Bike Week Is Coming To Salisbury
A year or so ago I went to Jim Fineran and said, why don't you get Bike Week to come to Salisbury, Winter Place Park? At the time he thought I was nuts but I explained many of the complications they had been experiencing in Ocean City and considering Salisbury was a perfect area to ride to and from, why couldn't this become a reality?
Well I am very pleased to announce that Bike Week WILL be held at Winter Place Park from September 11th to the 14th and I for one am stoked! I love it when a plan comes together and obviously Gary Mackes made it work for everyone involved.
Sunset Ave in West Ocean City will be another large area where Bikers will gather but Salisbury may just become the major hub for this event in years to come. Congratulations Wicomico County.
Now let's hear the bitching begin! It's too loud. I don't like the traffic. You know what, shut up and enjoy the economic and development in Wicomico County for once.
do you have any idea what the activities might be, surly they wont just sit around in a field.
ReplyDeleteYou'll need to contact Bennett at the OC Harley Davidson Shop.
ReplyDeleteSeptember 11th thru the 14th is a ways away yet and I'm sure by the time the event rolls around we'll have updates.
Sounds like a great idea. For those that complain about the "noise", just remind them that bikers tend to spend alot of money. Most of us are just folk.
ReplyDeleteI'll spread this around to the biker community .... I'm sure a website will be coming up soon.
That's BRUCE Bennett at OC Harley Davidson, 410-629-1599
ReplyDeleteSunset Avenue in West OC? Where on Sunset? There are no large parking areas.....
ReplyDeleteI have been to bike week in OC for the past two years and I really didn't see any problems other than parking for those who were not on bikes. That problem is not going to be solved with it at Winterplace in fact there will be much less parking for vehicles and for non-bikers to enjoy the festivities. I have heard rumors that a fight between to individuals broke out last year and someone who wasn't supposed to get punched did and they sued Ocean Downs. But Bike week in OC was awesome, if they could find somewhere bigger in Salisbury to have it, or just in Wicomico county that would be great too, but winterplace park is not big enough and the spot at Sunset Ave is not that large either, I think people are going to be disappointed this year.
ReplyDeleteWow Joe that was a good idea you had, I remember when you suggested it for the Old Mall Property. Way to go Wicomico County!
ReplyDeleteGlad they are not having it in May the same as Myrtle Beach,NC. I believe the last time it was in Ocean City there were complaints from professional ppl. there {attorneys]about the noise etc. What a crock of shit. Bring the bikers here.
ReplyDeleteThis event will not stimulate economic AND development, nothing is being developed. However, it will stimulate the local economy for that week, the folks riding in for this event will have to eat and sleep somewhere.
ReplyDeleteIt's too loud. I don't like the traffic.
ReplyDeleteGo away for those 4 days then.
ReplyDeleteJoe. I always love it when someone paraphrases Judge Schmails and responds with the old "you'll get nothing and like it". The bikers have jobs, money and enjoy a good time. I saw a headline recently where some unemployed young punk got so loaded as a June-Bug in OC that he assaulted a police car; while packing a sack...the bar for stupidity is set so high around here these guys/gals can only make things better.
ReplyDeleteMy way or the highway, RIGHT?
ReplyDeleteto answer the parking comment..all they have to do is park cars at shorebird stadium or another location and shuttle people in on busses...they did that at ocean pines one year and it worked great.
ReplyDeleteI just love their silly costumes and manly tatoos. The ones on the women that is.
ReplyDeleteI was told that it would be held in several locations including
ReplyDeleteWinter Place.
Lots of economic development, pay the police overtime to try to keep peace, pay to clean up the mess afterwards, lost revenue from normal people who don't go anywhere near this bullshit who will stay away from Salisbury.

ReplyDeleteInteresting set of comments, I left ocean city living because it was too noisy, but a week? Bikers are generally great folks, I love to look at the bikes, and meet the characters that drive them.
ReplyDeleteHaving events of cultural diversity is great for our County,
Joe you should become our economic development person. Maybe if you ran the Civic Center we could have many more events and make use of the monster building and make some money in the process.
Wow.....piss, moan, whine, complain...some of you sound like a bunch of crotchety old women! Get with it folks...."bikers" are a VERY diverse crowd these days. You never know who is out enjoying our beautiful Delmarva on their motorcycle! We are usually friendly and happy and DO tend to spend alot of money when we go to these events. Just a heads up, my entire family went together and got our licenses and have finally all gotten cruisers! We have 3 business owners, 1 accountant, 1 single mom, 2 ex fire chiefs, and a therapist! So, how do you stereo-type all bikers now?
ReplyDeleteI for one am excited to have something like this to look forward to. The ride to NC is tough on the backside!! :)

p.s. Joe, maybe we can get Bonnie to go to this one!

My response is LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!!!!!!!!
Give some credit to where credit is due - Sandy Fulton and her group at the Tourism Office pulled this off. Pork in the Park, Autumn Wine Festival and now Bike Week - thanks for giving us some great events!
