Ireton Should Sue The Daily Times
Considering I dropped my subscription to the Daily Times a month or so ago, I thought the article about 10 Reasons to Elect Jim Ireton Salisbury's Mayor (David Letterman Style) was a joke.
However, someone just sent in the link to the actual article HERE and I truly could not believe my eyes. Are you F/N kidding me?
How ANY one of you can still continue to keep your subscription to this piece of crap newspaper is beyond me. Your message should be LOUD AND CLEAR, you're sick and tired of this leadership in Salisbury and their main spokes people, the Daily Times.
How many of you have had enough?

Executive Order from Republican President #16
The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.
In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.
Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore.
Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.
No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People.
I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.
And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

Special Holiday Wishes From Gordy
"Gordy has left a new comment:
Joe, I hope you and your family die a painful, fiery death this holiday season. I can assure you we won't respond."
Here's my response. Gas is 10 cents a gallon cheaper at Sam's Club. Happy Thanksgiving Folks!

FIREWOOD!
I have readers regularly asking if I know of anyone who sells seasoned firewood. With 7.5 acres of land here and many more wooded acres next to me, firewood is not an issue for us. However, it's my understanding for others they're having a difficult time finding someone who sells and delivers cords of wood.
That being said, if YOU know of someone reliable and reasonable, please leave their name and number on this Post.
Teach your children about Thanksgiving
How to Teach Children the Meaning of Thanksgiving
By eHow Relationships & Family Editor
Many countries throughout the world have a harvest festival of some kind. In North America, Thanksgiving is the most common autumn celebration, but what does it really mean, and how should you explain it to your children?
Many countries throughout the world have a harvest festival of some kind. In North America, Thanksgiving is the most common autumn celebration, but what does it really mean, and how should you explain it to your children?
Explain the ancient origins of the harvest festival to your children. In ancient times, people of many cultures (including the ancient Greeks, Romans, Hebrews, Egyptians and Chinese) gave thanks to their god or gods for a successful harvest, and some of the traditions associated with modern Thanksgiving celebrations have their roots in these ancient festivals.
Discuss the roots of the American Thanksgiving celebration. In 1621, near the end of the Plymouth colony's first year in America, the settlers gave thanks for a plentiful first harvest. The pilgrims and the natives celebrated together (they had arranged a peace treaty), and everyone feasted on geese, ducks, deer, corn, oysters, fish and berries.
Discuss Native American issues surrounding Thanksgiving. Despite the harmonious relations that may have existed between natives and pilgrims at the first Thanksgiving feast, many subsequent American Thanksgivings involved settlers giving thanks for victories over the natives. Ask your children how they feel about this, and discuss the recent efforts that have been made by the American government and people to apologize for past discrimination and violence.
Explain when ' and why ' Thanksgiving became an official holiday. In 1863, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed that Thanksgiving should be a national observance. To some degree, this was a way to brighten the spirits of the American people, who were dealing with a great deal of difficulty and deprivation.
Explain that one aspect of Thanksgiving involves gratitude for having enough food to eat, and encourage your children to help you buy groceries for the food bank, or make a donation to a local soup kitchen.

The Parrot
A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.
Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."
John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Thanks Capsfan!

Happy Thanksgiving
Dear Joe,
Allow me to take this opportunity to wish you a happy Thanksgiving that is rich with all the joy and meaning of the season. While many of us are facing real and serious challenges that may seem insurmountable at times, I believe there is also a growing sense of hope and optimism.
We have much to be thankful for in the greatness of a nation that puts the power of change in our hands; hands that labored with love to help an entire country chart a better course for all.
This Thanksgiving I will be reflecting in amazement on the millions of people like you, who came together to transform a simple expression of hope - "Yes We Can" - into a reality. I join with so many American voices this holiday in expressing my heartfelt gratitude for your contribution - no matter how large or small - that has changed the course of history and confirmed the true promise and spirit of America.
In less than two months we will experience the inauguration of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. We will begin to watch them work with a new Congress forged in your image and elected on your hopes and dreams.
The change we seek will not come instantly or easily. But the miracle of America is our ability to overcome and emerge stronger. We will overcome again.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Michael Cryor
