Referencing my ealier Post about Salisbury University and the brawl at Monkey Barrel.
"Well I liek the fact that you pass this extremely biased man as a credible news source.
1) Salisbury University contributes over $350 million annually to the Lower Eastern Shore economy and generates the equivalent of 3,000 local jobs, according to an economic impact study recently released.
-SO howabout The City should pay the university to stay here.
-thats very nice of of us concidering Wicomico County is one of the poorest counties in the country
2) With your way of thinking, Maybe the city of Salisbury should get charged for all of the gangs going to Ocean city and starting fights. When a 400 person brawl breaks out in a nightclub in Ocean City Between 2 rival Salisbury gangs, The city of Salisbury should be charged.
3)Howabout everytime a student gets robbed at gunpoint, they charge the city for thier losses.
Here is what the rest of the world thinks about your Beloved City
http://www.homesurfer.com/crimereports/view/crime_report.cfm?state=MD&area=Salisbury
"Salisbury, Maryland is in the 100% percentile rank in the state for Violent Crime. It is in the 99% percentile rank nationally. Lower numbers are better. In this case, 100% of cities in Maryland have crime rates equal to or lower than Salisbury, or said another way, 0% of cities in Maryland have crime rates higher than Salisbury."
--NOONE WOULD LIVE HERE IF THE UNIVERSITY WAS NOT HERE
get off your high horse and thank every college student you see for making an economy here.
Yoru super credible sources fo rthis news outlet are totally wrong because Salisbury University was AWAY. AWAY. Not here, I doubt they invited the opposing team to travel back to salisbury after the ROAD victory 48-17. So who knows what else is wrong in this article.
I am not saying the fight was right, And lawbreakers should be punished. But stop bashing students, and look at how violent your own population is. Salisbury is a dangerous city to live in because students are blamed for everything and murderers walk the streets.
Your broke county and city steal our money, through police, targeting us because we have money while locals go to court for armed robbery, use public defenders dont pay thier court fees, and walk loose.
I would love to debate you."
HAVE AT IT PEOPLE.............
Dog gone Joe. . .did you see the crime results for Salisbury?
ReplyDeleteIt is totally off the charts. It is so high that it's not even on the scale.
No wonder you posted 'Snake Plissken' the other day. Traversing through Salisbury truly is just like in the movie 'Escape from New York'.
You better not go slow thru salisbury
ReplyDeleteSU is one of the most important things this area has to offer.. It has facilities that kids get to use for camps, events, etc.. We are extraordinarily lucky to have 2 wonderful Colleges.
ReplyDeleteWith this comes some issues, but We as a whole would be quite different without them. They are never going anywhere anyways.. so the people who hate the colleges.... get over it
Go SU!!!!
Ummm . . . SU students don't have money.
ReplyDeleteThey may THINK they do, but the kids of parents with REAL money don't go there.
Think private, well-respected academic schools . . . locally Washington College comes to mind.
No comparison between those kids and the low-life wannabes at SU.
If a student really wrote this, then it seems SU is doing a pretty poor job educating these kids in the basics of English usage. You'd think that a college student would know how to spell and use punctuation and grammar correctly.
ReplyDeleteSign your name if you want to debate.
ReplyDeleteBarrie Tilghman has a crime task force and all will be well.
ReplyDeleteGo put some more money on daddys credit card little anonymous one.
ReplyDeleteOK, the crime here is off the charts. If you know what percentile rankings are, you would know that Salisbury is more dangerous then Baltimore.
ReplyDeleteI dont understand what "You better not go slow thru salisbury" means cause the drivers here are rarely drive above the speed limit on 13.
I do have money, my own money. I work full time and take out STUDENT LOANS. however, I don't steal from people. regardless if the average students parents pay for them or not. The city still steals from us from the top down to the street criminal.
I am sorry I did not proof read my post, and I was ranting, not sitting down making a serious paper. Also my spell check doesn't work on my internet explorer. Your does. I dont know you, but I know you misspell words too.
This littel anonomous one is actually a big anonomous one, and I do not have my daddy's credit card, I have my own. I am a man, and a bigger one then you. I don't steal.
I also realized that I present facts as opposed to rants.
Noone can refute the fact that the college is a diamond out here in this place. The new TETC building is an amazing structure making the city look better.
So my family came to visit me a home invasion and an armed robbery attempt ago, and what is the first thing they see getting off 50BUS and getting onto 13? A porno shop. Wow, really good looking cornerstone of Salisbury civilization.
This citizen seems to understand what I am saying http://www.delmarvadealings.com/2008/08/12/salisbury-council-feels-your-pain-when-it-comes-to-crime/
Yeah, Barrie Tilghman's crime task force that consists of three cop cars with two cops in each car rolling around breaking up parties. I am glad she used that dead prostitute as an excuse to make that. What a joke.
Joe,
ReplyDeleteYou would think that someone in college would know how to use spell check at the very least!
Personally, I would like to see the "good old days" where if someone were trashing my property, regardless of monetary, political or student status, they would be met by the business end of a hand gun and made to clean up the mess they were making or had made.
If the writer of this post is indeed a SU student, he/she should be in remedial middle school.
Is this another fine example of the quality of the SU students? Does money buy that diploma? or being a jock guarantee graduation.
To Anonymous 3:13
Yes, we do have two very fine colleges here in Salisbury. My question is how much of that crime is attributed to SU students? How much to WorWic students? We don't seem to hear of or see headlines or articles about WorWic students causing fights, trashing neighborhoods, or vandalizing homes and cars now do we? Maybe we should be posting headlines...... "No WorWic student involved in crimes this week." I would be willing to bet that the majority of WorWic students were local folks and had been taught some manners, responsibility as opposed to the individuals at SU.
Of all the quoted jobs that SU provides, how many are local people? I would bet not a majority. So, go back across the bridge with the come heres and the students who are less than mature in mentality and actions.
How 'bout the college just go ahead and MOVE.
ReplyDelete4:37. I feel sorry your parents couldn't afford to send you to a BETTER school-in fact they cheaped out on you altogether didn't they? Had to take out the old student loans, huh? Did your parents drink or gamble (unwise mortgages/car loans/living too far above their means counts)away your college money? Otherwise you could have gone to a good Div 1 school (but we all know your grades and athletic talent MISSED BY THAT MUCH anyway didn't they?)No wonder you appear so bitter and agitated with your caveman retort. I am hoping you do well and break the cycle so you don't cheap out on your own kids and send them to live in such a "sewertown." But if you do, at least know you can always find a little relief because you obviously know where the porn shops are. Now go study (oh, man. Boy was THAT funny)little fella'!!
ReplyDeleteOk who is this moron that posted this? I hope they are not a student at SU, your spelling is HORRIBLE. Go back to grade school and learn how to spell simple words like THEIR and maybe someone will debate you once you pass your 3rd grade spelling test. If you want people to take you serious... BE SMART or at least look like you are
ReplyDeleteI think the President of SU should be called every time there is an issue with college students...they should go pick her up and take her to the gatherings so she can she see first hand what fine upstanding citizens SU has brought to this community. I don't owe any college student a damned thing....they don't own property in this county and don't pay major taxes to keep SU open and going.
ReplyDeleteIs this an arguement?
ReplyDeleteOK, I already admitted I did not use spell checker. I love when people's arguments involve bashing me, as opposed to argueing the fact that over the years Salisbury has destroyed itself as a town.
I am not a jock. Just sick of college students being targeted when there are much larger, more dangerous issues at stake. I will graduate, and I will be an accountant.
I dont know if handgun use is warranted for some trash cleanup. I have not trashed anyones lawn. However, I would rather clean up a can on every saturday morning for the rest of my life then get robbed at gunpoint in salisbury again, or have my hosue broken into and have my valuables stolen. Or any of my friends, American citizens, get jumped, and beaten half to death, robbed, houses broken into. I think thise experiences are a little more traumatic then your beer can story.
And if you look at National Averages, Salisbury residents are not more polite. This is satistically the most dangerous city on Maryland.
WorWic is a commuter, 2 year community college. Having not moved out of your mothers house yet, I am betting that given the oportunity, you are different when not under direst parental supervision, even if you are over 18, or 24 or whatever.
I will agree, WorWic Students probably do not get into as much trouble as Salisbury students.
The local population of Salisbury is dangerous.
Yeah, just like the SPD contacts the Mayor every time something goes wrong. NOT! Hell, they haven't even found the murderer from 2 months ago. Anything with Salisbury attached to it is a loser.
ReplyDeleteoh my lord. You people are nuts! Most students that go to Wor Wic transfer to SU and party at the Zoo with those students etc. Everyone immediately associates 'college students' with Salisbury students. Not everyone who attends the University is from 'over the bridge' in fact there a plenty of locals that attend there. Not all the students are spoiled brats that have mommy and daddy paying for it all. So how dare you take away the dignity of those that work and put themselves through school. You all are simply talking out of pure ignorance. I am sure the murders, rapists, and hoodrats robbing places aren't college students. They are the uneducated SCUM that roam our streets. The college is good for this area. Don't be such a prick and put yourself on thrown and say you have NEVER done something that falls under the 'young and dumb' category.
ReplyDelete6:34. That was the best laugh I had all day. The good news is if your math skills are in the same league as your spelling skills, the IRS audit workers will all be able to afford skyboxes at the Redskins game. BTW, Socrates, if you read this blog you would understand most of us acknowledge that our city was sold out from under us by others. That is why when you bring your smarmy little out-of-town boy opinion in here without knowing your audience, you are going to get your head handed to you every time. WE are working on our problems.....that is where YOU come in today.
ReplyDelete"Put yourself on a thrown." (Spellchecker won't help you if you are this ignorant-you spelled it right, just used the wrong word).Did you break your crayon writing that? I try to stay away from name calling here, but you guys are making yourselves look like idiots.
ReplyDelete"I already admitted I did not use spell checker."
ReplyDeleteThat's what's wrong with kids nowadays (and I say that as someone who is in his thirties). You shouldn't need to use spell checker. You should know how to spell simple words like "arguing" or "anonymous". You should know that "regardless if the average students parents pay for them or not." is not a complete sentence. You should know that the possessive of "anyone" is "anyone's" not "anyones".
There is a large difference between a typo and a failure to master spelling or grammar at a college level. It's pathetic that SU is graduating students that can't write a correct paragraph unless they have spell checker or grammar check.
That's because it's John Robinson. He hates cops and always stands up for students and can't spell to save his life.
ReplyDeleteI wish that when someone raised valid points, they could do it without profanity or horrible spelling. It doesn't do well for that side of the argument when you can't be concise when you present it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my point is, I think I actually agree with this poster's original thought. It is annoying to see that so many of the city's downfalls are blamed on the college, as if the college itself can be held responsible for the actions of its students. I don't believe its reasonable to charge the school when its students cause problems that require local law enforcement. Many of these students are accepted into this school with nothing more than test scores and high school transcripts, which will do nothing to indicate the quality of character. If the student does nothing to violate campus policy, yet violates the law in the community, the school can't be held responsible for that...Not if the laws and policies remain the way they are now. Its just not reasonable to expect.
Don't get me wrong--I've expressed my opinions on college students' misbehaviors plenty of times (even on this blog). I believe that the sense of entitlement felt by today's youth is absurd. The rowdiness exhibited by individuals should justifiably be blamed on those individuals...but to blame the institution itself, or hold it responsible, simply isn't reasonable.
Students--during your stay you need to realize that you are only here temporarily. We are here permanently, and our taxes contribute significantly to your education and for some, your room and board. We are (well, some of us anyway) happy to have you here and wish you all the best in your education, and as you journey into the world. BUT SERIOUSLY, you are here as our guests. When you are a guest in your grandma's house, do you get trashed, blast her music and toilet paper her front lawn? No, chances are, you are humble, polite and dare I say it, helpful. Whether we have atrocious statistics or not, I'd hope that you could treat the city that I and my children live in with the same amount of respect.
Salisbury University would like to thank all the taxpayers in Maryland, especially the rich who have the money to send their children to "better colleges and universities." SU doesn't want a bunch of rich punks, the parents are assholes and want special treatment.
ReplyDeleteThe State takes your taxes and gives it to Maryland Colleges and Universities, so the less fortunate can receive a cheaper education. So, to all of you who continue to put SU down, SU could give a rat ass about your opinion, just keep paying your taxes, so my kid can party, use those great facilities and get a degree at a very good price! SUCKERS!
Are you kidding me "debate this"? Get your A$$ off your little throne and realize that almost every stereotype you cram into your small minded comments is far from the truth. I am an SU student who grew up in this area and who also pays his own way to college not because his parents "drank away" his college fund but because my parents both have both been full time workers to help our family have a decent life. Like it or not SU is staying and how about instead of thinking your God's gift to man you and the rest of the folks out there who have grown up here and are still here find some ways to keep the kids here who have graduated from SU. Why do you think all the students are heading back over the bridge? Opportunity is why nurses, doctors, teachers and other skills that are valued these days are headed that way. There needs to be reasons to stay if families are spending in upwards of 65,000 dollars over 4 years ( just about as much as your "good D-1 schools" you mentioned). So before you go off on SU students, making unintelligent and idiotic remarks, the city including yourself a recipient of the services in this area, need to find ways to make this area worth staying in for students after graduating to start a family and build a life. So please before you make those stereotypical and poor comments why don't you think about separating yourself from the scum you talk about.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, more immature posting from immature and idiotic people. And for those of you who speak of spelling and grammar, check your own posts. To dahlia, learn the difference between its and it's. Though you had the most sensible comment, it was not necessary to comment on grammar considering you can't do it correctly yourself. The rest of you are just miserable people who should be ashamed of yourselves. No matter how low the original poster went, you went lower and once again proved that you are worthless.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so ashamed of myself, what on earth should I do? My spelling and grammer are not good and I'm idiotic. Well, I guess I'll go to Wor-Wic for two years and transfer to SU. It's a blog, not english class you ass.
ReplyDelete7:56. If you continue to confirm "across the bridge is where the real action is," what does that say about YOU who couldn't cut the mustard there and had to stay in the ghetto to get an education. You guys got on this blog last Spring spouting the same bovine crap after the LAX incident about how WE are wrong, and athletes don't do things like this, but we promise it will never never never happen again!! I told you that you were full of bat guano then too-You drunken losers didn't even make it to Columbus Day before you acted like community jack-offs again. Keep it up-pick the wrong porch/pool to intrude upon. You are oviously way to dumb and cocky to realize when you are in over your head here. By the way I am an alumni twice who will not send another nickel/perform a pro bono service until I see some genuine contrition and respect from your President and athletic staffs; their ignorance is unexcusable and possibly grounds for dismissal. I was around a lot of your LAX champs from many moons ago-many got fat, slow, someone pregnant out of wedlock and ended up living back with their parents at 30 as assistant to the assistant cashier at Target. In case you haven't been catching international headlines between Playstation matches, the world/nation is a cold-blooded place. My words may be hard for you to hear, but they are nothing like what your first bosses (if you can find the job first), your first wife's divorce lawyer, the mortgage lender threatening foreclosure on you and Uncle Sugar's tax/student loan goons will do to you if you don't get your head out of the "denial toilet" and acknowledge reality, responsibility and contrition when you are faced with any losing argument (hint hint). None of us around here owe you a damn thing-I want SU to stay.....I just welcome the screen door hitting you in the ass in the same fashion it hit the Reisman kid who thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. A well respected local figure here, Mr. Tim Chaney, and at least a (few) dozen others of us have been up in the grill of the mayor, council and law enforcement to help solve our common problems. That poor man is correct in his comment here today, they treat him like a tool and minimize/completely ignore the same concerns you also see about our city. Get your little debate team together and find out when the next city council meeting is in the Salisbury GOB. We need your population to stand up as young adults and have the onions to speak out in the proper forum for yourselves. Otherwise, you are just sour little whiners that are keyboard tough guys with poor command of English/writing/spelling and every weekend you make our city problems worse because we have to commit what little police we have because you little boys have bitch-slapping matches because your wieners/brains are too small to actually engage in civilized debate/conversation that would head off these border line riots. Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.
ReplyDeleteSo again its OK to break the law if you are "educated" unlike "local scum"?Thats fair...NOT!
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE NEEDS TOP GET OFF THE GRAMMAR STUFF. ITS A BLOG NOT AN ESSAY OR ARTICLE. TO THE SU STUDENT, AS A COME HERE AND ALUMNI OF SU YOU GUYS DO NOT KNOW WHEN TO QUIT. WHEN YOU TAKE PITIFUL ARGUMENTS UP ON THE WEB AND YOU HAVE SPORTS TEAMS, SUPPOSED TO BE REPRESENTATIVE OF YOUR SCHOOL, ACTING LIKE DELINQUENT CHILDREN, THATS WHY THERE IS SUCH A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON STUDENTS IN GENERAL. IF YOU WERE IN THE MAJORITY OF BEHAVED STUDENTS, YOU WOULD DISTANCE YOURSELVES FROM THE SCUM KIDS. THE SCUMS THAT DO THIS STUFF ARE NO BETTER THEN THE SCUMS OF SALISBURY YOU POINTED OUT IN THE STATISTICS. CRIME IS CRIME NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL. I KNWO FOR A FACT THAT YOU HAVE AN ORIENTATION AT SU WHERE THEY TELL YOU ALL ABOUT THE LOCAL POLICE AND ZERO TOLERANCE FOR PARTIES. APPARENTLY THE "EDUCATED" KIDS CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE BEING "HASSELED" FOR PARTIES. DID YOU NOT LISTEN AT ORIENTATION?
ReplyDelete@ Anon 3:13. Washington College comes to mind? That's rather pitiful. But I agree that your premise is correct. Kids who go to SU likely come from families with more wealth than the average Salisburian, but any family with real wealth would kill their child before sending them to Salisbury. That is the truth. It really is. Rich kids do not go to Salisbury. And while SU may have a few bright students, outstanding students would never consider Salisbury.
ReplyDeleteYou cannot get a serious job with a degree from Salisbury. I dare someone to defy me.
To 8:43, my reason for staying here was physical limitations. So believe me if I physically could have gone somewhere else believe me I would have, thanks. So keep up the ignorance and inflation of your ego by putting down SU students like we are all the same. Remember Sir you were once young, stupid and carefree so when your making your life seem better by blaming us, you were once us. So please, continue your little parade about SU kids being incompetent, uneducated and ignorant but realize that your bantering extends to a very few number of students
ReplyDeletegods gift to man,
ReplyDeleteYou made my day. Well said.
8:19-- Fair enough, BUT:
ReplyDeleteMy point (which I still fully stand behind whether I properly used punctuation or not) is that if you want people to take you seriously when you have an unpopular opinion is that if you do it in a way that doesn't butcher the english language, people will tend to respect that opinion more.
Just food for thought. It was NOT an attack, simply my way of saying that if you're going to make a good and valid point, do it in a way that people will respect it rather than attack you for not being so bright in the first place. (And before you get upset and say that I just called you dumb, I was making a generalization that was not specific to you simply to illustrate a point.)
Moving on...
omg.... I need to wear the moron badge today. Apparently I'm a bug dummy and I can't even write without butchering the english language myself. HAHAHA!!!
ReplyDeleteI give up!
8:17. Bullshit-You don't think Duke/College Park/SUNY have like 50ADA compliance monitors? Why don't you come up to Bethesda Naval Hospital and see how true heros deal with severe physical limitations after IEDs have blown their legs off. If you Google it, consultants are working to modify golf carts so that veterans WITH NO LEGS can play a round of golf (their seat in the cart extends and revolves around so once they find their ball they can hit it-they would still wear out your pathetic little ass). So now you are saying Salisbury is in fact so good at accomodating your disability? Maybe you should shut up and write the town a thank-you note.I told you once before-when you come in here with a bs agrument and no facts to back it up we are going to hand your head to you. Wanna' play again?
ReplyDeletei know several graduates of SU with serious jobs. don't hate. congratulate.
ReplyDeleteAnon 4:37
ReplyDeleteIf you had money, you wouldn't have student loans. . . Duh. . .
God's gift really? You talk sh!t like you know my life. I never said anything about the school being the limit and yes i have heard about the cart any many other things that I live on a daily basis so before you go judging my life how about how my arguments are BS try and not be a jacka$$ with everything you say. Im sick of "real life" people thinking kids are so disconnected with the world and that just because some kids live off mommy and daddy does not mean we are all the same, but hey it is ok, you can keep going acting like you are truly above myself but as they always say, poeple in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. So congratulations you choose some good adjectives out of you small vocabulary and threw together a small mind opinion that seemed to lack any hint of a solution. I concede is that better? Maybe mommy and daddy can help my dry my tears?
ReplyDelete3:10. Sorry I am a little late with my reply. I couldn't find the Squee-gee to clean my glass house prior to the rock throwing festival. You seem a little bitter-run on sentences are a sign your emotions have exceeded your set of facts. I am sorry the truth stings so bad. But don't feel bad-you are a small fish to me. I get into "REAL people's" heads for a living. You aren't the first person I've made cry in public and consider eating their own tongue. Before you take on my intense vocabulary again (that I can also translate into Spanish and German)continue to work on your little spelling and grammar skills. It will make your Mommy and Daddy so so proud. Have fum with the jocks at the "Hungry Hungry Hippo" tournament tonight.
ReplyDeleteblogging's great and all to bring the issues to light. but if all you people do on here is complain without acting, you're doomed to be complaining for years to come. nothing will come without action.
ReplyDelete
