Thank you for the crazy left talking points, as usual not being supported by facts only baseless personal attacks. If Obama loses it will be because people like you have deterred voters. You are simply attacking a man who asked Obama a question when a camera was rolling and the candidates have used him as a talking point. You hate Joe the Plumber because he has exposed real American problems and questioned Obama’s tax plan. I feel sorry for you because you wake up everyday hating life.
Joe the Plumber represents real Americans who are proud of their country, believe in hard work, and have learned that nothing is free in life. Joe has taken the high road and has not directly endorsed McCain but endorses his country.
I didn't understand his motivation for asking the question. He doesn't make anywhere near $250,000, he's in no position to buy the plumbing company he works for, heck, he's not even licensed as a plumber. I'm assuming he's working as an apprentice under someone else's license and isn't doing anything illegal. So what was the point of asking that question?
Joe the plumber is a 'real American?" I hope not. Real Americans are not tax cheats, liars (he's about to buy a business--really?), and unlicensed workers in a job that requires a license.
I find it funny the liberals are in such an uproar thinking that Joe the Plumber was a plant but think the mediators that were chosen for the debates were fair and not bias. Jim Lerher, Tom Brocaw, & Bob Shieffer all know liberals as mediators? Lets talk fairness of politics here.
The point of the whole question was (you can take off your tin foil hats now) is that if he were to work hard, buy the company, and make over 250,000 then under Obama's plan he would be taxed more thus giving more of his taxes to people who didn’t work hard. Obama then agreed stating that we “need to spread the wealth around”; the opposing theory is ‘why work hard when you can get it for fee’ thus limiting responsibility and capitalism (the US was founded on the basis of capitalism, in case you didn’t know).
Different counties and states have different rules and regulations regarding licenses. In Joe's jurisdiction only his company needs a license, not Joe individually. The statement about apprenticeship only applies to unions. Joe is not in a union; Joe would have to pay to be in a union. Unions are based on time in the trade and not whether you are better than the next plumber. Unions heavily support Obama and democratic tickets. Most business are not in favor of unions, due to low performance and heavy regulations.
Pay attention in school. Joe did. And now you want to disgrace the man.
Don't know whether Joe needs a license, or can afford to buy his company - but one thing is for sure, if I could make $250,000 a year with a plumbing business, I would not be worried about the taxes.
People who keep saying that "spreading the wealth around" is wrong don't appear to have any knowledge of how government works. How do you think government programs are paid for? From taxes. If the taxes collected go down, so do government programs. Not only the programs for the people who make the less amount of money, but for those who make a lot of money as well. It's not just the middle and lower class who take advantage of government programs but some want to make it seem so. Who do you think gets the tax incentives??? It's not the middle and lower class I assure you. How is the government able to give these incentives? By collecting more taxes from those who pay...including the middle and lower class. Now some of you are going to say the middle and lower class don't pay taxes. I see it coming. You are wrong. They do...I do. I don't have the luxury of hiding my income in order to not pay taxes on it like the upper class does. I don't have the liberty of coming up with all these millions of so called "deductions" like the rich do to avoid paying taxes. I don't have a huge boat to entertain my "friends" on which I can deduct as a business expense and not pay taxes on that money.
While our system is not perfect by any means, it's the way it is. The rich have gotten a free ride long enough.
I say bring on the flat tax..get rid of deductions and everybody pays on what they make, not what they end up with once they've done the trickery on their paperwork.
Joe the Plumber, IF he is real didn't even put forth a real case. It's hilarious that the Republicans are using him the way they are.
Anon 11:04 My apologies you are correct to stay on the topic. Redistribution of wealth is nothing more that socialism by taxation and is not what this great country was founded and built upon. It is a disgrace to our forefathers for what we have become. Joe the Plumbers question was valid and poses a fly in the ointment of Obama's economic plan.
Name an effective government program/agency that doesn't waste millions of taxpayer dollars.
I can only think of one: the IRS.
The problem is not government programs that help people it’s the waste of money within the programs. The reason Republicans are against the programs is due to the waste. For every dollar that goes into a program usually 60 cents is wasted.
Hawaii just announced today that they getting rid of their State Health Care after only seven months. The reason for failure; its too expensive and overwhelming.
Socialism - Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
The steps our government takes in owning a piece or all of our producin or economy is socialism. This is happening right now! Do not let our country slip away! Please, Please, write your representives! Do not vote for people who want this to happen.
anon 11:16 AM I happen to work for a company that would fall into that small business range. Small businesses can't compete with corporate America when it comes to health care benefit costs. When I worked in corporate America I paid $80 every two weeks for health insurance and now i pay $170 per week. Now with that said Obama's plan is going to make it more difficult for me to get a bonus or a raise from my company because there profit is being taken away from them to give to the federal subsidies. I don't want to count on a government handout to pay my health care costs but want the right to earn it on my own. It was my choice to work for a small business and not corporate America which allowed me excel in my line of work, yes at a larger cost for insurance but for the overall good. I'm just tired of the government taking all of our decisions and choices from us.
I too work for a small business and I do not have health insurance. It is not offered because my employer cannot afford to do so. I also cannot afford to get a policy on my own due to the cost. If you can afford 170/wk for your insurance, I doubt you are working for a small business because you have to be making a hell of a lot more than I am to pay that bill.
As far as the cost, it probably had nothing to do with the difference between the size of the employer but had more to do with the increase in rates from the insurance companies. Therefore, I think your post is nonsense.
"I don't have the luxury of hiding my income in order to not pay taxes on it like the upper class does. Maybe if you worked hard and got off welfare you would.
ANON 12:30 - You are misinformed. Once a business reaches a certain size and number of employees(like the one outlined in Obama's plan) they have to provide health insurance benefits. The $170 weekly is for family heath and dental insurance and is deducted pre-tax. Small businesses come in many shapes and sizes so please do not stick me in a general classification. The company I work for has approx. 27 employees and is considered a small business. I afford the $170/week because I am a single parent of 3 (yes I am a man) and it would be irresponsible for me not to have the coverage on my children. If you think the number of employees has nothing to do with the policy negotiation and premium cost you are truly speaking out of your misinformed... Get you facts correct and come back for a chat.
I am not on welfare. I am not on any government aid program. In fact, I work 2 jobs...one FT and one PT.
Why assume so quickly that I'm on welfare? You have to be on welfare to be struggling? Obviously, you must not be struggling and maybe don't know what that is. I certainly do.
Be thankful you make enough to afford 170/wk for insurance. And by the way, most don't even have the luxury of getting dental on top of medical. So what are you complaining about? Seems to be you've done pretty well. I never said the number of employees had something to do with it. Sounds like to me you possibly work for the government yourself either at a local, county or state level. I also never said anything related to Obama's plan being perfect or inperfect. I don't think either of them have a plan that will work. A tax credit certainly isn't gonna help anyone if they can't afford to pay the premiums to begin with. In my post, I did not attack anyone but some seem fit to attack me. That's part of what's wrong with this country...people can't even talk anymore and express their opinions without being attacked. So much for freedom of speech.
No matter what you think of "Joe the Plumber" he sure has gotten everyones attention for now. He said he was going to buy the company, because that is his dream for the future. Let the guy dream and work towards what he hopes to get, whether he's a Democrat or a Republican. What difference does that make? But John did get plenty of milage out of him.
Remember, it was New Hampshire, Mitt Romney's state (by the way a Republican) who implemented the mandatory health coverage. Tell me that was the right thing to do. Neither party has a plan that will work...let's face it. Either the employer gets mandated or the citizens get mandated. Neither is good in my book.
Remember Clinton's line-"Duh, it's the economy stupid." Well, it's not about Joe the Plumber. It's about alot of people like Joe looking to make their "American Dream" come true. I work and my husband works 2 small businesses, we could easily make $250k with all three incomes together, we are risking our time and investment in the business for Obama to "share the wealth." Obama or any president's job is not to make life fair. You can have fair courts, fair business practices, lots of things that can be made fair, but life isn't fair and can't be made fair by gov't because you run into the problem of who decides what fair is.
It is really amazing how when the messiah screws up on an answer all you obama kool aid drinkers try to cover for him. For once in this campaign he answered a question truthfully and let everyone know his true color. He will tax everyone he believes makes too nuch money because it is the fair thing to do. And on his health care proposal Hawaii tried Obamas plan and after just eight months has had to scrap it because to cost is overwhelming.
ANON 1:09 PM, you first were quoted "I think your post is nonsense" and then come back with quote "I did not attack anyone but some seem fit to attack me". When I stated you were talking out of you misinformed... it is because you stated "As far as the cost, it probably had nothing to do with the difference between the size of the employer" I am certainly correct here as it does. Also since when is the government considered a small business! I also never said I could afford to spend $170 a week on insurance I said I do because it is the responsible thing to do because I have kids. Just like the rest of you I am barely making ends meet being a single parent. My point was that I do not want my means of wages and health care to be dictated by the U.S. government plain and simple. I can make my own decisions that affect my life with out intervention of the corrupt government. P.S. I am blessed with a great job but it is because I went back to school at the age of 31.
Hey 1:22 -- Mitt Romney was Governor of Massachusetts, not NH.
To the various anons above: Maybe Joe isn't a real plumber yet (Which I don't know--Did you hear that somewhere?) and maybe he can't even afford the business yet, but what's wrong with dreaming to one day own a business of his own? That's the American dream. For anyone to believe otherwise is an example of the sad state of our nation...
I have my own small business and pay my health insurance monthly and its more than 170.00 a week. Its not that I make that much money - its just that I HAVE to have health insurance in case I end up in the hospital - otherwise it will wipe me out financially because the hospital will take me to collections if I cant pay. Think before you speak the next time 1230PM because I am sure you get ALL your medical bills paid for.
The objection to the Joe the plumber is that he was held up as proof that the small, honest businessman would be screwed under Obama. As it turns out, he would benefit under Obama because his profits are high enough for higher taxation only in his dreams. And furthermore, he is not honest, as a tax evader who is working without a license and lying online about his union membership.
Hold him up as an emblem if you want, but it only proves why I'll be voting Democratic again. Republicans need to figure this out. This year's race has been boiled down to everything progress versus everything anti-progress.
5:47 Yes, my medical bills are paid for BY ME. Luckily, I am healthy. If something God forbid should happen to me serious, I would be wiped out financially. On being licensed, or a lack thereof, so freaking what. He never said that he was a licensed plumber that owned a business, he said he was looking into going into business, a business that could potentially have gross profits of $250K to $285K or there about.
On oweing taxes, so what, lots of folks owe taxes. I owe taxes. Ever heard of Congressman Charlie Wrangle, Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee that was cheating on his taxes this year ? Hello ? That's news, nah, not important ...
Lastly, it's interesting that it took the media less than 24 hours to dig up all the dirt on this guy because of something that Obama said in response to a question he posed. As if discrediting the guy makes what Obama said any better, not really but, it sure changes the subject doesn't it.
