how many of you thanked me for what I do with Salisbury News and made a point to go out of your way to mention that.

I want to thank the many who offered a cup of coffee and ultimately one loyal reader and his better half who surprised me last night with an unbelievable cup of Hot Chocolate!!!!! Boy did that hit the spot.

When so many people make comments here under anonymous, it's hard to figure just how many different people they are but let me assure you, today showed me there are quite a few of you out there.

I would also like to thank the guys who relieved me at the North end of WalMart from 6-9 PM. You guys really helped me out and gave me some time to sit down with my Wife and get something to eat before I relieved the other wonderful couple at the South end from 7-9 PM. They weren't on the schedule, (a slip up by the Salvation Army).

So all in all, just when I thought this would be a horribly long day, it was quite the opposite. As a matter of fact, as long as my body can take it, I'd do it over and over again because it's that rewarding.

The smiles on every one's faces. Handing out almost 250 Candy Canes to small children and yes, even some adults. That was cool! I'll be back in Sam's Club buying another 300 to make sure I'm ready for the next go around.

I'm a bit tired writing this so I hope I'm making sense and getting across to all of you that today was one of the most rewarding days of my life. YOU complete Salisbury News. Thanks for the smiles, the warm reception from everyone and the appreciation for something I truly enjoyed doing. I'll see you out there again next week.

HISTORICAL MOMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER

The Great Jail Incident

Back in the late 1930’s, it was determined that the old jail behind the Wicomico County Courthouse was not adequate and a new one was needed. The first phase entailed razing the old jail. As is proper with government projects, the job was put out for bids.

On the day the sealed bids were opened, my grandfather’s bid was substantially lower than anyone else’s. When questioned by his peers as to how he could do the job at such a low cost. He replied that it wouldn’t cost that much to just dynamite the old jail and haul the rubble away. At that point, he was told he had really made a serious mistake because it was illegal to set off dynamite within the city limits. They told him it would cost him far more than his bid to bring in a crew with sledge hammers and raze the old jail. He just shrugged and said nothing.

Late the following Sunday night a great explosion was heard in downtown Salisbury. The following morning found him standing in front of the Clerk of Court with $25 in his hand. When asked what the money was for, he told the clerk that it was for the maximum amount he could be fined for setting off dynamite within the city limits according to the City Charter. He then proceeded to help with shoveling the rubble into dump trucks and clearing the space where the new jail was to be erected. Needless to say, his costs were well under his estimate.

Did The Gas Companies Destroy The American Economy?

Citco claims gas could drop to a dollar a gallon within the next few months. So what happened? My guess, the Oil Companies have had an Oil Man in the White House allowing them to do anything and everything they wanted and now that Obama is heading into the White House, (a non Oil Man) they're scared to death.

Obama won't have time to look into the illegal activities brought to Americans by the Oil Companies but could you just imagine if he did have the time.

SO, that being said, the MSM is claiming the gas companies could salvage this economy. What a group of Idiots with their lips stuck up the a$$es of the oil companies! IF that were the case, why aren't they blaming the oil companies for destroying the American economy to start with?

Oh, that's right, this is America where we just don't give a shit.

IS THAT "NORTH PRONG" NONSENSE ABOUT TO BEGIN?

"Joe,

I wrote to you a week ago about my efforts to donate several items of durable medical equipment to a non-profit and the trouble I was having doing that. Well! The response was overwhelming and instant. 3 deserving organizations now have all of the equipment, my wife can park her car in the garage again and I can go to sleep at night with a smile on my kisser knowing that I've helped to make a difference in people's lives, just like you do.

Thanks, Joe. Keep up the good work!

Merry Christmas!

You Gotta Love This!

In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility, all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace.

This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your callsign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and destination.

I just flew with a guy who overheard this conversation on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai. It's too good not to pass along. The conversation went something like this...

Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft at (location unknown), you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not de part our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!'

Air Defense Radar: (no response. . . total silence)

Fruitland's Tree Lighting Ceremony

Hi Joe,

Last night we had a wonderful turn out in Fruitland for the Tree Lighting ceremony. We had the largest crowd that anyone can remember since we've been holding this event. Fruitland Recreation sold hot dogs and drinks while Adams Ribs provided their truck to supply hot cocoa and cookies. I sat and took money as people waited in line for the hot dogs and drinks. Every single person said Thank You and many said Merry Christmas. We also had singers from St. Johns United Methodist Church along with local second graders who sang carols. Members from Bennett High Schools band provided music which was a nice treat. At the end of the evening the Fruitland Fire Dept helped Santa arrive to his many fans. Fruitland Chamber of Commerce did a great job once again putting on this event!

This is one event I look forward to each year. Fruitland might be a small town but we have lot's of spirit. Thank you to everyone who was there to make it such a success. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Safe & Happy New Year!

PS Don't forget:
Fruitland Chamber of Commerce is holding it's annual House Decorating Contest for all residents of Fruitland.
Fruitland Police Dept is holding it's Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays. This will help needy families have a Christmas.

Men's Restroom Mural -------- Read before looking at picture

Edge Designs is an all-women run company that designs interior office space.
They had a recent opportunity to do an office project in NYC.

The client allowed the women of this company a free hand in all design aspects.
The client was a company that was also run by all women execs.............

The result.........well.....We all know that Men never talk, never look at each other....
And never laugh much in the restroom.... The men's room is a serious and quiet
place...But now...with the addition of one mural On the wall......lets just say the men's
Restroom is a place of laughter and smiles.

And they say women don't have a sense of humor.

Send this to all the gal's in your life that need a smile

And the guys you think can take having a little fun poked

At them, after all they are always trying to poke a little something at us.

Those Who Forget The Past Are Destined To Repeat It

Thomas Jefferson (Letter to James Monroe, January 1, 1815)

“If the American People ever allow the banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers occupied. The issuing power of money should be taken from the bankers and restored to Congress and the people to whom it belongs. I sincerely believe the banking institutions having the issuing power of money are more dangerous to liberty than standing armies.

We are completely saddled and bridled, and the bank is so firmly mounted on us that we must go where they ill guide.

The dominion which the banking institutions have obtained over the minds of our citizens...must be broken, or it will break us.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bankers Manifesto of 1892
We (the bankers) must proceed with caution and guard every move made, for the lower order of people are already showing signs of restless commotion. Prudence will therefore show a policy of apparently yielding to the popular will until our plans are so far consummated that we can declare our designs without fear of any organized resistance.

Organizations in the United States should be carefully watched by our trusted men, and we must take immediate steps to control these organizations in our interest or disrupt them.

At the coming Omaha convention to be held July 4, 1892, our men must attend and direct its movement or else there will be set on foot such antagonism to our designs as may require force to overcome.

This at the present time would be premature. We are not yet ready for such a crisis. Capital must protect itself in every possible manner through combination (conspiracy) and legislation.

The courts must be called to our aid, debts must be collected, bonds and mortgages foreclosed as rapidly as possible.

When, through the process of law, the common people have lost their homes,
they will be more tractable and easily governed through the influence of the strong arm of the government applied to a central power of imperial wealth under the control of the leading financiers.

People without homes will not quarrel with their leaders. History repeats itself in regular cycles. This truth is well known among our principal men who are engaged in forming an imperialism of the world. While they are doing this, the people must be kept in a state of political antagonism.

The question of tariff reform must be urged through the organization known as the Democratic Party, and the question of protection with the reciprocity must be forced to view through the Republican Party.

By thus dividing voters, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance to us, except as teachers to the common herd. Thus, by discrete actions, we can secure all that has been so generously planned and successfully accomplished.

Upcoming Fundraiser For Chuck Campbell

Joe,

Not sure if it’s newsworthy enough to get on your blog, but there is going to be a bake sale fundraiser for me and my transplant expenses held soon. Tina Twilley, the owner of Designer’s Edge Hair Studio, Mary Jane Adkins, one of her employees, and many of the other employees of Designer’s Edge are organizing the bake sale for me. It is going to take place from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Designer’s Edge Studio, located at East Naylor Mill Road, Salisbury (behind the Centre at Salisbury).

Many local residents and business owners are donating baked goods as well as some “special items” that will be raffled off. I would like to personally invite as many people to attend so that all the hard work being done by the ladies of Designer’s Edge will be recognized.

Ms. Twilley is also challenging other local business owners to donate money for my cause. They can do so by coming to the bake sale or they can go online and donate directly. The web link is http://www.transplantfund.org/restricted/patient-detail.cfm?pat_id=2727. Any publicity you can provide for this event will be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Chuck Campbell
