Word is that Clear Channel Radio Corporate came into Salisbury and allegedly fired all the "big wigs" at Clear Channel Radio. General Manager Frank Hamilton, National Sales Manager Bill Vernon, Sales Manager Ed Fennessy, & Sales Ex. Terry Ayers. This sounds fishy.
Perhaps we'll hear more from comments?
damn, i was looking foward to the end zone on monday.
ReplyDeleteWell you'll still have Jon Joines, but the name will be changed from the End Zone to Slurping the Pats...
ReplyDeleteThis happened thursday, and fishy doesn't even begin to cover it. These are four of the best and corporate is either being lied to, stupid, or they just don't have a clue how these guys have worked for them. It's a crock. But being the best brightest and community oriented, this will probably land them in a better place for them and their families!
ReplyDeleteWord on the street is that they were fired over some emails. However the so called "big wigs" could provide proof of these emails. That's right the people that were let go weren't shown anything. The people that were let go were all the ones that transformed Clear Channel from some big name company to a local resource. These are they guys that got out in the community and gave back. Toys for Tots, Winterfest of lights, the fireworks, Bike Week, Winefest, Pork in the park, Big Thursday in Millsboro, Trick or Treat Street, and many others. Whenever the community needed anything it was those 4 guys that made it happen. I also know that a ton of clients are not happy and have or will be pulling their money. It's a real shame and a blow to the community. Feel free to call the new guy Chuck Peterson at 410-742-1923 or email him at chuckpeterson@clearchannel.com to express your thoughts. Word is that this guy didn't let them go, that was Tom Thon and his email is tomthon@clearchannel.com. I feel worse for the community than I do for everyone that was let go, they'll land on their feet, but the community will suffer.
ReplyDeleteDoes Frank Hamilton have a wife Kelly and two young sons?
ReplyDeleteBig Companies cannot tolerate sexual harassment on the job. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteI hear there is some controvery surrounding the emails and some lazy, no good, freeloader, witch from frederick named wanda. I hope karma bites her in the ass too. Regarding inappropriate emails, about her, they probably spoke the truth and she tried to get something for nothing. At the expense of hard working employees that support our ocal community...what a shame. I know I pulled my buy! Screw corporate
ReplyDeletehey 10:56...no one sexual harassed anyone! apparently you don't know these guys, oh and a woman named melanie was fired too.
ReplyDeleteThere was no sexual harrasment...none...so whoever said that needs to check their sources...
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the people that were let go, and I can tell you for a FACT that there was no sexual harassment and that sexual harassment was NEVER even brought up so you might want to check your facts first. Also I just wanted to thank everyone else for their comments and that it's really nice to know that the stuff we did in the community and for the community was noticed.
ReplyDeleteBill Vernon
I have worked with these guys and don't believe for a second that they would be involved with sexually hassament... For one, one of those guys wife works at clear channel a couple of doors down from him... Secondly, wheres the proof, where are these emails... I will support these guys anyway I can... And clear channel better not come looking for my business. I will be one of those companies that will be pulling out. To many other radio stations that care about the locals.
ReplyDeleteBill Vernon started the internship program at Clear Channel Radio - Salisbury, where he inspired many college students by providing them a well-rounded, inspirational program providing a window of insight into the corporate workplace, here in Salisbury. Bill was told the program wouldn't work, but for years into the program, there has been a waiting list to join. I had the opportunity to work with Bill, Terry, Frank, and Ed, and I feel honored to have been provided such an integral experience to my personal growth.
ReplyDeleteJoe, I ask that you stick with this story and try to get more answers - please save room on your blog (rather than the comment area) to focus on more coverage of this. Bill offered much of his time to help line-up different community events, none of which added to his commission or paycheck. He has a huge heart, and it's such a shame to see this happen.
apparently the excuse used was that emails floated about the building that contained political jokes and or pictures that a couple of employees found offensive. i don't understand why a warning or such wasn't used. i believe it was an excuse to get rid of a lot of high salaries
ReplyDeleteIt truly is an upsetting and sad blow to not only the community but to the rest of the staff at Clear Channel Radio that these 5 people were taken from our 'TEAM'. These guys and gal worked to make not only the community better, but the corporate company that they were loyal to better. Their faces and names represented Clear Channel Radio Delmarva. They were able to take a worldwide name and attached local faces to it and people respect them.
ReplyDeleteA blow that's even worse is that people will throw delicate words like sexual harassment into the mix when that wasn't even an issue. Emails were the reason...no one knows what those emails said because corporate isn't talking. They didn't even talk to the people they fired. So do not slander the names of 5 great people with bullshit that wasn't even stated. I personally looked up to the 5 individuals that were let go. I repect them, learned from them while they were with us, and would willingly help with anything they needed on the job because they would do the same for me. They inspired me to do the job that I do and to put all of myself into it. They taught me the majority of what I know. Sexual harrassment wasn't something they practiced or passed along, so squash it.
I was also one of the ones let go. I never harrased anyone and anyone who knows anything about me knows I wouldn't do a thing like that. I have a wife and 3 kids. Thanks to all who have expressed concern. Terry Ayers
ReplyDelete12:12 - kudos! I don't think I could have said it any better!
ReplyDeleteI was blown away by the news, and it still leaves a pit in my stomach. I started working with Frank, Ed, Bill and Terry when I was fresh out of college. For the past 10 years I have been fortunate enough to witness them shape the Clear Channel image and grow to affect the community and its events with heart. They have been trustworthy, honorable and true friends. Anyone who has had the priviledge to know them and acutally work with them should take this as a person foul!

I know each of these Gentlemen and have worked with them on countless projects, promotions, fund raisers, and campaigns. I did not know the woman who was fired but am sure that her dismissal is unfortunate. I do not believe that any email, or harassment had anything to do with them being let go. Corporate has no clue as to the caliber of these guys and what good they have done for their company, fellow staff, and community. A little digging online and you will find that Clear Channel Corporate is restructuring management and addressing smaller markets. Whatever reason these guys were given it was at best a lame excuse to simply clean house. No one in this Market has done it better for longer than these gentleman. None has even come close to the customer service, the results for their clients, the number of benefactors of their generosity and hard work. I know for a fact that Bill Vernon worked ethically everyday, multitasked the like no other, and always took challenge head on, his work ethic has always inspired me and his straight forward and honest advise has always been essential to any campaign, promotion or business project.
ReplyDeleteI hope that they start their own agency right here is Salisbury, for all mediums and media.
I teach with someone whose last name is Hamilton, and I think her husband's first name is Frank. They have two boys, one in elementary and one in middle school. I would like to give her a card tomorrow if this is the same family mentioned in this post. Could someone who knows please answer?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it is the same family...
ReplyDeleteDCRTV had this poste dn thier site either earlier this week or sometime last week. But I have not seen them follow it up either.
ReplyDeleteThe radio/TV business seems cruel. Another story to file in that chapter.
Let me just say that my son, Bill Vernon, was raised with morals, ethics and a great respect for everyone, especially women. Bill would do everything within his power NOT to hurt anyone’s feelings. With that being said, I wish that I could say the same for “The Powers That Be” at Clear Channel Radio. My son had been employed by Clear Channel Radio for many years, working his way up the corporate ladder. He built and cultivated relationships with many of the local business owners in this area. All of his clients knew that they could contact him at anytime with questions or concerns. If you have ever been out to eat with Bill, you know that it is impossible to get through a meal without a minimum of 5 emails and a couple of phone calls! He was always a dedicated employee giving much of his free time to many community events. He spent countless hours organizing and participating in the Toys for Tots drives and fundraisers every year.
ReplyDeleteWhile it is true that the owners of Clear Channel Radio may “do what they wish with their company”, we, as a community, can do likewise when it comes to our patronage (either financially or just as a listener). Just as the company does not have to justify to anyone why they let 5 of their most loyal, dedicated and hard working employees go with such blatant disregard, neither do we “the public” have to justify to Clear Channel Radio when we change our radio dials (I strongly recommend CAT COUNTRY @ 97.5 for all of you country fans!) or take our advertising and support elsewhere. It is quite obvious by all of the “supportive posts” that these 5 people are greatly loved and respected by their community. Clear Channel Radio, you should be taking notes, for these 5 people (along with your remaining employees) are what has built and driven your business in the past. Now that you have shown your “true colors” your future may not be as bright.

This is to funny!! Guess what goes around comes around.BOO HOO cry babies, especially you Bill Vernon.I work for CC and all I can say is it wasnt soon enough!! LOL
ReplyDeleteIn the last two months more then six Salisbury CC employees have quit...what do you suppose that means?
ReplyDeleteEmployees dont get fired for no reason. Give me a break. They know what they did and how they broke th ruls. Arrogance in believing that your job is safe and you can do whatever you want is what got some of thm in trouble. One's wife even works here and he was made her supervisor! What a crock, I agree with 3;51, BOO HOO stop the crying and fess up to your mistakes. Move on and let those still left have some peace!
ReplyDeleteJust catching up on old posts...What's the latest on the 5 execs that were fired from Clear Channel? Are they going to try to sue CC and have they found new jobs?
ReplyDeleteI thank you CC for your stupidity. Ed Fennessy is well known in Radio along with his Brothers. He is one of the best. You let him go and I was fortunate enough to get him working with me. Keep going CC, train 'em all the best 'ya can then let 'em loose. We independent stations really appreciate your hard work. As for the others, I knew a few of them. Even worked in the past with 'em. Congrats to all on your new (definately improved) employment lives! Keep going CC...Greed is really what its all about now...isn't it. In this case we've reaped the best of what you sowed...thanks for freeing them, thank God almighty, thanks for freeing them!
