I hope you run for re-election so that I can vote against you. Your view on this imporatant legislation is outside 'mainstream' Marylanders way of thinking.

WE NEED IT ALL, NEW DRILLING FOR OIL, SOLAR, HYDROGEN, WIND, CHESAPEAKE BAY OIL EXPLORATION, WANGO OIL EXPLORATION, PITTSVILLE OIL EXPLORATION, SALISBURY OIL EXLPLORATION, AND YES I DON'T CARE IF IT IS IN OWN BACKYARD IF IT WILL RESULT IN CHEAPER ENERGY PRICES!!

I'm alerting all of my immediate family members and friends here in Maryland and will express to them what you have informed me.

Thanks for writing anyway.

Dear Mr. Miller:

Thank you for writing to me with your concerns about oil and natural gas drilling on public lands . I look for ward to a day when the production of oil and gas on any public land is no longer necessary , and our nation is instead powered predominately by clean, renewable energy sources.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) , which operates under the Department of the Interior , is the agency charged with administe r ing the majority of America 's public lands and th e natural resources that reside within these lands. S ince 1920, the BLM has overseen the leasing, exploration, and production of coal, oil, gas, and sodium on public lands in the United States . If drilling is going to take place, I support agency ov ersight that is as transparent as possible. Any r ule changes , for example, should be open to public review and comment well before the y take place.

T he de velopment of public lands for private profit is a decision that must n ot be taken lightly. Throughout my legislative career, I have opposed oil and gas drilling in our wil derness areas and national park s, because I believe w e have a duty to leave wild ecosystems as intact and untouched by the human hand as possible. This is why I have consistently voted to protect sensitive marine and coastal zon es, such as Bristol Bay , and treasured wilderness areas like the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) from oil and gas development .

There are better, more responsible solutions for meeting our national energy needs . I support tax credits and other incentives for the development of clean, renewable energy sources , such as wind, solar, hydrogen, and bio-fuels . These energy sources emit fewer greenhouse gases and are much less invasive to our natural environment than oil and gas development.

I have also long sup ported protections for Maryland 's state parks and open spaces . For example, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 's State Wildlife Grants protect wildlife habitats in Maryland . The Land and Water Conservation Fund provide s matching federal funds to states and local governments , including Maryland , for public recreation areas and facilities. And t he North American Wetlands Conservation Act funds conservation projects that protect wetland habitats in Maryland and around the country . I have fought hard in this and p revious Congresses to increase fundin g for these and other important conservation programs, and you can be assured that I will continue to do so .

Again, thank you for contacting me about oil and gas drilling on our nation's public lands. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about this or any other matter of concern.

  1. Johnnie,

"Drill, baby, drill!" is a stupid PR slogan invented by the Republicans to get idiot voters to vote red.

New drilling isn't going to decrease the cost of oil for AT LEAST 7 YEARS. And that's not according to some left-wing environmentalist group, that's according to Bush's White House. The only responsible way to spend the BILLIONS it will take to get us off foreign oil, is to invest it into renewable energy, and not to waste money on new drilling, when we KNOW we only have 3% reserves and suck up 25% of the oil. It's a waste of money for the country, but not for the oil industry. And they're the ones behind the lies about drilling. They just wrapped it in the American flag and sold it to idiots like you.

    And you fell for it.

Good job... keep chanting "Drill, baby, drill!" It keeps reminding us how idiotic you are. Another thing I love: Idiots like you are now talking about "energy independence" and "reducing our need for oil". Which, of course, is laughable, considering that we Liberals have been saying it for OVER THIRTY YEARS while you idiots laughed in our faces and bought more and more cars that got worse and worse fuel efficiency. Well, guess what? You don't get to act like it's a new idea, idiots... and you definitely don't get to act like it's YOUR idea, either.

P.S. Writing in all caps to a U.S. Senator makes you look like a rabid fanatic. By all means, keep that up!

  2. cobra commander:

    Are you a democratic embasile?

Didn't you read what he said in capitals. 'WE NEED IT ALL, SOLAR, WIND, HYDROGEN'. The last time I checked these were all renewables.

    What's your point?

It's no wonder the Democrats are having trouble, they can't read.

  3. CC...

It seems to me that the argument mad by Clinton 13 years ago was that any drilling in ANWR would not have any effect on our supply for 10 years. Here we are thirteen years later and instead of being able to take advantage of that now, we are suffering (to some degree) because we failed to move forward with it then. Why is it that when someone has a different opinion than you they are idiots? Over and over? To me it is YOU that seems like a rabid liberal fanatic.

While I agree that we need to actively seek out renewable energy, I believe it is NOT the govt. that needs to do the research or give grants at the cost of the taxpayer (which incidentally, you liberals seem favor at the turn of every corner). The govt. needs to loosen up regulations which tend to discourage R&D of such resources that would lessen our dependence on foriegn oil. Open your eyes and look around you. The market is managing the problem. As the cost of oil and gasoline went up, people started buying energy efficient autos, etc., which caused consumption to go down. This caused the prices to fall IN SPITE of the damage to the platforms in the gulf being affected by a hurricane. If Obama gets elected and raises taxes, it will push fuel prices up again.

  4. Why the name calling? What does that do to help the problem at all? We need to stop think that if you want this or that that you are a stupid republican or a dumb democrat. What is really needed is some brain storming. Those of you that aren't familiar, all ideas are put on the board and gone thru. No one is called a name if something seems irrational, because you don't want to stiffle the creative mind. Someone might have the greatest idea in the world, but if they feel they will be put down, it might just sit in their brain forever.
The argument that we should't drill is a crazy one. Just because it won't help us today, doesn't mean it won't help us in the future. The Oil companies should be taking a large part of their profits and invest it back into new drilling, new refining and knew technology. If the industries that depend on oil are struggling, they should help to, because it will only help them in the long run.
We should also look at alternatives. Nuclear energy should be used much more than it is today. It is a safe and cost effective way to produce electricity. The Navy has been doing this for more than 40 years. Just think where the oil prices would be if the military needed all the oil the is save by the nuclear ships.
Let's not forget wind and water. These are two ways that we could get energy with little cost compaered to oil.
Conservation is something that all businesses need to do a better job at. Why do we have a choice to buy something energy efficient or not? everything made should be energy efficient. That's just a no brainer. That is the type of smart regulation we need to reduce our energy needs.
Every home should have solar energy. Every business should have some type of solar energy. The government gives many tax advantages to those who choose this. Now if we could get low or no interest loans for the same, we all would be better off. It's a win, win.

Stop the name calling. Stop the idea smashing, stop dividing our country with every issue in life. Start with more drilling, because we are going to be using oil for as far as the mind can imagine. Start smart negotiations with other countries to bring down the cost to import oil. Start smart regulation to help us all to benefit from reduced energy needs. Start uniting us for the good of our country, and the benefit of us and our future generations. Together we can accomplish anything.

  5. Drill baby drill is a stupid PR slogan?
How about "I'm trying to save the planet" Now that's a stupid statement, or "The war is lost"
Wake up cobra commander! The Dems have thwarted every effort to reduce our dependancy on foreign oil, and have blamed everything they can think of on Bush, while complaining about partisan bickering and have been doing so for years. Can't build nuclear power plants, can't build refineries, have passed laws reducing the fuel efficiency of autos, while requiring them to get more. Can't build coal power plants even though we have the largest reserves in the world,
the global warming scam that is just about trying to create a one world government with the power to tax your every activity, Democrats passing laws telling you what you can and can't eat, forcing you to send you kids to government run schools that are the discrace of the world thanks to the NEA.
When are you dumb Dems gonna wake up to the fact that you are just hurting yourself when you keep electing Democrats.
    Democrats...the anti American party!

  6. We have a lot more OIL than Corbra THINKS!!--he has fallen for the Liberal Wacko Environmental losers.. who don't want anything other than Wind for energy...

Give me a break.. we have a ton of Coal, oil and other energy sources if we use them.

I like gas, and oil, I want to use it.. and I want it cheaper.. so keep drilling in AMERICA!!!!! Loser Democrats just want to give up.. well then they can.. I will keep fighting for America

  7. Drill baby drill might seem silly however it is temporarily the only way out. We do need to always persue alternative energy however we cannot afford to break our economy giving subsidies to energy methods that don't make sense. A multiprong approach of more drilling and some investment (read subsisies) are needed. That being said you can rest assure China, Russia, India and others as laughing as we talk of strangling ourselves with such foolishness of environmental mandates. They probably find it most amusing that they don't even need to help hold the rope.

When the right alternative energy is invented it will change the world and that change isn't going to come from the government. The change will occur becasue of the free market system and the fact everyone knows the inventor will become very rich.

This is also a matter of national security. We are a long way off from our military being able to go "green" and until tanks, ships, etc can run on something other than diesel fuel, we need domestic production.

Why are so many people so enthusiastic to sink our economy by mandating the end of fossil fuels? Our enemies (and yes we still have some) are laughing and waiting for us to shoot ourselves. You have to admit, it is kinda ironic that only the US can stop the US from being a super power. Who would have thought people in this country would support such an idea?

  8. The war that may destroy this great republic is an economic war, were in it neck deep right now. the other countries have been laughing since NAFTA, and alot since then.
