Salisbury - All's Well in the Land of Low Taxes, Toys and Safety

If I didn't know better I would swear that our own Daily Times had shifted from (supposedly) being a newspaper to becoming a humor mag. Unfortunately not.

This morning we learn that Salisbury Councilwoman Louise Smith WON'T support higher taxes. I haven't heard anything so humorously absurd since a friend of mine stood before the Wicomico Republican Club and stated that, "we need more principled candidates like Louise Smith" on the very night last year when she voted to make way for a double digit tax increase while admitting that she had been too busy to read Mayor Barrie Tilghman's proposed budget.

Councilman Gary Comegys won't support more police and firefighters because "firefighters needed their toys". The next time you meet a Salisbury VOLUNTEER firefighter, let them know that you really appreciated their service until Comegys told you that these folks are only in it for the toys.

Councilwoman Shanie Shields, Salisbury's resident one woman brain trust, doesn't want more police officers. "Crime is not a problem in Salisbury." I can only assume that Shields believes that the recent run of murders within the city is simply God's way of thinning the surplus population.

Just when you believe that the level of absurdity in Barrieland may have leveled off, Smith, Comegys or Shields open their mouths.

  1. Maybe, for the sake of accuracy, you should start referring to the rag as "National Lampoon's Daily Times."

  2. Wow...the ridiculity ensues. I am shocked to believe that the voters of Salisbury have had the wool pulled over their eyes this badly. Crime is not a problem in Salisbury? Shanie must live outside the city limits. In parts of Salisbury, I don my kevlar and ballistic vest. The level of disconnect between the Council and the constituency is absolutely absurd. March can't get here quick enough.

  3. I could NOT believe what I read! But then again, sadly, I COULD!

Glad this new reporter is showing these buffoons and baboons for what they are!

  4. Gary says the volunteers won't volunteer unless they get their "toys!" Louise says she "is not going to support raising taxes" - though she did last year. AND Shanie says "crime is not a problem!"

    Gary = Barrie
    Shanie = Barrie
    Louise = Barrie

  5. Of course the weasel won't support ANOTHER tax increase, not in a year where her pimp might be running for reelection OR her future pimp is going to run. Wait until next year and see what happens.

IF the Vollies like new toys, let the VOLLIES buy the new toys. (read vollies as BILL GORDY) The volunteer services are not and should not be the burden of the taxpayers that's why they collect donations from the citizens.

Shanie get off your barstool at the VFW and pay attention. There were 3 murders in 12 days, all YOUR PEOPLE, by YOUR PEOPLE, as a matter of fact. That's 3 possible votes you just lost.

  6. Is it just me or does anyone else think that maybe the firefighters at the new station don't need a Playstation 3, an Xbox 360, a Wii, several games and two gigantic tv's in their "lounge?"

  7. crime is not up in her area, it has spread city wide. there isn't a street within the city limits that you are completely safe

  8. Wait until Shanie figures out that a reduction in the number of police officers would leave more money in the budget for twinkies.

  10. As a firefighter I am embarassed to hear Councilman Comegys say we want our toys. This is not the case at all. This is not what motivates us to do the job. The firefighters of Salisbury take great pride in serving our citizens for the reward of a job well done. The fleet of equipment is well maintained and far better than most departments. The other equipment we use to do our jobs is quite adequate and superior to many.
Mr comegys statement is childish and quite frankly an insult to firefighters in Salisbury. He needs to understand that people put out fires and not TOYS. Fire apparatus are a necessary part of the equasion, but they are no good without adequate staffing.

  11. Mrs. Shields clearly demonstrates that she has no clue of the crime situation in Salisbury. She is out of touch and asleep at the wheel. Ask any officer of the three local forces and they will tell you the crime in Salisbury is out of control.
It has all the necessary ingredients. Better than 70 % rental properties, unkept properties and absenty landlords. Low social economic standard of living and a thriving drug market. With the latter brings the criminals from neighboring communities. The "If you have it they will come" principle. It has a City that has failed to keep up with growth and a failure to provide adequate basic services.

The last and most important is a government that denies all the above and fails to provide proper Police protection to keep it's citizens safe. Thats why officers don't stay here long. High call volume, low pay and lack of support.

  12. After last night, anyone who supports Bubba for "ya nex mare" has got to be certifiable. What an insult to the volunteer firefighters; no wonder they hate his guts. As for Shameful Shanie, she is just clueless. If she ever wakes up to reality, she could be dangerous. And we all know what the weasel is: a liar who can't make a move without her puppet strings being pulled by mare or bubba. IMO, of course. Wish we could clone Terry and Debbie. Great article, G.A.

  13. Dear Mr. Jet Black Firefighter,

I am WITH you, brother! Comegys' comment is a HUGE insult to the Vollies.

Thank you for supporting exactly what Terry Cohen said about Vollies, that this was insulting. And she's pushed what you are saying, that "Fire apparatus are a necessary part of the equation, but they are no good without adequate staffing."

Folks, turn out for the June 9 meeting on the budget and let Comegys, Shields and Smith know exactly what we think of THEIR damn budget using OUR money!

I heard they play Xbox 360 on the wide screen TV all day long at the Brown Street station as well. Not just the volunteers, but the paid guys. That's what the city needs more paid fireman to play games all day long.

  17. B.S. about the paid guys playing all day long. They are the ones that keep the current equipment and stations clean and operational.

  18. they wash their cars, smoke cigarettes, and cook out every time we go past. I'm not saying they don't work, or save lives...but on the off time it looks pretty gravy. I wish other public servants had it so good.

  19. Vollies:

How about a "muster" at the next City Council meeting to give Bubba Comegys the middle-finger salute.

  20. I gotta toy for Comegys.

Bend over, Bubba, like a good boy.

  21. No insult to anyone.
Firemen have always had to have there toys.
Multi million dollar ones at that.
The murders are due to a lack of jobs in this fine commuity.
Plus the drugs and the cost of living.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Cost of living wouldn't be so high if Barrie, Gary, Dunn, Cathcart, Shields, Smith didn't give the city away to their developer buddies.

  24. The Vollie's haven't forgotten how Louise gave them the shaft after they supported her campaign.

I can only believe that the Vollies will have their crosshairs pointed at comegys to see his butt crushed as a little pay-back time.

  25. Louise - ?
Comegys - one dumb, wanna be, idiot. I can't believe anyone would vote for that lying low life.
Since he has some ego driven reply for everything, I have one for you...F.U.. You are a disgusting pig of a man. And I will tell you this to your face next meeting.

Shannie - She Doesn't see any problem because her type is the problem.

  26. How can Gary and Shanie insult us like this with such statements--we need to show these clowns the door. I want nothing to do with these people--they do not represent me.

  27. IUQGDHWHEN YOU HAVE A MIND COMPAREABLE TO A CHILD, WHATS THE FIRST WORD YOU COMPREHEND , TOYS! THE SBY CITY COUNSEL VP IS LOST IN SPACE! MAN WHAT A JOKE FOR OTHER COUNTIES AND STATES TO SEE WHAT A JOKE THE CITY IS. SO SAD THAT HIM AND LESS BRAINIE SHANIE AND THAT HAGGARD MARE CAN EVEN SIT UP THERE AND LOOK PPL IN THE FACE AND LIE AND STILL COME BACK THE NEXT WEEK . JOE, THANKS FOR OPENING UP ALL THE WORM CANS BEHIND THIS DEMISE OF THE CITY OF SBY .

  28. Be afraid city residents! No more police to be added to the force, no raise for the current force, increased workload, low morale and three murders in a month equals disaster. I see another mass exodus of officers to other departments. You couldn't pay me to live in Salisbury!

  29. It is 12 midnight and a man has just been shot at 613 E. Church St. The victim is lying in the front yard and the Shanie is on scene claiming everything is fine and this was an accident. It wasn't related to drugs and crime. Wow do I feel better. All is well.

  30. Crimson Tide, don't worry, 150 more police couldn't have stopped that from happening. That person was targeted, not like they were shot at random or anything.

  31. Turn out Monday night at 6 when these three CLOWNS are ready to pass THEIR budget with OUR money and tell them what you think!

And if Louweasel Smith tries to shut you down, tell her to stick her gavel where HER government don't shine!

My observation tells me these statements by Bubba has Bill Gordy's fingerprints all over it. Not only is the mare pulling Bubba's strings, but Bill Gordy is as well.

Who do you think was Bubba's campaign manager for the past two elections? Who do you think is going to be Bubba's campaign manager for mare? The one and only Bill Gordy. Who was an outsider from the Delmar Fire Department that was brought in as the 3rd ranking Chief in the entire fire department. Never in the history of the Salisbury Fire Department has an outsider come in through the volunteers and given so much power.

The voluteers can't stand Bubba or the mare, but they are afraid of retaliation from them which has happened numerous times. These people are corrupt and they have ruined years of history and tradition in the Salisbury Fire Department.

New toys? Guess who is getting a brand new car and all the gas they can burn with this budget? That's right, Bubba's Boy Billy Gordy. Why does a volunteer need a brand new car when he is not even needed or required to run on emergency calls. With the cost of fuel these days the chief's cars need to stay parked and not used as a take home car. The city tax payers can't afford to continue to be raped.

  33. I was told by a city policeman to carry a handgun when walking after supper for my exercise.Too dangerous not to. It's better to be judged in court by 12 than carried by 6 to your grave.

These council approvals need to be PRIORITIZED, according to need.
We don't need to be the greatest little corrupt city in America. We don't need a million dollar addition to the ZOO(again. We don't need 5 NEW FIRE TRUCKS. Get thwe ones you have fixed. And when is the last time we NEEDED a fire boat, if ever. Could go on, but gotta run...
