O'Malley Appointee Doesn't Qualify for Office

The last time I checked, to serve on a county liquor licensing board you had to be (not only) a Maryland resident, but a resident of the county where your appointment rests. True to form, little things like this don't bother Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley.

John Wade, who was recently disqualified as a candidate for the Princess Anne Town Commission because he failed the residency requirement, is an O'Malley appointee to the Somerset County Board of Liquor License Commissioners.

Wade has a driver's license from Georgia, is reportedly driving a car with New Jersey tags, and reportedly has a residence in Delaware! By Somerset County standards, the man is absolutely cosmopolitan.

It seems that Wade is just one more example of the type of governance we can continue to expect from O'Malley. Let's keep trying to raise those taxes and leave little things like the law to others.

  2. O'Malley has failed to appoint new board members for Wicomico county's liquor board and would think he's a left over from Ehrlich appointments.

I can't stand Martin "never met a tax I didn't like" O'Malley so I have no reason to think otherwise. I don't think the governor even knows this is an obligation that has been neglected long enough.

Maybe I should send him an e-mail and ask him when he has time from thinking of more way to tax a person, he might consider doing a job that is already expected of him.

    Let her know.

Wade wasn't an Ehrlich hold over. In fact, he was the new Democrat appointed when M O'M took office. (The board has to be two of the governor's party and one of the other party. Van Muir is the only republican on the board.)

  5. For quite some time now the Democrat Party has been linked to crooked politicians and corruption. This is quite evident in the city of Salisbury government. Bubba, Barrie,etc... Need I say more.

    Wake up America!!

My point is if we have a democrat as a governor, why do we have 2 republicans on the liquor board? Instead of two democrats the way it is supposed to be?

  10. Section 15-101 Appointment by governor

(a)(1) For the jurisdictions in which this section is effective, the Governor, biennially, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, if in session, and if not in session, then the Governor alone, shall appoint three persons who shall constitute and be styled "The Board of License Commissioners for Baltimore City or ............... County", as the case may be.

    (2) In making the appointments, the Governor shall designate one of the appointees in Baltimore City and each of the counties to be the chairman of the respective boards.

    (3) The commissioners shall be residents and voters of Baltimore City or the respective counties, as the case may be, and they shall be persons of high character and integrity and of recognized business capacity.

    (4) In the case of any vacancies in the number of the license commissioners in Baltimore City or in any county which occur when the legislature is not in session, the Governor shall appoint some eligible person to fill the vacancy during the remainder of the term of office of the person originally appointed.

  12. Well if he appointed Wade the governor surely isn't doing any background checking on appointments.
