Another Police Officer Chimes In

Whoever wrote this article (keep it clean or i'll turn off the comments" is an enlightened man.

Unfortunately, many people dislike the police. And, further, hold them accountable for everything that goes wrong in their lives and have the ability to express their frustration on this blog.

However, first and foremost, to my understanding, the SPD officer has not been charged internally with anything to date. Further, the writer of the article is correct. Although it may violate departmental policy, it is not against the law to transport beer in a marked police vehicle.

Lastly, no doubt there is tension between SPD and WCSO. However, there are people externally that wish that tension to continue and are no doubt posting comments under anonymous to that effect. Those who are internally to policing posting negative comments about others in policing, including those in your own department, should be ashamed of yourselves. You are cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Administration of police agencies depend on internal strife to keep officers and deputies from banding together to take a stand against improper internal charging and intimidation from administration. If police officers put 1/2 the effort into banding together to form a solid union with teeth or have further muscle, benefits would improve as well as other perks. Also, administration would cease to create bullshit internals because they know that cops that stick together are much more formidable then a divided agency. I wouldn’t put it past administration to post some of these comments in order to keep officers and deputies separated internally. It’s a tried and true tactic for maintaining control over personnel.

In short, the more officer’s and deputies fight internally or amongst themselves, the more administrative power grows to suppress change for the better for you and your family. Think of dedicating yourself to the thin blue line instead of throwing mud at each other. We are all cops providing a service for the common good. We must protect ourselves against criminals, death, serious personal injury, and disreputable administrative tactics to suppress our success in supporting ourselves and our families. We need to stick together. Wave at each other in traffic. Back each other up on calls. Although we may not like each other individually, we must set this aside when we come to work and travel within the thin blue line each day.

  1. Police officers are often held to the HIGHEST STANDARD! This is a very good example of why law enforcement is so difficult a profession to recruit qualified candidates to. The things that make this standard a double one are a State's Attorney charged with DUI,Poss. A Loaded Handgun and doing so while operating a County vehicle and then receives a slap on the wrist. While a Deputy commits serious, yet lesser, offenses and will no doubt be terminated and banished from serving in any law enforcement capacity, most likely, forever. Lawyer's I have first hand knowledge of in this county have committed similar and even far more serious offenses just to walk in to work Monday and receive a slap on the wrist from both the court and the Attorney Grievance Commission. This has always angered me and personally compromises my respect for many of these different groups of "Professionals".This is indeed a sad state of affairs that no doubt occurs throughout our Great Nation!

  2. If you can't be Sgt. Mike Carey then act like him, train under him and you will learn to be a real cop! Hear that Mike Lewis? That goes for your men too.

  4. This I would LOVE to see. It will be a cold day in Hell before Mike Lewis gets beat by ANYONE running for Sheriff.

That's almost as funny as waqtching Barrie Tilghman run for Mayor again and watch just how many people she thinks are her friends vote her ass OUT of Office!

Please Barrie, I'm begging you, please run for Mayor again?

I also can't wait for that infamous statement like Mike Dunn said, I'm NOT running again because of that Blogger! ROTFLMAO!

  5. Hasn't been a post for this one in hours, mmmmmm. Law Enforcement in Wicomico County,I might know a little something about that. The job has always been competitive (Not so sure now, not too many folks want to work at such low pay). This area for a very long time has not had a "Brotherhood", they make it look that way when needed. Too many guys and gals in the job act like they are better than the next guy/gal. Police departments have "clicks", back stabbers, those bucking for promotion, those who shouldn't have been promoted, and so on. Sounds like a typical work place, Huh? BECAUSE it is. Policing has changed with the liberal times.

You get what you vote for.

  6. Carey is a better man at a much higher PERSONAL standard. He is integrity through and through. Beyond that of even Lewis.

  9. The comment about Mike Carey, I believe was taken entirely the wrong way. I think the first post was basically just saying that other officers should strive to be like Mike Carey. He is a great guy, fair and straight forward. I don't think anyone really meant to say that he should run for sheriff (though he would make a great sheriff). He is just a great guy to work for and trys to make everything fair for everyone, he doesn't have favorites (like Mike Lewis does).
