Fernando Guerrero Holds Press Conference Today

Trainer/Manager Hal Chernoff and Fernando Guerrero met today with all of the Local Press to discuss his upcoming fight Saturday night in Tunica, Mississippi against Fernando Barajs. The two will leave tomorrow to fly down South against a 4-1 Professional Fighter who's a right handler. I asked Fernando how he felt going up against other Professional Fighters who's records aren't as good as his own? He replied, people tend to forget that I have 146 amateur fights under my belt as well, so you never know just how many fights these other Fighters have. One punch can make the entire difference.

I then asked about the plausibility of ESPN coming to Salisbury and they stated that the dates are all working for the Civic Center, the Promoter, now it's up to ESPN to work it into their schedule. We're talking about August 15th of 2008, just a few weeks away.

We should have some kind of answer very soon if ESPN can work it into their schedule and I'm talking about knowing some time this evening or tomorrow. As soon as we know we'll pas it along.

So here's the big question Folks. IF Fernando, Hal & ESPN can in fact work out this date for a televised event, will YOU support it? I'm told the tickets could be as low as $15.00 each. Will you go? Will you bring your kids, friends and family members?

The reason I'm pushing this is because if ESPN were to see a strong local support, they'd consider holding far more events right here at home. Let's show these two our support. Let me know what you think?

Fernando is currently undefeated at 8 wins, ZERO losses!

  1. I have been following boxing for more or less 20 years, I would love to see a fight here is Salisbury (as well as cheering the hometoen hero)

  2. I'll gladly go see this fellow fight.

As much as I hate to see a portion of ringside seat ticket revenues surcharge go toward the GWE - (Great White Elephant) - I'll suck-it-up to see this action.

On the other hand, maybe I could possibly broker a deal to use a ticket exemption surcharge as leverage to hold the fight in Salisbury instead of Dover Downs Casino.

Joe. . . I need you to chime in here on this one. Remember, the Wicomico County Civic Center is now charging ticket surcharges and 1% hotel room tax pursuant to newly enacted Maryland legislation.

Delaware shouldn't be ruled out . . .in light of the above.

  3. $15 is a steal, even if he win's by knockout in the first round. I'll be there. I'll definately do my best to inform others in hopes of a good crowd. These two are the BEST thing happening in Salisbury right now.

I grew up watching, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns along with many more free on ABC sports.

People like Fernado and Hal are really what put small towns on the map. Not the newest bigest Mall. George Foreman did more for Easton PA. than any business of that area.

  4. tax on $15 would be far less than the gas it would cost to drive to Dover Duh

  5. Mr. Guerrero...I follow your progress with great optimism for our youth and community..may need you to help me use your local gym against "Dungeons and Dragons" type DT staffer who has nothing but continued, unbelievably hurtful, things to say about the suffering deer in our zoo...(read his own words, not mine-I can't make this up). If I promise contractually to stay away from Don King, and somehow lose 50 pounds of muscle mass, can I get on one of your undercards?Seriously!!

  6. Put me down for four tickets which I will donate for youth to go to the fight.

  7. yeah, ill defintaly be there. A former boxer myself, i find it hard to believe that tickets would be that low. Trust me when i tell you, they will be no less then $35 for crappy seats. On average, tickets will be $500 for a table of 10 people, up to $1000 for a table of 10 with ringside. Just my experience that is usual cost. Would be great if they were cheaper but what ever it is, id pay it to see the kid throw down.

  8. I wouldn't mind going but my wife doesn't get into that type of thing and almost none of my friends are into the fights. Might just have to attend by myself if the tickets are that cheap.
