The Mayors Hand Picked Golden Boy

Its Official , Ryan Ewalt is the Mayors official hand picked choice to continue her legacy long after she has left office. In the last few months he has been appointed to the Environmental Task Force and to the new Crime Task Force. He still will not come clean on his future agenda, but these appointments by the mayor show he has designs on some future in local politics. I noticed on WMDT they claimed he initiated the whole concept of getting together to fight crime, when Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen were the only 2 member of the Council to want more Police officers to keep our streets safe long before Ryan even showed up to meetings. The people behind him Mayor Tilghman and Gary Comegys were gung ho for the fire fighters new stuff, but couldn't find it in the budget to help the police force. I urge everyone to see this for what it is, a way to offer Ryan as some kind of city savior to prep him for a future run, so he can continue his mentors policies.

  1. How is this in any way "official"? Did you speak to the Mayor? Ewalt? Comegys? Anyone? This is SPECULATION. Welcome to the big leagues, grinch. Too bad you struck out your first at-bat...

  2. New Crime Task Force? You gotta be kidding me! That's the Mayor's answer to everything, appoint a group of people to sit around and talk.

You are right, Grinch. I don't know who this Ewalt kid is or "what's up wi'dat," but Debbie and Terry have been pounding on the police issues ever since I can remember. And it's not just about police, either. The rape of the neighborhoods by landlords is another factor in our crime. Both Debbie and Terry have been champions for restoring neighborhoods.

Do you know who's on this task force? Please post if you do.

  3. Is this a fact or the start of a speculative campaign that only serves to create emotional hype. That's not the way to get rid of the "drama" queen and her stooges.

Why tear this young man down? This town needs young leaders like Ryan. Give him a chance. Is he really being groomed by the mayor, or is he just preparing for himself? Who in the world is going to be good enough for the people of Salisbury? I guess we can just await a cloing machine and have Mike Lewis clone himself. The bottom line, we need new leaders, don't tear this man down for being active in the community.

  5. Does he remind you of Mikey Dunn?

    Thanks, but no thanks, pal.

  7. Politics as usual in the 'Bury -

"The meetings will be open to the public, but Tilghman was unsure of if and when non-task force members would be able to make public comments."

  8. How long until Barrie gives him a certificate at the start of a City Council meeting?

How about making this the lead post today -- it's buried under too much junk.

  10. Well people of Salisbury, you know who NOT to vote for, especially if this is Queen Barrie's pick of the litter.

  11. Sadly, we've all had to become suspicious of anything Barrie does or of any new face (thanks a lot, Louweasel).

I don't know the boy, but I am suspicious of anyone we don't know who gets up once, spouts platitudes and starts ending up in political positions.

The fact that this is the grandson of a man who constantly ran for office and lost and whose only platform (besides Barrie and Gary's) was to put a student on the city council does not help me trust this young man any further.

Forgive me my skepticism. I've been trained by the worst: Barrie Tilghman, Louise Smith, Gary Comegys, and I'm not forgetting the rest of the "Dream Team," Mike Dunn and Lynn Cathcart whose idea of unity and civility is like Barrie's and Louise's: agree with me or else!

  12. I saw this last night and couldn't keep from chuckling to myself. This has been talked about on here and everywhere else about getting more people in place to knock down the crime. I'm tired of hearing it being "discussed". Lets take some action Mayor!!! This city needs help with crime. Lets do what it takes to get it done, not talk about it. As the old saying goes, "Actions speak louder than words".

  14. While I completely understand everyone's suspicions regarding anything the Mare does, it seems kind of early to already be attacking someone. You guys don't know anything about him, yet you see him as a target for your attacks. While Mike Dunn and others have obvious records as cronies of the Mare, I think Ryan will surprise you.

  15. Give the guy a chance

  16. If you attending some city council meetings you would see the loving looks of approval he gets from his heroes Gary and Barrie.

  17. I can see he has a lot of experience in this kind of thing, At school someone stole his lunch money so he wants to make sure it never hapens again.

Experience, that is what we need. Not KIDS!

    Debbie needs to run....

  18. you are missing the point...don't let Barrie off the hook for years of doing nothing. This was done because the city election is right around the corner!

  19. I am willing to listen to the young man, and then I'll decide what to make of him.

  20. How about you guys try to do something rather than b!@#h about it online, the guy is trying to the right stuff give it a break,

  21. Thats a great point anon 11:43.

    Great Post

  22. We are all mad as hell at Barrie, yet by bashing this young man, just because someone sought she made googoo eyes at him, or because of a hunch someone has, is not very productive.

  23. I've attended more meetings than the Ewalt kid has. I've been more active in my community and done more to try to clean up this town, but the Mayor's never asked me to head a committee.

  24. There are lots and lots of citizens in Salisbury who have been community activists much longer than Ewalt, and I'm not referring to people who are explicitly anti-Tilghman. It is clear what is going on--she sees this guy as her heir apparent, and let's be honest--he's a heck of a lot better than Gary! I wonder if gary realizes that he is being played here. But I, for one, already know who I will be voting for, and I will need Mr Ewalt to do a lot more to earn my vote in future elections.

  25. I am a young business owner and professional in town. I support Ryan fully as his intentions are in the best interests of the Salisbury! Doing away with the old politics of this city will be the best thing that could ever happen. New techniques, views and partnerships are needed for the eastern shore area to grow and compete. If we dont support a young man like Ryan and others trying to step up and be leaders without the "old boy network" getting in our back pockets - then we will all leave. And go where accepted in metropolitian areas where we can thrive. We are lucky enough to have young professionals in our area that are for TRUE CHANGE! Go Ryan and other young professionals!

  26. Anon 5:40..Being Young isn't necessarily a good thing in this current political world..just makes him easier to mold.

That sounds exactly like Gary(partnerships)and a bit of Louweasal in the mutt.

  28. 5:40 p.m., if you'll consider recalling Gary the Bubba and Louweasel, plus supporting someone with integrity for mayor, I'll consider voting for Ryan to replace one of those two.

If Tim Spies had gotten in instead of Gary, we'd be seeing some action. Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen are two of the smartest, most forward thinking, diligent people I have seen, yet they run up against the foulest people ever.

The progress this town could have made if a wall hadn't been up against those two...I cry to think about what we've lost.

  29. Personally, I think Ryan would work great along side Debbie and Terry. Anon. 5:40 was right, he is young and has great ideas. New partnerships need to be made as old ones are torn down. The only reason everyone on here thinks Ryan is a pawn/puppet of the Mare's is b/c he is the only new comer around that just as done anything to piss her off yet. He's only pissing "you" off b/c he's been more excited about helping since he moved back to his home town and is actually getting recognition for it!

  30. This is 5:40 anon..
Im sure Barrie is trying to work any deal she can to grip onto what "whatever leverage" she has on city residents (which is'nt much - lets be honest here - its only a matter of 200 days or so before we can see reform). Ryan will not be pulled down nor allow Barrie to get in the way of doing whats right for Salisbury. I agree Terry and Debbie are notable policy enforcers...BUT have been ignored by the other "cancers" in office! Ryan and other young professionals could help leaders like Debbie & Terry with drive, enthusiasm and non-bias leadership assistance. If Ryan was to be associated with anyone it should be progressive leaders like those ladies.
