On 08/23/08, at 8:05 pm, OCPD Officers responded to the area of 105 7th Street, in
reference to a motorcycle reported to be on fire.
Officers arrived at the scene and observed a Harley Davidson Motorcycle to be on fire.
Officers saw a male, later identified as the owner of the motorcycle, Joseph Lawrence
Waskey (40) years of age, of Ocean City, holding a garden hose attempting to put the
fire out. Officers used fire extinguishers eventually putting out the fire.
Deputy Fire Marshal Cliff Christello determined the fire had been deliberately set.
Investigation determined that Joseph Waskey’s wife identified as Barbara Waskey, (43)
years of age, of Rogersville, Tennessee, had left the area at the time of the fire.
Barbara Waskey returned to the scene and spoke to Police as well as Fire Marshal
personnel.
Investigators questioned the Waskey’s about the motorcycle being set on fire. It was
determined Barbara removed the motorcycle’s gas cap, stuffed a towel in the open gas
tank, and set the towel on fire. After which Barbara left the area. Investigators also recovered the motorcycle’s gas cap from Barbara Waskey’s car after she returned to the scene.
Ocean City Deputy Fire Marshal, Cliff Christello placed Barbara Waskey placed under
arrest for: 2nd Degree Arson, Malicious Burning and Reckless Endangerment.
Barbara Waskey was seen by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner, and held on
$50,000 bond.
