While you'd expect there to be bumper to bumper traffic on the Bypass for Labor Day Weekend, that's just not the case this year. The cars are few and far between, probably because of the back up at the Bay Bridge. Nonetheless, this has got to be killing Ocean City business! Be safe this weekend Folks.
i think alot of the kids are back in school already joe, the parents did the vacation thing earlier in the summer.
ReplyDeleteEven Secrets has made huge staff cutbacks!
ReplyDeleteThe Jim Long Band got cut from 6 days a week to 3.
While the property remains one of OC's most popular clubs they are hurting!
Can you say "outpriced itself"? Why would a family go to Ocean City and pay the outragious prices for a hotel, wait in line at overpriced restaurants... when you can travel somewhere really nice for much less. Ocean City just isn't worth the money it cost to vacation there. They got too greedy.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Bayrunner Shuttle, the traffic is running smoothly, no backups.
ReplyDeleteI was suprised today also. I had to go the Pines just a little a while ago. Though I work in OC everyday I try to stay away on weekends but i needed something. I was shocked as there was almost no traffic at Stephen Decatur all the way to 589. Normally its a mad house around noon
ReplyDeleteOcean City is over priced and over rated. You can spend a week in Florida for what it costs for a weekend in Maryland Family Resort. What a joke. Those businesses get what they deserve for all of the gauging they do all year.
ReplyDeleteI was coming home from mardela last night at around 10:30 pm. There was more traffic coming down 50 towards OC than the last 2 days.I feel sorry for the folks who would have already booked for labor day and had no choice.
ReplyDeleteWHAT CAME TO MY MIND WAS GUSTAV....IMAGINE JUST FOR A MOMENT THAT IT WAS HAPPENING HERE.WE ALL SHOULD FEEL VERY LUCKY...IF THAT LARGE OF A STORM HIT THE EAST COAST, A 4 OR 5 HURRICANE?????
PLEASE PRAY FOR ANYONE IN ITS PATH.
You must not have traveled north on Rt 13. Traffic was very heavy there yesterday and today the north bound lanes are full with the usual PA/NJ/NY traffic going home from vacation. Unfortunately, I don't think they are leaving OC.
ReplyDelete5:18 is right. I was on 13 North in front of the Centre today, and almost got t-boned by some idiot New Yorker coming off of the bypass. It was bumper-to-bumper up there.
ReplyDeleteLet me explain a little something to ALL of you. I stood on Rt. 50 last night near the Shorebirds Stadium and there was NO traffic. Then I stood at the same exact location this morning, again, NO trafic. I also drove the Bypass today and yesterday. Again, NO traffic. Now there may have been some traffic near the Mall but let me assure you, it wasn't going towards Ocean City. I have no reason to lie and I also have 10+ witnesses.
ReplyDeleteI'm not calling you a liar, Joe-- I was just saying what I saw today up by the mall. I saw a hoard of out-of-state drivers up there today around lunchtime. I will say that other than that, I haven't noticed any beach traffic either.
ReplyDeleteAt 11L39 this morning we went to How Sweet It is for mulch. When we came back the bypass was and merged into RT 50 at Shorebird stadium, we were shocked...jOE IS RIGHT NO traffic. We were towing a trailer and it is usually hard to get out onto FT 50 at that point, not today. we sailed right across to Winterplace Park ..
ReplyDeleteNo one says you're lying, Joe. It's just that Rt 13 gets lots of traffic in the weekend due to the Outer Banks vacationers. Having been there this summer, I can tell ya, I'll never go back to OC for vacation. OBX Rules!
ReplyDeleteMost labor day weekends are down for different reasons. However,it's no secret that most businesses have seen a decline in volume because of our economy.Although my business is doing great,my customers, from all walks of life, tell me it's tough out there.
ReplyDelete"their is no economy
ReplyDeletehells-bells my friend.
The State of MD also advised people to avoid the Bay Bridge, thereby killing any possible holiday travel. There was a 2 mile backup at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Bridge staff waived tolls for two hours Friday afternoon into early evening. Where did these cars go? Obviously, not to OC or the Salisbury-area.
ReplyDeleteThere is plenty of traffic in Ocean City!
