Suspect: 3 Juveniles
On Oct 8, 2008 at approximately 8:00 a.m., Parkside School Resource Deputy observed a fight in the lower locker area at Parkside High School. Three female juveniles were engaged in a physical altercation in a crowd of approximately 100 students. The School Resource Deputy attempted to separate the 3 subjects from fighting with no success. School Resource Deputy asked, advised and ordered the 3 female juveniles to stop fighting or they would be pepper sprayed. The combatants refused to stop fighting and the School Resource Deputy dispersed a one second blast of pepper spray to separate the female juveniles. All juvenile combatants separated and this allowed the School Resource Deputy to effect an arrest on one of the suspects. A second suspect attempted to attack the arrested party and was sprayed with a one second blast of pepper spray. The second suspect fled Parkside High School. A third participant was charged in the incident.
EMS was contacted to check the welfare of a bystander and Teacher who complained of feeling the residual effects of pepper spray. Neither treated were in direct contact with the participants during the fight. One student (bystander) was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment.
Two female juveniles were arrested on site. Both juveniles were released to the school administration pending charges through the Department of Juvenile Services. A third female is still at large pending location and charges.

It is good to see that the pepper spray was used properly in high school. All to often it is over used and causes a large amount of damage. It is great to see this officer had the discretion to use it properly.
ReplyDeleteBeals just came off a 3 year probationary period for assault. Looks like he's going to go away this time, should he be found guilty.
ReplyDeleteI think the pepper spray will send a message to kids that they should not fight in school Way to go Deputy Bowers.
