Ladies & Gentlemen:
As you know, the new Fire Station 16 has been somewhat of a target for me as I knew Chief See, Deputy Chief Gordy, Mayor Tilgman and Gary Comegys were misleading the public in so many ways. Today I'm about to break some news to you in which you're just not going to believe.
At any moment now, the City will be CLOSING a portion of Isabella Street. You know where that Bridge is between Mill Street and Lake Street? They're shutting it down without ANY notice to the Public and this is a very serious matter.
No, it won't be closed for a week or two. We're talking MONTHS, if not a year! They have been peace mealing work on that Bridge for years and it has been deemed unstable and they're closing it down. How convenient they knew the Bridge had serious issues but now that the Fire Department is using it regularly, several times a day, it can't withold the weight.
Equipment and supplies are already being stored in the old Training area for the Fire Department. Here's the problem now. ANY time the main Rt. 50 Bridge is up, you will get NO service from Station 16, Ambulance or Police Department to the Church Street area or the East side of the Bridge.
The response time, (which has gone through the roof ever since they relocated anyway) with this Bridge being closed will now skyrocket. Now each and every one of you know for a fact that Comegys and Mayor Tilghman have known about this for MONTHS now, this is what you want with your next Mayor?
If Joe Albero can find out these FACTS and expose them to you, it has been covered up for quite some time and you're not hearing of any warning from the Daily Times or the rest of the MSM, yet this will change the lives of THOUSANDS of people working and living in that area. THEY DON'T CARE!
We demand the Mayor and Comegys go PUBLIC with this information and express it to those people depending on that route in their every day lives. Like Joe Albero or Salisbury News or not, we deliver information the Daily Times and others won't touch. We deliver news and information that is investigative, unlike other local sources who report what we've already broke.
If you think this is bad, (which it is) I will have additional Posts going up this morning that will also blow you away. Stay tuned Folks, it's going to be a big day here on SBYnews.com .
More to come..........
I have spoken with Public Works Director Jim Caldwell and he has informed me that a "Traffic Control Plan" will be submitted to the Council very soon in reference to traffic and closings. They will be installing new water and sewer lines across the Bridge area as well as some structural work on both sides of the culvert due to erosion. The City did award $2,600,000.00 for this project and a Contractor has been hired.
Do the recall petition now -- we can't wait until the end of their terms to bounce both Barrie and Bubba Comegys!
ReplyDeleteIs this a Barrie & Comegys plot to get support for the North Prong "revitalization" scam that they are pushing for their developer benefactors?
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's true, but while talking to a Salisbury City Police officer the other day, he informed me that the bridge going over business RT. 50 at Broad Street was going to be closed for a full replacement. Maybe he was talking about the other bridge, but we were standing on top of the bridge in question. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this.
ReplyDelete"ANY time the main Rt. 50 Bridge is up, you will get NO service from the Fire Department, Ambulance or Police Department."
ReplyDeleteNow that's some real "investigative reporting". Seems that you have overlooked two other fire stations with ambulances on the east side of the bridge as well as, I would imagine, several police units patrolling the east side whenever the bridge is up! How, in your great investigation so superior to any other news agency, could you have possibly missed this???
Barrie you suck.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 11:03, you are correct. My Post should have stated you won't get any service from Station 16. Forgive me for that mistake? I will go back and correct it.
ReplyDeleteIMPEACH BARRIE TILGHMAN!
ReplyDelete(and Bubba Comegys, too)
How will this affect that wall that Barrie and Bubba want to have the city build for that FOB on Isabella Street?
ReplyDeleteAnd will there be enough "spare" city funds for that work the Louweasel Smith wants at Canal Woods?
Well the Chief has got himself in a pinch. His big firehouse on the West side has prblems already getting Volunteers to the firehouse and now this. They cant get there and the fire trucks cant get to the East side. Everyone knew the response plan was marginal at best. When either of the bridges go down it creates a real safety issue for citizens and responders. Maybe his HOURS PEOPLE will bail him out. Expect major delays if there is a fire or medical call. Good job Gordo. This is just another example of your short sighted thinking.
ReplyDeleteThis is unacceptable. Do they realize the amount of traffic that uses this street. The City should have had alternative routes constructed long before now. There will be back ups for miles on the Parkway and how will the fire trucks get through. What exactly is an Hours Person ? Are these the Paid firemen ? I hope someone can get to the calls.
ReplyDeleteCrystal,
ReplyDeleteAn hours person is the Chiefs new breed of Volunteer. They drop by once or twice a month and put in about 24 hours a month. The rest of the time they do not respond to calls. So they are no good in this case. Stations 1 & 2 have real Volunteers who respond from home on a regular basis. The Chief and Gordo would like to stop us from doing that. They ruined the Volunteers there and we ain't going to let it happen here. Keep your hours junk Gordo. The Volunteers at Station 16 dont get many guys back to calls at the new station. This is gonna really suck trying to get there now.
How convenient for Gary, Barrie and Shanie. They have a firestation at their doorstep. What areas potentially have the longer response times now/ Thats right the neighborhoods where Campbell, Cohen and Ireton live.Lucky for Lynnie and Paul Wilbur they have a station at their doorstep too! It pays to be a FOB!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a real mess. I thought a Volunteer was on call all the time. Never heard of just being a volunteer fo a few hours a month. Who came up with this concept. I'm sure there are good people volunteering, but we need them more than a few hours a month.
ReplyDeletedo you have any info on why the new road extending Beaglin thru to Zion Rd is not open? The neighborhood locals are using it, but it's not formally open, and is just....sitting. that would really help with traffic, I think.
ReplyDeleteLet them fix the bridge once and for all, and do it right. However did this concern ever arise while they were selling us their grossly inflated firehouse plans?
ReplyDeleteIf this is the case, then Station 16 should do as Delaware fire companies did when bridges to some areas had been closed from flood damage and move equipment to the other side. The Old Station House should be equipped again with a few essential trucks!
ReplyDeleteOf course they may find this works TOO well......

It was supposed to open on October 23, 2008, but for some reason it hasn't. Does anyone know why?
What is the big deal now? This was a point I brought up originally and constantly keep bringing it up. The only ambulance service you are getting east of the river is for them to constantly riding around or sitting on this side of the river. Everybody that made decisions on this matter should be fired immediately for abusing their position and malfeasance in office. This should be done and they will not be getting Tax Payers paid benefits. Even if they are out of office charges should be brought forth and all benefits cancelled retro-active. They are Public servants and can be held responsible for not protecting the Public and creating life threatening situations for the Public. I am a very concerned Citizen and not one of Joe's people like some of you try to label when you kow you or a bunch of crooks and do not like comments that shows your incompetence.
ReplyDeleteWell, the old firehouse near the library isn't being used. I say that half the crew and equipment move back there for the repair time. Looking at the time it takes to fix 50@Tilghman and the Beaglin Farce projects, that would take us through our next mayoral term.
ReplyDeleteBarry G
I must be missing something here.
ReplyDeleteIf the bridges go up and there is an emergency on the west side, how go you transport the victims to the hospital. I realize that we have a chopper that can come from
the western shore, but what if.
Hey Joe have you seen the new furniture at station 16 very nice.
ReplyDeleteWhere was the Planning and Zoning Board? This shows ignorance and incompetence of the Mayor, Chief See, Deputy Chief Gordy and Comegy. Comegy works for SHA and they have had restrictions on ths bridge for several years. He never expressed concern or oppossion and now wants to be Mayor! This shows complancency with the people of Salisbury. Just think the City wants to bring the County into their grasp to help pay for their ignorance. They should be out digging ditches with shovels so they know basics of planning.
ReplyDelete12:40, I guess they could take them to McCready; if the ferry is running.
ReplyDeleteJoe, I am confused. If the route 50 bridge is up, don't they take Isabella street. And, when they were at the old station 16, and an emergency was on the west side of the bridge and it was up, they took another route. Whats the differance. I hope you answer this question for me.
ReplyDeletePlease explain the huge sums spent for the "museum" at the new fire house, when the older ones are in dire need?
ReplyDeleteHas everyone here forgotten Isabella street ? There are three roads, not two !
ReplyDeleteIf the Isabella route/bridge is closed and the Draw Bridge is up, no, they cannpt get Downtown or into the Camden area without traveling all the way down Jersey road to 13 and then back to the Downtown area. You'd be quicker caling in Pittsville.
ReplyDelete1:46 Isabella Street is the bridge closing for repair in which Joe is refering to. There are the 2 draw bridges, but when both are up, major delays occur. Theres no way to get around unless you take Jersey Road to Naylor Mill Road.
ReplyDeleteBeaglin is scheduled to open friday!!!
ReplyDeleteIf thats the case, the city should keep some of the new equipment from New #16 over on Brown St. in case the drawbridges go up and theres an emergency.
ReplyDeleteit doesnt affect just the city. imagine if hebron, sharptown, vienna, ect where bringing a patient in via ambulance. and the bridge is up, and isabella is closed
ReplyDeleteTHE STATION ON COLLEGE AVE. CAN RESPOND TO CAMDEN AREA...
ReplyDeleteanonymous 2:13,
ReplyDeleteCertainly. So can Powellville, Pittsville, Fruitland, Delmar etc.
We paid $10,000,000.00 for the most OUTSTANDING Fire Department in the United States and we're getting screwed.
YOU DIDN'T PAY FOR ANYTHING MR. DELMAR, WE DID, NOW IF YOU LIVED HERE IS MD, MAYBE WE WOULD LISTEN, BUT TO LISTEN TO AN OUTSIDER...DON'T THINK SO, WE CAN MAKE UO OUR OWN MINDS
ReplyDeleteFor goodness sakes, whats the big deal, they can call the WAWA and have them dispatch fire or ambulance equiptment, it seems like every time I look a piece of equiptment is there. If it runs into spring, we will have two stations close to each other on Rt 13, the other Station being Rita's.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 2:28,
ReplyDeletePlease have ANY Realtor friend or associate look up this address, a$$hole.
300 W. Main Street
Salisbury
I pay more taxes in the City of Salisbury on that ONE property that 5 of your friends pay for their homes. Maybe not that much but my point is made. Now STFU.
I thought Firefighters were MEN??? Use your name next time.
2:13 (Bubba-?)-
ReplyDeleteThat's not what the station on College Avenue is intended to serve, and could result in folks in its service area being under served and/or endangered.
NOT A FIRE-FIGHTER, JUST A LIFE LONG RESIDENT THAT GETS TIRED OF LONG WINDED OUTSIDERS CAUSING TROUBLE.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 2:41, No Apology?
ReplyDeleteApology FOR WHAT?
ReplyDeleteI am a taxpayer in the City of Salisbury. I own that Fire Department.
ReplyDeleteAnon 2:41 pm - Excuse me, but sometimes outsiders have better thought through ideas than locals, especially if those locals have names like Gordy, Comegys, Tilghman, Shields, Smith, etc., etc., etc.
ReplyDeleteCarful Joe, they'll work on moving the hospital next! It's certainly within their mindset!
ReplyDeleteDIDN'T THINK YOU WOULD POST MY LAST COMMENTS, BULLY'S ARE LIKE THAT
ReplyDeleteHey Robinson, get a life.
ReplyDeleteHey joe they are wasting more money with the nice new furniture in the lounge also...
ReplyDeleteHell they cant fix the expansion plates on the Mill ST. bridge. They are in the same shape as they were before they fixed them.
ReplyDeleteSo Joe you say you are the owner of 16..My 84 yo mother thanks you for wasting her money..She has lived in the same house in the city since the 50's... Instead slaming why don t you all get the facts straight than nail the bastards... Just a thought
ReplyDeleteMr. Joealbero,
ReplyDeleteSince you have taken the liberty to publish this item, may I offer my insights;
a) The MD SHA has planned and approved this re-structuring on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, pursuiant folio #sha-wico-429a3708.
b) As to bridge restructure and pipe installation; A combined effort has been implemented to expidite installation of 4800 vac power lines as requested by the city of Salisbury. The power lines are to be at terminal point 231-735 as listed on city plat # ac-681, dated 27 october 1947 updated january 14,2008. It is my understanding the 4800 vac terminal point will provide for expanded power consumption as required for the north prong re-devolopment. Again, City officials have requested this for re-devolopment of that area.
The long term benifits of this project will benifit the city and its river place development. We might not realize the benifits short term, but as the econemy resurges the city will be ready to embrace said development. I do not feel as this is a "cover up"
Sincerely,
Jammile (Jamie)Jefferson
We should make ISO aware of this situation--ISO evaluates cities nationwide AND THEIR EVALUATION IS USED TO SET THE FIRE INSURANCE RATES that we citizens (City residents as well as the County residents serviced by SFD) have to pay for fire insurance on our business or home. Our fire insurance rates will go up because of Barrie's total incompetence. How much more devastation can Barrie heap on us?????????
ReplyDeleteJoe, paying taxes does not mean you own the fire department sir.
ReplyDeleteRIVERPLACE DEVELOPMENT! Did everyone catch that? Is that the North Prong where the drawings show housing and a hotel on our deepwater port instead of the businessses that are already there?
ReplyDeleteBut it's going to bring thirty jobs? Hahha They are wearing that one out. I bet there's more than thirty jobs there now. Remember the deal with Walgreens? $350,000 in tax breaks for over twenty years because it was bringing thirty jobs? What happened? Rite Aid and Super "G" both closed up and it was a net loss of jobs, a lot more than thirty. We are not that stupid.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice weightroom at the new firehouse suckers. I just finished a killer workout. Eat your heart out Albero.
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me a month or so ago that there was a giant sinkhole on Isabella. I rode it and didn't see one but I wonder if they covered it with steel plate and now finally getting around to fixing it?
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that firehouse doesn't belong to the city they are leasing it correct?
ReplyDeleteIt seems Mr Jefferson must have an "inside scoop". Something similar to a cover up! He talks as if the Riverplace is a done deal. I thought this was a project that was undecided at this point??? Let's see, we have a completed condo that they can't sell so they are reducing the price and paying one year of the mortgage. They have another condo that isn't complete, but it's being sold at auction, and now they want to take over the North Prong with the idea, "If we build it they will come!" That's like buying Berlin property because it will be "Ocean Front" if and when a huge storm comes!
ReplyDeleteATTENTION, ATTENTION! NAYLOR MILL ROAD HAS A WEIGHT RESTRICTED BRIDGE. GVW 67,000 LBS.
ReplyDeleteWhat is GVW on the fire equipment?
