Rumors At Mardela High Cleared Right Here And Now
Multiple phone calls started coming in referencing a man with a gun at Mardela High threatening to kill black kids. NOT TRUE! The next rumor was a bomb threat. NOT TRUE!
Here's the real dealio. Two students got into a heated discussion yesterday, (they are friends) about the election results. The next thing you know, rumors started spreading throughout the School and today things growing to a point in which kids were using cell phones saying there were bomb threats, a man with a gun and things got completely out of hand.
The Sheriff's Deputy that is normally on duty there called in sick today but there was a replacement and when I arrived there were an additional two Deputies there to calm the storm.
Parents were showing up like there's no tomorrow pulling their kids out of School for the day. Some were even saying the Principal wasn't there today and that too is not true.
So relax Parents, things are perfectly fine. There were no such threats and everything is cool. Remember, you heard it here first, including photos.
Joe this is not about this post. However I just read where obama has offered a cabinet post to one of the Clintons flunkies,Man are we in for some deep chit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I had heard about the rumors.. went to WBOC's webpage and there was nothing. I heard they were trying to keep the media from finding out.. but i'm glad you cleared the air!
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone within the school board know that our children are safe when they haven't even searched the school???? Will they be able to live with themselves if something bad happens because they didn't take this matter more seriously???? What is the county paying to have K-9 Dogs for....Easy solution to find something hidden. School shootings happen all over the country, we are not exempt on the shore; has everyone forgotten what happened at DE State????
ReplyDeleteThe Sky Is Falling! The Sky Is Falling!
ReplyDelete10:37 you are wasting your time on this blog if you have anything negetive to say regarding the WCSO. The blog owner is having an affair with the Mike Lewis! Call the County Counsel!
ReplyDeleteif you shut down instruction for every little rumor in high school there would be no teaching. That high school has great admonistrators who know what they are doing and im sure have followed proper procedure. I have kids there and I'm confident that things have been handled properly.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is what happens when you put a black man in the WHITE house.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you! It was bound to happen once Obama came along.

ReplyDeleteso that is the excuse for students not knowing how to act, maybe they should have been taught better morals and manners at home
Thanks for putting a nasty rumor to rest,Joe.Apparently no other news source had any intel about it.Sadly, there may be ALOT of similar rumor-urban legends across the country in weeks to come.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me, but do YOU watch PAC 14 or attend City Council Meetings? Do you watch how the Mayor of Salisbury, Comegys, Smith and Shields treat others? These ARE the people setting examples for our children and quite frankly it sickens me personally.
ReplyDeleteI believe the rumor of the so called bomb came long after the deputies cleared.
ReplyDeleteIf that's the case, how did I know about it before I even arrived. Use your head.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this piece. Yes many parents picked their children up from school today. I talked to several parents and all were told a different story by the school. What are they to think? You error on the side of caution when it comes to your children. Not all parents picked their children up. I know of a few parents that sat in on classes today to assure their child and others were ok and to give some peace to other parents that weren't able to sit in on the classes. The kids do know what is going on in school but they do make it bigger than what it really is. The school isn't straight forward with the parents and you see mistrust and children going home. I am a parent of a child at this school. Mine stayed in school today. I made the phone call, listened to several of the parents and felt the school was handling the situation and that it had been blown out of proportion. I do feel that many of the kids saw an opportunity to get a day off of school. I do not fault the parents that took their children out. I do think the school needs to trust the parents with the entire story so they can make an informed decision about their childs safety. This is a great school that just needs a little more communication.
ReplyDeleteImagine my surprise finding out about this at 2:30pm when all the rumors have been cleared and the school is ok. Thanks Joe, this wasn't anywhere else and my 2 kids don't have cell phones.
ReplyDeleteI'm a senior at Mardela and it's a trully scary thing when there's a threat like that. I know people will never forget Columbine or VA Tech. The parents that lost their kids don't forget that. I left for safety reasons not to skip school. You can't disprove a rumor without hard evidence. And a school shooting is nothing to play around with. I would rather be safe and miss a day of school than risk something happening. Like some others said.. Its just in case, and people would feel awful if something HAD happened. You never know what can really happen and to just cast everything aside and call parents silly for taking their children home isn't the right thing to do. So I just encourage people to be a little more understanding of the parents and the children who left to be safe (not saying that some kids didn't leave to skip, but not all did.) This is probably something we're going to have to deal with across the country and hopefully all future threats can be rumors.
ReplyDeleteIts a shame how ignorant some people are on this blog, and Joe I agree with you its looking like the adults are ruining our kids if its not the people we put in high positions its tha parents themselve. I am so happy that I have parents that were never biased, taught me to have respect for others and that everyone is equal. I actually am an alumni from this school which is predominately white, and I am black and never had any issues, because my wgite friends were raised the same way I was. So if adults would grow up, and show respect and equaliy of others our youth may turn out better. No one should be fighting about the history that was made they shoul embrace
ReplyDeleteJoe,
ReplyDeleteMy kids go to Mardela. This is true. HUSH HUSH. We took our kids out of school today. Get your facts straight and stop covering this up for Lewis.
Anon 10:49 and anon 5:56, I am so glad I am not the only one that noticed that about Joe and WOSO. I believe Joe does have the best intentions for this community but defiantly has his favorites and Lewis is one of them.
ReplyDeleteON the other side. Joe, Good Job at keeping us informed on what was going on over MSHS.
Rumor or not i was not taking a chance with my childs life and yes i did go and take them out. It was no excuse for my child to get out of schhol to text me and let me know what was going on. I called the school and i was told nothing was going on but the deputy is talking to parents. Ok I am thinking if nothing is going on why is the deputy having to talk to parents?
ReplyDeletei got the same story from other parents i talked to that my child text so i did go get her.once i got to the school i got two different stories one from the deputy and another from the front desk secertary. So who are u to believe? If adults cant tell you the truth then i am going to believe my child. You also have to remeber that MMHS is the biggest redneck school in the county and this happen 3 years ago and I keep my kids out of school then too. Sure maybe nothing happen but like i said i would rather be safe then sorry when it comes to my kids.
I am just curious about something....what is it about Mardela HS that makes you say it is "the biggest redneck school in the county"?And what makes you feel that it being "redneck" makes it unsafe?I just want you to clarify that for me,because it seems to me that you are labeling it as "redneck" without giving a reason why.Someone else mentioned it was a predominantly white school and that is probably because of its location in the county, not because it is "redneck".People throw that label around too loosely.
ReplyDeleteAnon 1:13 redneck is a racist term meaning White. You can imagine the outcry if WIHI was referred to a "N-word" school. Just remember these are only words so I don't let them bother me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the update... Mardela is the GREATEST kept secret of Wicomico County Schools. The school has a fantastic administration and some of the finest teachers in the county. Our students are some of the nicest kids in the area. Yesterday's incident was created by one child overhearing a conversation that they were not involved in. (Like the old L'oreal commercial - pass it on...)Cell phones (which are not allowed to be used during the school day) were the second problem. In this age of advanced technological communication, it is a shame that something like this occurred. Administrators were unable to tell parents exactly what was happening during the day because they are not able to do so util they are sure of the facts... All children were completely safe and in fact, it was quite a nice day once those students that signed out were gone. Interesting... Hmmmm...
