One commenter made a statement yesterday in which I agree with 100%. IF our Government gives the Auto Makers ANY money, DO NOT purchase an American made car again.
There is absolutely ONE way to show our Government WE do have some control over OUR money. Screw them, don't buy American cars and that will show those SOB's we're NOT going to take it any more.
Oh sure, there's going to be critics stating this suggestion will only screw ourselves but you know what, we're screwed any way. Our Government has no right using our own money to finance companies that screwed themselves.
Look, GM is claiming they're losing $2 billion a month right now. Come on Folks. How the hell, after 100+ years of manufacturing, can this company, who also sells a TON of financing, be in debt for some $2 Billion a month?
Oh, that's right, the VP probably got a $1 Billion SELL OUT when he resigned and YOU are going to pay for it.
Buy a Toyota, Honda or any other non American vehicle. After all, they're not built like sh!t like American cars and they'll last 250,00 miles in a heart beat.
Show your Government you're not going to take this crap any more and buy a Toyota or Honda and you'll be happier in the end anyway. Yes, I know most of them are assembled in America but they're NOT the ones asking for $25 Billion!
absolutely the most vile post I have seen in a while. The UAW is most of the problem.. they have raped the big 3 and most recently said they won't help anymore. Get rid of the unions and the companies will be fine
ReplyDeleteDID you see that GE is going to receive 139 BILLION dollars now from the Democrat congress? Can you guess who owns MSNBC and CNBC and NBC??? you know the media that gets a tingle up their legs for Obama? Refuse to buy GE products as well. Did you see Weather Underground bomber William Ayers on GMA?? How he described Obama as a "family friend??Did you see that the Democrats want a "secret Ballot" to decide Liebermans fate but open UNION ballots? Did you see that all of the big Unios gave big bucks to Barack, now its payback time to the UAW.
ReplyDeleteUnion auto workers average over $78.00 per hour need I say more! GM's retirement health plan is yhe largest purchaser of viagra over 17 million spent last year.
ReplyDeleteIt's payback time, but unfortunately it's coming out of our pockets, wether we like it, voted for it or not.
ReplyDeleteThe Democrats owe their election to Big Unions and environmentalists help & funds. The dems passed $25 billion for the car industry, not to help the bottom line, but to help promote "green" stuff...
Now it's the UAW's turn to hammer down the Democrats door to collect their repayment and their share of the handouts.
Honestaby
The president of the UAW stated that they would make NO concessions.
ReplyDeleteIn the southern part of our country
auto manufacturers are doing quite well. These companies are in "right to work" states.
Survival of the fittest- nobody wants a gas guzzling domestic. My 3/4 ton Toyota Tundra gets better gas mileage, will run longer and looks better than any 3/4 domestic pick-up. What incentives do the big three have? A fuel efficient compact that gets 30 MPG? Sorry, honda and toyota were doing that even before hybrid technology was uncovered. Screw the big three...time for Henry Ford to turn over in his grave....
ReplyDeleteYou get rid of the Unions and it will return this country into a competetive market. Unions also contribute to the rising inflation beyond our means.
ReplyDeleteHow soon we all forget that John McCain was also in favor of the bail out. He and many other republicans voted for the Bailout after another $200 Billion in PORK was added to the bill! This issue isn't about Democrates or Republicans, it's about ALL of them not being in touch with us! This past election, I voted against EVERY incumbant! I will continue to do that as long as they continue to misrepresent US! If you think about it, it's like a Boston Tea Party. When they vote against what their consituants want, then we are being Taxed Without Representation! Whether it's CEO's, Labor Unions or both doesn't matter. What matters is OUR reprentatives are supposed to do as WE ask. If they don't, lets put someone in that position that will! Just like Jim Ireton said, he will always remember he is spending OUR money, not his!
ReplyDeleteWell I want a bailout package from the automakers. My cars have some age(94 and 98 models) and like the automakers,I may have spent more money than I made so ......if my tax dollars are gonna keep them in the black, they owe me a new car!
ReplyDeleteSeriously,we are in agreement on this one-auto workers at US Toyota and Honda plants make about $20 an hour, which are GREAT wages for the Southern states they are located in,yet while those guys make 1/4 the pay of BIG 3 workers, they produce better, more reliable and definitely less expensive vehicles. How is that?Hmmm.....I am forever sold on Hondas anyway-with the right care and maintainence, you can drive one of those suckers for 300k or more!
Dear Authentic Republican,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post. It was enlightening and exciting. I see no flaw, but my further question is regarding 8:36's comment that UAW employees are at $78.00/hr. Now, when I take my car to the shop, it's $70.00+ an hour, adjusted to Detroit may be $78.00, but I'm paying a small business of 10-15 employees that rate. Henry Ford invented the assembly line to bring prices DOWN in a big business.
This leaves room for wholesale and retail profit. But if the pre-wholesale price is already at the retail level, where does that leave the wholesaler, shipper, and retailer?
Any thoughts?

Adding to my last post
ReplyDeleteThe mechanics at the repair garage don't earn the $70, that's the shop charge. They get paid by the work they perform out of the Motor/ Chilton's rate book; probably around $20-25.

>>comment that UAW employees are at $78.00/hr...
ReplyDeleteTotal, current.
Includes pensioners, all medical costs etc.
New hires under the new UAW contract begin at 14 an hour and the pension, like most companies today, is non-existent with the manufacturers offering various savings plans and so forth instead.
Toyota's at 43 (total, inclusive of all benefits etc.) or so - BUT they have no retirees expenses to contend with.
Further, they (Toyota et al) built brand new factories from the ground up which are far easier (read: "cheaper") to keep up to snuff as it regards OSHA, EPA, etc.
Now that the big 3 have made massive investments in refurbishing their old plants and have built several new ones as well' plus their product quality is FINALLY world class (it unquestionably took too long...but they're there none-the-less) it would be stupid to let them go under.
BUT just handing them cash won't sell a single car or truck and that's what they and their suppliers really need - sales velocity.
It's our tax dollars they are asking for, you think they are going to give me a break on a new car or truck?
ReplyDeleteIf that bailout is approved then this bailout total is going to cost the taxpayers close to a Trillion dollars and there will be no trickle down.
What about after Christmas when a ton of big retailers threaten to close the doors? Bail them out too? I know someone that works at the Centre and he told me quite a few stores in the mall are shutting there doors after the holidays.
Union auto workers average over $78.00 per hour need I say more! GM's retirement health plan is yhe largest purchaser of viagra over 17 million spent last year.

Where do you get this info? 78$ per hour? So these people on an assembly line are making 1.3 million a year?? Give me a break.
I think you are totally wrong and would like to see where you got that number from. Maybe you are including the CEO's in your average salary. Think your number is way wacked.
JIM
Jim $78.00 an hour x 2000 hours = $160,000 +-, where did you get your math. You work for Chief See, or the Mare?
ReplyDelete9:19am, your tundra gets worse gas mileage than a GMC sierra/chevy silverado.
ReplyDeletehate to break it to you.
And actually the G5/cobalt get 38mpg.
chrysler, well i cant stick up for. the only thing they have going for them is the Viper. :)
>>Union auto workers average over $78.00 per hour need ..
ReplyDeleteNo - they COST over 70 bucks an hour.
That number includes all benefits and legacy pension expenses as well.
The UAW has already made major concessions and it all changes starting now and rolling through 2010.
A new hire now starts at 14 an hour.
I have no problem with blaming the unions ......except the facts keep getting in the way.
Jim was confused he read the bubba-nomic's version of math fo dummies. and don't forget the union takes a good bite out of auto workers pay for union dues.
ReplyDeleteReally doesn't take a rocket scientist either, some just spend the whole day putting tires on one side of the car, you can teach a chimp to do that
Jim $78.00 an hour x 2000 hours = $160,000 +-, where did you get your math. You work for Chief See, or the Mare?

You are correct... sorry... I must have multiplied daily amount times 40 hrs instead of 5n or something. But that is still a lot of money being paid to assembly line workers. And yes I know a lot goes to Union dues... but what does the Union actually offer? That is a whole other post and debate.
Again... sorry about my numbers.
