America Headed for Breakup?

A few weeks ago I gave a historical account about how the eastern shore of Maryland had attempted a secession move from the western shore. Remember how I pointed out that the Delaware legislature unanimously gave their consent to have us unite under their umbrella.

And then more recently, again, Lowell Stoltzfus sponsored State legislation for secession in an attempt to have us decide our own fate through self-determination. Don't think this is something that was just conjured-up on a whim. It holds validity. Joe has repeated pointed out on this very blog the vast disparity in DE Real Estate property taxes verses Maryland not to mention the sales tax issue. And I can tell you first hand that I hear about these issues from my own customers on a daily basis.

Well tonight, Glen Beck will have a special on how our fellow countrymen view the prospect of a severed States. Texas never wanted to become part of our Union and that view is held widely even up to this very day.

Could Maryland's eastern shore be the very first State to declare its independence? Rifts are growing in California whereby Governor Schwarzenegger wants more of the Federal pie. So also in New York. And even here on the eastern shore when I ask the Comptroller's office for a formula to show how much of the sales tax collections are being returned back into our locality - Wicomico - they say it is also often requested from other jurisdictions . . .but nothing is ever provided to give an accurate accounting. Instead, tensions continue to mount.

On Today's Glen Beck Program Is America headed for a breakup? A Russian analyst has predicted that the United States will decline and divide into separate parts, according to the Drudge Report. Glenn has talked about the rising disenfranchisement in the country and how states aren't necessarily bound to stick around -- is it possible for states to start bailing? Glenn shows how he thinks the new country will look in this amazing illustration. Read the transcript.

  1. I believe the term you are referring to is "secession". The word succession has an entirely different meaning. If you want to appear credible, the least you should do is use correct English. Perhaps that's part of the problem with America, or should I say Americans, today?

  2. The event you are referring to was to make the DelMarVa a State of its own in the 1800's

The railroads and the DuPonts killed that deal.

  3. Yeah right. It would never happen. As the woman working in Edwards said "I wish they would blow up the Bay Bridge". I told her she wouldnt have a job if they did-she didnt have an answer. Sober up would ya?

  5. I would never want to seccede from the union but Md YES. I have always felt there are a lot of benefits if DELMARVA was a state. We have rediculous laws that govern the pennisula. for example Three state police forces DNR MVA etc? It makes sense to have "common laws" on the pennisula. I would not seccede from the union, Which is the way the story reads. I wuld favor restructure of the shore though!!!

  6. This is ridiculous...Most of the counties on Maryland's Eastern Shore get more than $1 in state investment for every $1 paid in taxes. As I recall, the two exceptions are Worcester and Talbot. Everyone else - it's financially smart to move all those taxes paid by the Metro Core and move them here to the Shore.

  7. Should the wealthy Montgomery County folks join the wealthier District of Columbia? Should Charles and St. Mary's counties lump into rural Virginia? How about Washington and Garrett Counties, would they be happier joining adjacent West Virginia? This idea is silly, and outdated.

Shore lifers may consider the so-called Western Shore to be a completely different planet, but guess what folks? The rest of Maryland isn't like that, they see the Shore and Delmarva as just another part of the state, under the same flag. Nobody gets their panties in a wad about this across the Bridge.

These secession-happy idiots, incl Sen Lowell! need to let it go and move on with our lives. We are all Marylanders. Be proud of your state.

  9. Yeah because the eastern shore mentality would work under common law. You can't even get agreement on this board, how would new laws be made? And again, the eastern shore is loaded with corruption based on last names. You have one fo theses certain last names and your set everyone else goes to jail or pays big fines. I would have to bail the state if they did that. Also as for the bay bridge comments, how you going to go to John Hopkins or any of the real hospitals?" You really trust PRMC for your medical needs?

  11. I can see there are quite a few politicians posting this morning.

If the eastern shore of Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia, seceeds, and forms their own State, then they'll be out of a job as a Maryland Delegate. As for Mulkulski, and Cardin, they'll be out of territory to. As for Janet Dudley Eshbach, SU's El Presidento, she'll be forced to make new alliances also to try and keep the train station open.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

  12. RE: 10:18 Posting whereby the eastern shore gets more than 1$ in State aid for every $1 in State taxes.

You're full of crap. Who do you think you're trying to fool here. The last time our group tried to ascertain this information no one from the Comptrollers office could answer this question. And we ask it frequently. This is tantamount to the equation for a secession movement.

  13. It would never happen because it probably would become a Republican state.
