Mayors Crime Task Force Take 2
Yesterday afternoon the 2nd meeting of the Mayors Crime Task Force took place. It wasnt advertised on the city website for some reason, but was open to the public. Committee members talked about what they're hearing from the public, suspicion that the task force is window dressing or just another layer of bureaucracy. Councilwoman Debbie Campbells subcommittee group took charge with unveiling of a crime task force website http://www.salisburycrime.blogspot.com/ and a powerpoint presentation that is available on the site of highlights from her 3 neighborhood walks and discussions with local residents. When it looked like things were going to turn into more talk and no action Debbie Campbell said "If that's what you're planning to do then maybe this isn't the best place for me because my constituents are tired of crime and expect to see some real action." Already actions have taken place do to her subcommittees hard work, 600 west railroad avenue is going to be inspected to make sure the 23 rented rooms are compliant with safety regulations.
One immediate means of dealing with the crime problem -- make Webster reside in Salisbury, starting now, and replace him ASAP.
ReplyDeleteAnother: adopt recommendations that Davis Ruark and Mike Lewis have made to the City for many months now.
Until Barrie Tilghman ceases to be the Mayor, neither will happen -- and that will also be the case if Comegys becomes mayor next year.
Go Debbie Campbell, this city would not function HONESTLY without you..
ReplyDeleteWhat I have to say about the MARE cannot be printed. But Horse's A$$ is part of it.
It's about time someone in the GOB took action against the crime in this city. Kudos to Coucilwomen Cambell and her subcommitee for doing more than just talking. I find it interesting that this is the "Mayor's task force" yet she has not bothered to show up for either of their two meetings.
ReplyDeleteWe have all heard too often in Salisbury that there's no crime or that levels are low...that's only if you adopt the position of the blind leading the blind through a dark alley. All one has to do is look around downtown and its environs; talk to the policeman on the beat he will dispute the official's mantra. Action is desperately need or Salisbury is going to look like West Baltimore in the late 1980's.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who was in West Baltimore frequently in the late 1980's (and both before and after, too), I can tell you that Salisbury has come to like that during the time (10 years) that Barrie Tilghman has been the mayor.
ReplyDeleteAs long as the city is 80% rental there will always be a high crime rate.
ReplyDeleteLow income housing and rental properties breed crime.
OK, we know what Debbie Campbell and her sub-committee is doing, what is Ryan Ewalts sub-committee doing? What is that other sub-committee doing?
ReplyDelete3:42---nothing as of yesterday's meeting
ReplyDelete410 why doesn't that surprise me?
ReplyDeletebubba won't even make it through the primaries the pos , however I do wonder if wonder boy ewalt is the mare's go to boy after bubba bites the dust?
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie Campbell. At least we have two people that are actual "do'er's" instead of just the usual yada yada yada and nothing ever get's done with the council majority and this administration.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Ewalt head of the crime task force? What area of law enforcement does he have a degree? I guess the skinheads just don't have time.
