In Seven And A Half Years, It Is Hard To Believe

Seven & a half years!

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.

A little over one year ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;

2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;

3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

4) The DOW JONES hit a record high -- 14,000+

5) American's were buying new cars, taking cruises and vacations overseas, living large!

But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress & yep -- we got 'CHANGE' all right!

1) Consumer confidence has plummeted;

2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing;

3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% incre ase);

4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 trillion dollars & prices are still dropping;

5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

6) THE DOW is probing another low ~11,300 -- $2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS!

YEP, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE! AND WE GOT IT! A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS, NANCY PELOSI. HARRY REID.

Now the Democrats' candidate for president -- and the polls say he's gonna be 'the man' -- claims he's gonna really give us change! Just how much more 'change' do you think you can stand?

Have a very nice day.

  2. Joe,
    Don't you think the people who choose the politicians have more power over the economy than the politicians themselves? Isn't it true that the rick elite who control Wall Street and the flow of money in and out of the Federal Reserve Banks, along with interest rates, have all the power? Isn't the current economic downturn, the result of the bursting of the housing bubble? Isn't the declining value of the dollar and the outrageous Federal debt responsible for the high rate of inflation? Does it really matter who is "in office"? Isn't it more important that we change the structure of our government before the elites enslave us?

  4. Joe - You are becoming too much to deal with! This site is going downhill bc all you post is about what YOU believe in. Look at the political banners on your site (which I believe is suppose to be an unbiased site)!

  5. This is one of the dumbest things I've seen yet.

    The housing disaster in the making traces back into the early part of this decade under Bush. Going after Saddam when Bin Laden was in Afghanistan was all Bush. Your buddy Cheney made lots of money on the war, and the oil/gas prices, guess who made out?

    The rate at which government moves, the Democrats in Congress could not have been the cause of all we see.

    Go ahead. Defend the dumber'n a post man you put in a second time. Maybe you'll feel less guilty, but the facts will remain the same.

    Historically, the greatest periods of prosperity in this country have been under Dem presidents.

  6. First you blame Clinton for all the shit that Bush had to deal with. 9.11 did happen nearly 1/4 of the way into Bush's first term. Then you try to put all the blame solely on the democratic congress. It is impossible to legislate their way out of the mess that Bush and his cronies, including McCain got us into. Go ahead idiots... continue with 4 more years under the McBush ticket... dumb, elitist, white america...

    you really do need to take the "unbiased" off the title of your blog.

  7. total and utter b.s. Think for yourselves, people. there's a reason Bush's approval ratings are in the cellar--he has driven this country about as low as it has ever been.

  8. The economy was not fine. Bush and his buddies have destroyed this nation for years to come. We have the largest federal deficit in history due to republican ideology. He lied us into a war with Iraq. He pissed on the constitution. The oil companies and private no-bid contractors are now swimming in money. You can't fix 6.5 years of complete foolishness overnight. Plus, with the presidential veto, things get even tougher.
    Deregulation of markets has proved to be dangerous not only to our economy but to the world. And what do the republicans want... more of the same. Were you better of 8 years ago -- I was. The country was. Clinton handed Bush a surplus. Bush ignored all warnings about Bin Laden. He and the republicans will be remembered as the worst administration in history. So stop your preaching... take your W'04 bumper sticker off.

    Don't even get me started about how ridiculous Palin is...
    Creationism, extremist views on abortion, highest per capita earmark budget, originally for the bridge to nowhere, praying for an oil pipeline, Iraq is "god's work", banning books, abusing government power, church had Jew's for Jesus founder talking about Israel getting punished for not being Christian, Alaska Independence Party, DWI husband, pregnant teen but still only wants to teach abstinence, no idea about what is going on in Iraq, only left North America once in her life,

    none of you knew her until 5 days ago and now you think she is the messiah

    oops.. I couldn't help myself...

  9. Was this a joke? Have you actually looked back critically at what happened during the Bush administration with its Republican Congress and their impact on this economy? If you are serious about where you're placing blame, I am stunned at your ignorance and lack of serious investigative journalism that you're usually known for.

  10. Hey typical democrat voter, 9-11 occurred less than eight months after George Bush took office. Those terroist were training in the US while Bill Clinton and his leftist party were too busy to notice, they were too intent on spending their time destroying the CIA and the FBI.

    Way to make that sound good you stupid democrat. I guess it was almost a whole 1/4 into his first term being a term is 4 years. You people never cease to amaze me. I was always told the Democrats are a differant class of people. Thanks for solidifying that statment.

  16. This site has so much good information that we as readers and citizens of Salisbury love and need. That being said, the biased political views published on this site are really becoming a negative force to many readers I'm sure. Sad that sites and sources that claim to be unbiased are usually just the opposite.

  17. Just because the facts don't line up with your misguided opinion, doesn't mean the blog tilts to the right. It is very unbiased, because all opinions are offered.
    Since we are talking about Presidents and finance, Congress has more to do with our financial health than any President. They control the budget. They submit and plan what the expenses and incomes are projected to be. Clinton benefited from a Republican Congress which thru the contract with America, brought us much prosperity. This decreased slightly around the 2000 election, just like it always does because of the uncertanty, but then rebounded with the votes for a continued Republican Congress. After the 2004 election, the Dems took majority control and since the economy has been on a downturn since and as with any election, uncertanty generates a slight tightening and slow down. If Republicans take back control, our economy will rebound. If the Dems stay in the majority, we will continue this downward slide. The only real effect the President has on the economy is in tax cuts. This President chose to cut taxes which has helped us keep out of a recession like is being felt around the world. We have been at war for many years. In the past, wars have taken our economy and brought it to a halt. This is the first time in history that our nation has been able to grow while spending so much to defend our freedom. This is due to tax cuts and low interest rates.
    Please, whether you want to include yourself into politcal parties, or just want to belong to one large group, Americans, don't just jump on a slogan to rehtoric that you don't understand. Go online and read what the financial people say (unbiased, non agenda reports).
    We are Americans! United we stand, Divided we fall! Unite with your neighbor on what you agree on.

  18. Anon 8:14 You got to give me a break. It is cold hard fact that our economy flourished the under Bush when he had a workable congress. The economy fell apart under the “Do Nothing Congress” that instead of passing viable laws they were passing resolutions like “National Funeral Directors Day”. You call people idiots, dumb, elitist, White America, instead of giving facts that can be backed up. Truly we need to talk about issues like health insurance costs and wasteful spending overseas to countries that really don’t like us very much. Time to reclaim America and Obama is not the answer with his Socialist ideals. Watch the O’Reilly interview when Obama talks about taxing the rich and giving to the poor. That is Socialism by taxation. Facts are facts right from the donkey’s mouth. Try to act intelligent and do stoop to ill thrown name calling and you might just get a little credibility to your statements.

  20. That is fantastic! And to think, you don't even have to mention foreign policy or our relations with the world because they have gone so spectacularly well these Bush years. Plus, that surplus that we had at the begininng of his Presidency really helped out a lot.

    He did Great! God, I so wish I could vote for him again. It is such a shame that he will leave office and never get the chance to nuke anyone.

  21. McCain doesn't offer us anything new...

    Here are some interesting Alaska facts.

    Of the 50 states, Alaska ranks No. 1 in taxes per resident and No. 1 in spending per resident. Its tax burden per resident is 21/2 times the national average; its spending, more than double. The trick is that Alaska's government spends money on its own citizens and taxes the rest of us to pay for it. Although Palin, like McCain, talks about liberating ourselves from dependence on foreign oil, there is no evidence that being dependent on Alaskan oil would be any more pleasant to the pocketbook.
    Alaska is, in essence, an adjunct member of OPEC. It has four different taxes on oil, which produce more than 89% of the state's unrestricted revenue. On average, three-quarters of the value of a barrel of oil is taken by the state government before that oil is permitted to leave the state. Alaska residents each get a yearly check for about $2,000 from oil revenues, plus an additional $1,200 pushed through by Palin last year to take advantage of rising oil prices. Any sympathy the governor of Alaska expresses for folks in the lower 48 who are suffering from high gas prices or can't afford to heat their homes is strictly crocodile tears.
    As if it couldn't support itself, Alaska also ranks No. 1, year after year, in money it sucks in from Washington. In 2005 (the most recent figures), according to the Tax Foundation, Alaska ranked 18th in federal taxes paid per resident ($5,434) but first in federal spending received per resident ($13,950). Its ratio of federal spending received to federal taxes paid ranks third among the 50 states, and in the absolute amount it receives from Washington over and above the amount it sends to Washington, Alaska ranks No. 1.

  22. "cold hard facts" that the economy fluorished?? Really.. please show me these facts. Your beloved republicans de-regulated both the commodities market and the housing market. The housing bubble popped long before the democrats took control. The price of gas was rising long before as well. And as speculators were able to manipulate the market thanks to McCain lover Phil Gramm, prices continued to rise and those speculators, their clients, and the oil companies got rich.

  23. Anon 11:05... the answer can be solved in 3 easy steps.

    1 - Look up the definition of the word unbiased. (Hint - You will then see "Without favor")

    2 - Look at the site home pape (Hint - you will see McCain and Harris logos) Then refer back to step 1 (ie. "without favor")

    3 - Look at the posts made (Hint - you will see spun off articles and pictures about the opposing candidate, obviously making them look bad.

    The site is NOT unbiased.

    Joe - could you please bring the local site back!

  25. "We have the largest federal deficit in history due to republican ideology."

    Anonymous 8:27:
    Budgets and spending come from Congress. The President at any given time submits a budget to Congress that is his proposal of what he thinks our budget should be. Congress uses that as a starting point after which there is much argument, deliberation, and negotiation. Like the manufacturing of sausage, the end result only faintly, if at all, resembles what you started with. Budgets and any suplus/deficits are almost exclusively the result of Congress, not ANY President. By the way, which party is in the majority and running Congress during this time of high deficits? Granted, President Bush does seem to have lost his veto pen when it comes to budgets and spending bills while Congress is spending OUR money like a bunch of drunken Democraps.
