Is God in Charge?

In about a month, some of us will go to the polls to cast our vote for the next President of the United States. All the millions of dollars spent by the candidates to sell themselves to you and I will finally come to a halt.

The Bible tells us that God places our leaders in charge. That God and only God is responsible for who becomes our next President. He has a plan for all of us, and it doesn't always go the way we think it should or want it to.

Do you believe that God puts our leaders where they are? Are the ones who win elections predetermined? Or do you think that it is purely a contest where the winner is chosen by the people through the electoral college? Please be very honest. You know who's watching, and it's not Santa's helpers.

  2. God stopped payin attention a long time ago. He set the watch in motion, clapped his hands, and said, "OK, Have at it."

How else can you explain the steaming piles of crap, inhumanity, cruelness, and suffering in our world that he lets go unpunished, and unsaved. For him to watch all of this and do nothing is sadistic and mean. He can't be like that can he?

More blood has been shed in the "name of God" (and primarily the Christian verion of that God) than any other reason in the history of man. You think that at least one time, he would pick up the phone and say, "Uh, no thank you. Don't do that."

Instead, we are supposed to believe in this absentee father who will reward us adn deliver us from all of this suffering and evil, but only after we are dead?

    Uh. No thank you.

He gave us free will. If you give your creation free will, you cannot also be in charge of the everyday operations. He is supposed to love us and guide us, yet leaves all of us (including the most innocent) at the hands of our own intentions and the cruelness of others, and does NOTHING.

I HAVE to believe that he does not pay attention. Otherwise, the whole exercise seems a bit morally wrong.

  3. Joe, if you want to make this blog a legitimate news source, and a superior alternative to the daily times, this post is moving you in the absolute wrong direction.

  4. geeze! what a loon!

I suppose God placed leaders into power prior to the invention of christianity too. He was just waiting to make the big announcement.

  5. I do. That's why I vote for pro-life and pro-traditional marriage candidates. Too bad neither party has a candidate that espouses these beliefs. Both Obama and McCain support embryonic stem cell research, abortion, and civil unions. For you kool-aid drinking republicans, look it up...McCain is not a social conservative.

That's why I voted for Huckabee in the primary and will vote for the Constitution Party in the general election.

    Vote Principle not Party

  6. The Bible also says that All things work together for the glory of God. Yes God does already know who our next leader will be, don't you wish you had that kind of vision to the future.

  7. Man elects the next President just like man made the aids virus. God did not put us in this finincial crisis, the worship of money and possesions by man did. If the President is smart he or she would ask God for guidance. If the people are smart they will seek guidance from God in this election.

  8. Yes I do! Bush was the President for a reason, we found out a lot about our nation, good, bad and the ugly ;)

I think the people in high office try to predetermine or work by any means necessary to maybe prevent what they do not want to happen but only God knows at this moment who the next President will be.

Granted we may want Obama or McCain, but in the end as we come together as a country we help decided but we even don't have the last say.

This is going to be a tight election, so the higher ups may need to break a tie or whatever it is they do. But God is in control of this. He will take care of His people no matter how far in the hole we go ;)

Be encouraged America, God is our only HOPE in this election. He will put the right one in, TRUST

  9. Dear Reverend Mardela,

Regardless of your intentions, you and your ‘god fearing’ friends are what is driving this country into the ground. I suggest you read some Christopher Hitchens and become enlightened. Till then, please keep your ignorant blathering at church, not on this legitimate news source.

    Thank you.

  10. On the blog it is blathering yet the Daily Times devotes an entire section to churches and religion in the Saturday edition.

I am really beginning to wonder about the people in this area. The hypocrisy is astounding.

  11. I'm an abject athiest.

But even with that, the bible says that man has free will. If one man has free will, then a collection of men also has free will when voting.

Thus, the answer for all Christians should also be no, unless you also think god is using a Diebold machine.

  12. If God is behind all of the mess created by the leaders he put in place, then I think He doesn't like us very much!

Thanks, dougwilkerson, for your succinct answer. I agree.

  13. "god is using a Diebold machine"

God is a total 1337 haxor rigging the elections by taking over diebold machines.

Now if that script kiddie the Devil figures out how to counter the attack, could he not also rig elections too? That might explain Bush.

  15. do you all realize that the bible is outdated? if you vote on the principle of traditional marriage (which, btw, being gay is NOT A CHOICE NOT A SIN get over yourselves) and other things you THINK you see in the bible, then you better stop eating shelfish...aka the blue crab. because that's a sin too!

biggest reason i moved away from my hometown is because of these outdated attitudes...because i'm different. and God IS in charge of my life, though many of you would disagree with me because i'm a lesbian and think that I cannot be a Christian because of my "lifestyle."

    ReplyDelete
  16. You can be a lesbian it is free will, but in the end you will be in Hell with the rest of them.

God gave us free will, like you your children. When your kids make mistakes you still love them, forgive them.

If God did not give us free will, how would he truly know we loved him? This is done so we have a choice and make the right one some of us do and some dont.

If you truly read the bible it is not out of date, it is right on track and we are coming close to a time when we will all be judged.

  17. To anon 1:23:

Yes, God gave us free will. And if you take the Bible so literally then you must note how many "laws" you are breaking according to Leviticus.

And how can you tell me that being a lesbian means that I have had a choice? Did you choose to be straight? No.

Biologically, I am a lesbian. It is who I am. Why would I CHOOSE to live a lie?

I worship the same God you do, and my God does not condem and loves US all.

Who are YOU to judge me?

  18. God knows everything that will happen way before it happens. If god could pick his preference it would hands down be John McCain for many issues and for those of you who say God doesnt care about the world blah blah blah i saw a t shirt in OC that read.

    Dear God,
Why do you allow so much violence in schools?

    -Concerned Student

    Dear Concerned Student,
I am not allowed in schools.
    -God

SOOOOOO true, believing in God is a choice and just because you do does not mean bad things wont come your way. The world is a vicious place and it is your choice to believe that Jesus died on the cross and he is your savior, and live your life according to Gods will and thats where you will make it to where there is no violence. You cant expect God to be on your side if you arent on his.

  19. Lesbians for Obama!

If I kiss my hot girlfriend in front of you, will you change your vote from McCain to Obama? Because I will, if that is what it takes. Especially if you live in Pennsylvania or Virginia.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I dont judge you, you have already judged yourself. You can try to justify yourself to everyone else, no need dont waist your time or breath. If you believe in your heart that you are right, then nothing will change your mind.

Remember, your heart will lead you down the wrong path and all men sin. I have asked for my sins to be forgiven, have you. Go to the word and I hope pray you make the right choice if you already have then good for you.

I dont think you will get anyone with a religous back ground to agree, you will search churches until you find one that agrees but that does not mean it is right.

As a human, you can read but not understand. Good luck with your life choices.

  21. I believe that everything does happen for a reason. We may not always understand or question as to why but somehow, somehere there is a reason. I've seen it many times in my own life. God is in control, In the overall picture. God is real and his son Jesus Christ does live! Jesus the living son of God!

  22. Lesbian- you are so wrong when you state the bible is outdated. God has not changed, nor have His standards for us and for living. We are the ones who have changed. Yes you do have a choice. Just say no. Get straight and ask for forgiveness. Your sins are no worse than mine. God bless.

100% agree with your comment, the best answer for this blog!
    GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Bring God into it and look at the venom!
Guess that's why there is separation of church and state?
