Up, Down, Up, Down!

At 1:30 PM today the Draw Bridge stopped traffic Downtown once again. How's that 99.9% figure working for you now Chiefy? Someone asked me why I was so obsessed with this Bridge going up so often. The reason is, Gary Comegys and Chiefy See assured everyone that it rarely ever goes up any more and that's just not true.

  1. Why won't anyone from the City or SHA come forward about this? I mean it clearly happens more than it should and without warning.

Here's the funny thing. If we were to do road work in the City, we must first publish a notice in the Daily Rag, hand out notices to all local residences, present a traffic control plan to council for approval, set up barricades, have staff on site full time during closure, etc. all just so we don't hinder traffic flow on a piss-ant City street.

Now, look at this photo. No notice at all that this road would be closed. On top of that, it's not some bs little street in town - It's the f'in United States Route 50 business! A bit heavier flow than Monitor Ct or Cypress St wouldn't you say?

If it is up for maintenance then they should be required to post a damn schedule. If not for the commuting public but also for emergency services.

Jesus-Jumped-Up-Christ this town is f'in joke sometimes!

  2. *NEWS FLASH* The bridge is used on a daily basis. Can we please move on to a new subject. Joe with all due respect you run a great blog site, but this is really starting to get ridiculous. Between the articles every time the bridge goes up and the daily pictures of where See/Comegys are parked, the quality of your blog is starting to reflect that of a tabloid such as the Weekly World News.

  7. Dear Mr. See & or Gordy,

For the record, I don't have a Daughter.

I let this one through so people can see just how the Salisbury Fire Department reacts to ANYONE who challenges their credibility.

  10. Well, a while ago on the June 19, 2008 post, it was said that the bridge would not be used 99.5% of the time. .5% of a day gives you a little more than 7 minutes. I believe that the average cycle time for the Route 50 bridge is roughly 8-10 minutes. Keep in mind that there are days that the bridge never opens, although the 99.5% number might be ambitious, I do not think if you average the time over a month or two it would not be far off.

I am unsure if the issue is with the frequency of use vs what someone estimated or a traffic burden. I believe that the bridge operator will not purposely raise the bridge if he know there is an immediate need for emergency access.

Also, the waterway was in place long before Route 50 and vessels actually have the right of way through the area.

WHat exactly is it happens more than it should mean. Do you know the businesses that the boats are going to schedule. I doubt it. THere is no set amout of times it is supposed to go up. SUppose the business massively grow. and the bridge goes up once an hour. what are you going to do then. GO AROUND IT TAKES FIVE OR TEN EXTRA MINUTES PEOPLE. ARENT EVERONES LIFE STRESSFULL ENOUGH WITH OUT FLIPPING OUT ABOUT STUPID SHIT. The bridge issue is inconvenient. That is it. No hazzard just a pain in the ass.

  12. It is pretty lame to keep hearing how often the Draw Bridge is used!

IT"S A DRAWBRIDGE FOR CHRIST SAKE!

That is what it is designed to do.

Joe - Everytime you post this it appears you are just filling holes becasue you have nothing else to write about.

  17. I believe the whole point of this is that people who were against the fire station being built where it is because of the bridge being up often and the trucks having to go around were told that the bridge almost never is up. But from what Joe seems to post, it is up almost every day, anywhere from 1-5 times in a day! Am I right, Joe?
