Another Dr. Nolte Disaster

RIP Sweet Diva
September 4, 2008 · 1 Comment

For the past month Diva has been sick… throwing up … diharrea .. not as active pretty much just laying around mostly on my bed. Anyone who knows Diva knows she is a hyper dog who loves attention.. she greeted everyone at the door with kisses. We knew something was wrong so we took her to the “Trusted” vet Dr. Nolte … Mike wanted to take her there because he said thats where is momma took his dog Samantha ..so thats where we took her.. He said that it looked like she ate something other than food and it was stuck .. so he gave her two shots and gave me a bottle of antibotics to give her to control the high fever she had and hopefully that would help her pass whatever it was she supposedly ate. well after a week of meds and her not eating at all anymore and barely drinking anything , we took her back . He took some xrays and blood work. the xray (from what he says) said that she had a large mass the size of a baseball stuck in her small intesine and the blood work said she had an infection . She was soo skinny , she had lost at least 30lbs. she could barely get up on my bed anymore and everytime she went to get down she yelped. So Nolte said she needed surgery to drop her off wed morning and he would call us around 2pm. We dropped her off and he called at 2 and said that there was nothing he could do that she had a large tumur on her small intestine that we needed to come get her. ( I thought it was a little weird that we would have to come get her the same day she had exploritory surgery… I thought she would of needed care after the surgery) So when we got there to pick Diva up… Mike went in while I sat in the truck with the kids. Then this woman comes walking around the back side of the building .. i figure she was just walking one of the dogs .. and I was right she was.. I didn’t see the dog .. but Kamryn did .. She yelled out Mommy why is Diva bleeding .. why is there blood all over her??? whats that stuff coming out of her belly! I was like what?! This woman took Diva from the building walked her out the back door … sprayed her with a hose to get all the blood off of her and then made Diva (who just had major surgery) walk around the building! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Nolte didnt even wrap the entire inscision up .. they stuff that Kamryn asked what it was.. was some of her insides falling out in between the few stiches she had .. from where he didnt wrap her up all the way! We loaded her up in the truck and called another vets office and they told us to take her straight to the Pets ER .. That after surgery like that she needed to be medically cared for over the next 24 hours. That he should of never sent her home! I knew I was right! Then I realized why Dr. Nolte wanted the tech to take Diva out back and spray her down .. Im sure he didnt want to walk her thru his office out to where Mike was waiting for her because then all the other people in his office would see what he had done to Diva!! I wish we would of took her back in there for all of them to see! So once we got to the pets ER and explain what all had been going on .. They explained all of our options … We could of had them open her back up to make sure in fact it was a tumur and if it was they would take it out depending on the size of it and how much of the small intestine they would have to take out. She told us that we would have to pay 1200 down and after she opens her up and if it is a tumur .. the price to remove it depending on the size and all that it could of been up to 2 grand … and thats not including if she needs a blood transfusion … witch they said she probably would because Nolte hadn’t closed her up right and blood was everywhere all over my truck .. the side walk where we had been waiting for the pets er to open inside the office … it was bad. So since we don’t have money like that We were left with no choice but to put her down.. It was probably one of the hardest decisions for me… exspecially since I watched her be born in my kitchen almost 3 years ago…I’ll never forget it … it was really cold.. December 7th 2005. She was the only white one of the liter of 6 .. she was the only one who didnt yelp when she was picked up .. she would just lay there with you with no worries. as she got bigger she was the only pup who didnt constantly bark! So we explained to the kids (who I would of found a sitter for if I had any idea it would of been like that!) that Diva was really sick and had to go to doggy heaven… they both cried and said they didn’t want Diva to go with Poppop in heaven , that they missed her and wanted to take her home. It was really hard.. we all were in tears! I took the kids out to the truck and Mike stayed with Diva thru it all! I couldn’t do it! So we took Diva to my dads house and buried her and cried some more. It was the most horrific thing I ever had to see and go thru !

We are going to file a complaint against Nolte… We were told that he already has 6 lawsuits against him! After talking to a few friends they all said why did you take her there.. hes known to be a butcher.. And he sure did butcher Diva ! Someone should really take his license!!! And can you believe he takes care of the zoo’s animals???

  1. Is there anyway to get the word to EVERYONE about the Sby Butcher? This is out of control! This man needs to be stopped! Someone needs to stand outside of his office and let people know what is going on.
I'm sorry the family pet has been lost. No one will ever know what was really wrong. Hopefully your children will recover and find a new pet to love.

  2. I am wiping tears from my eyes as I write this.

I wish you had a picture of that poor poor animal in the condition that she was in. You need to have it blown up into a poster and stand in front of his office every day until he gives up his license.

I am so sorry for your family, it is just horrible.

  4. Calling Nolte a butcher is an insult to butchers. My sympathy to the family for the loss of their beloved pet. Where is PETA when you really need them??? This man needs to be shut down, put out of business before any more hearts are broken over lost pets.

  5. OMG!That pains me because I used to have a dog that looked alot like Diva, and as you all already know,I DID take my dog to this doctor-but just because I never had a problem doesnt negate all the stories coming in about his practice.
My dear hubby, who used to play dart league with Dr.Nolte, told me that everyone there called him "Dr Death" This is a heartbreaking issue, cannot imagine all the pain so many pet owners have gone through.

  7. Ok, my question is why hasnt an investigative repoter gone to this DR to interview him about these allegations? I see nothing in the papers or on this site (blog) letting this man defend himself.
Joe... have you tried to talk to him? I mean, if you are unbiased you would want his side, correct?
Sure its not your job to do so, but nor is it your job to post negative comments without getting to the truth about some of these posts.
Are they true? I have no idea. I know I have taken my cat to him for the last few years and she is fine.
Someone needs a sit down interview with this guy to get his story. Who is up to the task? Joe? WBOC? The Daily Times? Who will get the story?
Or will he claim no comment?

  8. Jim,

WMDT did a follow up story on him concerning a horse, I believe. I also believe he could not be reached for comment.

  9. Stacy from WMDT has made NUMEROUS attempts to talk with him and he has NEVER returned any calls. This makes me sick!! She is also currently doing other stories on several other animals that have died in his care. One of them being my sister in law who lost her dog there last month after getting "fixed"...and NEVER even called her to make her aware that the dog had passed, she called to check on the dog and he said..."she had a small problem" when asked, well is she ok now..."no, she is dead" was his answer. Complaints have been made and filed in writting to the St Bd of Vet Examiners. They have openly admitted that due to previous complaints his license was suspended on 3 different occasions and EVERY time, the suspension was waved.....hince, no consiquinces of his actions...meanwhile families are still losing loved ones!!! Please, ANYONE with complaints or concers (see my previous post from last month for number & address) call AND WRITE a formal complaint to the St Bd of Vet Examiners!!!

  10. The only thing this guy is proficient at is lifting 12 ounce bottles(an expert, I've seen him in action numerous times), and chatting up the ladies til "closing" time. Believe it or not, he has a very high opinion of himself. Why is anyone still using this slug?

  11. Last year my dog was not eating and would cry every time she moved. I went to Nolte's Office because it was the nearest animal office at that time. I ran up to the door with my sick dog "Bonita" and my seven year old son. Nolte told us there was nothing he could do because he was off. I was thinking in my head "You're a doctor right?" Long story short I headed across town to the Pet ER but I was too late. She died just prior to getting on RT. 50. The doctor's at Pet ER stated she may have made it if she was seen a little earlier. Thanks a lot Nolte...FOR NOTHING! She was in our family for five years and can never be replaced.

To the family of Diva. I feel your lost. You're not alone.

  12. My heart goes out to this family and every other individual that has been effected by this so called Dr....someone should treat Nolte they way he has treated these innocent animals that have no voice!!!

  13. My heart is breaking for this family, especially the children.

Anon 8:42pm said "Where is PETA when you really need them???"

Normally I would say that PETA members are over the top extremists, but maybe that's exactly what is needed in this case. No one else seems to be able to do anything about Nolte. PETA's number is 757-622-PETA (7382) or go to their website www.peta.org and send an email.

  14. AFter reading all of these stories over the past few weeks and knowing my own terror story, I will make sure I write to the md board. I have been putting it off but I need to along with the rest of you so that something can be done. He makes me sick! The memories are still so painful as if it happened yesterday and I realized the only way I will feel better is to write to them and just hope and pray he will be shut down...thats my only wish (along with other ones I prob should not write!))

  15. I hope the new zoo director and the mayor have read this, and by now, have fired Nolte from the zoo.
Best they take this guy to court and have his license revoced ASAP.

  16. Animal lover NOT! The only thing this jerk is capable of loving is himself! Just ask the many women around Salisbury that he's treated like he has his animals.I like to refer to him as Dr. Dog.

  17. These are horror stories & to think I take my pets there. That just ceased with this story. I can't imagine the pain you people must feel over this disaster with your dog. Joe will you keep your people posted on what's going on with these & other people who've had similiar experiences. Also post what's happening with Nolte!!`
    This is just unbelievable !!!!!
