Not too early to consider who will be next mayor

From The Daily Times:

"It is almost that time again; in February it will be time to elect a mayor of Salisbury. I know it is early, but it is now time to stop and think about what our present mayor has not done for our great city.

Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman has been in office the better part of three terms. If we look back to when she was first elected, not much has changed for the betterment of the city.

The West Side is still the mess it has been, with little or no change. Our police department deserves a bigger raise than 1 percent, but the money was used for other things.

Our mayor has made the city bigger, but not better in many ways. Our water still has not been fixed and our water bills keep going up.

It is past time for a change.

These are a few of the things that need changing. I am, hopefully, your next mayor.

Michael Della Penna III

Salisbury

Note: Mr. Della Penna ran for mayor in 2005, but lost in the primary election."

Isn't this the Pizza Delivery Guy? NO, this is not the person I was going to mention a couple of weeks ago.

  1. I voted for him in 2005 and would again next year if it's him and Bubba ("R Necks Mare") Comegys and/or Barrie.

  2. The election in 2005 was bizarre. Mr. Della Penna ran a good (and clean) campaign with little funding, and was an unknown. Barrie bashed him as being a "come here" and because of his job, but he did well under the circumstances. Unfortunately he lost to her and a guaranteed loser, so the general election was decided in the primary, even though she got less than a majority in the primary.

In the weeks before the general election her opponent in that, who also had little funding, revealed himself as a clown but still got about 40% as I recall even though with the help of landlords and developers Barrie spent tons of money and had signs everywhere, as well as the Daily Times ra-ra.

Obviously she (or Comegys) will have those advantages next year, too.

  3. Let me throw in MY two cents.

This guy is simply looking for attention. He hasn't given a sh!t about the state of the City because he hasn't been to ONE Council Meeting. I know, I'be to them all with exception of a couple.

The next Mayor needs to be someone who has been attending the meetings and completely understands the heart of the City. That leaves only two or three candidates. This guy is NOT one of them.

  4. Another interesting aspecyt of the 2005 City election is Debbie Campbell's win over an opponent, Michael Day, who was Barrie's puppy at the time and had the support of her, the landlords and the developers. The Daily Times published scathing attacks on Ms. Campbell by the then incumbent "Dream Team" on the City Council (Dunn, Cathcart and Comegys) and refused to print a letter by her boss that was highly complimentary. Although the vote was close, it was a real upset -- the biggest one in Salisbury that I can recall.

  5. Joe:

I agree, generally with your comment, but would you not vote for him over Bubba Comegys or Barrie Tilghman?

  6. My honest answer would be, (and I'm sure most feel the same way) I wouldn't vote period.

It's NOT a matter of spiteful voting. You don't just vote for someone because you hate the other person.

Sadly in America, people are not at all happy with the candidates running for office and choose not to vote at all.

Look at this Presidential Race. Talk about two piece of shit candidates. I'm more then just pissed off at the Republican and Democratic committees!!!! This is ALL you've got? Give me a F-N break!

So anyway, my answer is, I wouldn't vote at all because this guy is a nobody and he'll never gain this Blogs support. He would have had to be earning it and he's never done so. IMHO, he's a joke simply looking for attention.

  7. How about Bob Caldwell? Or let's make it real interesting - Carolyn or Rachel. They certainly know Barrie's dirty politics and have a love of this city. If a virtually unknown can almost unseat her, someone of their character can definately beat her. Come on Joe, find us a good one!

  8. Bob Caldwell could be the next Mayor if he should decide to run.

He seems like a very good person for the job.

On the other hand,if Comegy is elected our next Mayor, then LORD HELP THE CITY OF SALISBURY. And just think, he probably will still plan to hold his SHA job simultaneously as Mayor costing the taxpayers DOUBLE!

I really don't think the people of Salisbury are that dumb. But then again, I didn't think Washington would re-elect a crack-smoking, hooker soliciting derelict politician like Barry.

Good comment. Thank goodness Ms. Campbell won in 2005, and let's hope she keeps on. If this blog had been there then, it would not have been close.

And if Joe Albero had been around in 2002, Duke Shanahan would be the mayor now.

In those elections nobody exposed or refuted the Daily Slime's slant in support of their prime advertisers -- landlords and developers -- who profit greatly by backing the likes of Barrie Tilghman and Bubba Comegys, etc.

  11. Joe:

Understand your concern about him, but they elected a movie actor, without official experience as gov. in California who did a real number there and later in DC.

The "pizza delivery guy" may not be another Reagan, but his heart and mind are in the right place, and he is personally aware and concerned about the mess Barrie and Bubba have created as his letter and 2005 campaign have made clear.

Please stay in touch with Me. Della Penna, and try to make him a more frequent commentator -- perhaps a council seat would be a possibility, too, especially if he's in Shameless Shields' district.

  12. Gary Comegys will have trouble defending the lies he has spewed since being on council. He will also have the backing of deep pockets Bill Gordy as his campaign manager, another liar and wannabe thug.

Doug Hampshire is a surveyor, his firm has worked closely with developers for decades. Look for SAPOA and other developers to back him and dump Bubba.

Rachel Polk has moved on to bigger and better things in life. Why would or should she subject herself and her family to all that is rotten in Salisbury?

Carolyn Hall would be a good candidate although I don't believe she is interested in that position at this time.

Bob Caldwell is a good man, I don't think he can win the majority of the votes.

Tim Spies is another great candidate and could win if only he'd run.

Jim Ireton is yet another great candidate, deeply involved in the communities of the entire county, not just the city.

We have a few good choices, just keep your eyes and ears open for the likes of yet another Louise Smith sitting in your living room telling outright lies.

It is going to get interesting, that's for sure.

  13. BS! IF his heart was in the right place he would have stood up to Barie Tilghman and this Council and said his peace regularly. Obviously he agrees with everything they stand for, other wise he would have been there at the Council Meetings and Work Sessions.

It's just another vote for Barrie Tilghman if someone were to vote for this guy. Like I said, it's all about loading up the field and getting attention.

  14. Joe, I tend to agree, and feel those that are coming forward this early are FOB's. And I agree with 11:08 on some of the people mentioned. My personal favorites are Tim Spies (who had his council seat stolen by Bubba), and Jim Ireton, who has worked long and hard behind the scenes as well as in front with the Dirty Dozen and others. I prefer to see Mr. Caldwell continue as a support mechanism for either of these 2. Or perhaps have him take Pick's place!

  15. How about Mr. Della Penna runing for Shanie's seat if he is in her district?

  16. JIM IRETON FOR MAYOR.

    That is all.

  17. I,too, voted for him back then. And I LOVE his name!

  18. reminds me of the way Louweasal snuck in tha back door. never at council meetings to speak up, now wants to be mayor? Where were you when we needed new faces during public comment Michael?

  19. 644 I would ask that of all that intend to run for office. Where have you been all of this time? The only people I see at the meetings regularly, on PAC 14, are Ireton, Spies, Caldwell and Hall. Hall isn't there very often, the rest of the names I see listed are not seen anywhere at any time.

  20. I wouldn't be surprised to see another candidate emerge. The problem we have now is that the city government is divided into two camps...and you have to be allied with one or the other. However, nothing gets done that way. I would like to see a candidate emerge who wouldn't be for either side, but would actually improve the city!!!! Someone who may not have been involved before but knows what they are talking about!

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you ask me, the "two camps" was created by the One Camp currently in power, with a little help from their friends at the Daily Crime.

When I voted for Cohen and Spies last year, it wasn't because they were in a "camp."

Unless you want to say they are in MY camp -- the PEOPLE'S camp!

Debbie Campbell is the same way.

I'm going to vote for a candidate who shares MY values, that the current power mongers waste my money and abuse my trust.

So far, I'm in for Jim Ireton. I don't get the feeling Tim Spies would run.

Every time I hear Ireton speak, I hear real concern (and intelligence), not some mumbo jumbo.

I may not be a genius myself, but every time I listen to Shanie Shields, Gary Comegys or Louise Smith, I want to scream at the stupidity. I canNOT believe anyone can sound as stupid as those three do.

  23. It is bad when you judge someone before you even know what the person stands for. The "PIZZA MAN" as he has been called might have more knowledge than you think. He seems to know what the pulse of the city is and what need to be done to rid it of the current no performing mayor and her cronies.

In the last election there were things that never came to light that the people of Salisbury never knew.
If in the last election more of our people would have came out to vote than maybe he would have won. "IS that what scares everyone?"
As far as going to the council meetings why bother it is only the show that the GOOD OLD BOYS put on. You can watch the circus on TELEVSION. If you do go as I have a few times and when I wanted to speak I was told there was no time.
This CITY needs someone new and fresh to get things done and make OUR CITY a great place to live and RAISE a family.
So maybe we need the "PIZZA MAN " to clean things up.
I doubt if you will publish this as you are afraid of free speach.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The PIZZA man has never been to a Council Meeting. Enough said.

  25. Joe,
You keep mouthing off about The Great City OF Salisbury and what is wrongwith it. Why dont you run for office yourself or is it that you do not live within the city limits? You have a mouth to run other people down with out knowing them or about them or what they stand for.
What gives you the right to pass judgement?
Our city needs to stand together and to make Salisbury a Great Place to live and raise a family. Time for change for the better not worse. Please lets find common ground and rid the city of the GOOD OLD BOY's and Tilghman and Webster
