Today's Sunday Daily Times

Ladies & Gentlemen, if you don't get the Daily Times any more you certainly didn't miss anything in today's paper. As a matter of fact, the Daily Times covered news today, (their biggest day) on news I produced more than a week ago!

Nevertheless, for those of you who do get the Daily Times, was today's SUNDAY paper the thinnest you've seen in a very long time, or what? If it wasn't for sale ads you could complete the paper in 10 minutes flat!

I guess it is interesting reading week old article featured on Salisbury News in a different format, right? It's kind of like watching 47 & 16 News on TV, it's mainly Salisbury News pieces on TV. The events I've gone to recently there was no Daily Times at all and I wondered if they were going to be "sent" pictures from the people in these events because they fired 50% of their photographers? Looks like I was wrong. They're just not going to cover these events at all.

The Wife and I are debating our subscription once again and trying to decide if it's worth paying for any more? How many of you have cancelled your subscription so far? Also, how many will be cancelling their subscription after they were ripped off this week from OLD NEWS?

The Sunday paper usually does not have the legal notices (foreclosures), which seems to be the main-stay of their advertising recently.

We used to subscribe to the Worcester County Messenger & they often sent the wrong paper or it was two-weeks late.

The Washington Post is about the same price as the Sailsibury Daily Times so if we buy a Sunday paper, I like to get a "real newspaper" for my money.

Growing up in Southern California reading the Los Angeles Times when Oits Chandler was publisher, spoiled me and set my personal expectations to a fairly high level.

Gannett has pretty much bought out all of the local papers here on the Eastern Shore and they deliver the same pablum through all the publications.

It has gotten to the point where my wife gets mad if I bring home the 'free' Worcester County Times because she thinks it is encouraging them to print more.

We like it that you pay for a subscription so we can read about the late delivery, non-delivery and the REALLY crappy production.

Your continued payment for a subscription is kind of a public service, but as Stephanie would say "...you are just encouraging them to print more..." my advice would be listen to Jennifer.

  2. Joe,

I havent paid for the subscription for the Daily Times since March and Im still receiving their newspaper. The newspaper was a waste of my hard working money!! I could read it in 10 minutes or LESS!! Anyways, as long as they keep giving it to me I will take at least 10 minutes out of my day to see the boring and old news around crocked Salisbury!

  3. I canceled my subscription and only buy it business reasons once a week. Foreclosures, auctions, and obituaries...nice happy combo isn't it? For the real news I continue to depend on that Albero guy and his gang.

  4. We canceled our subscription over a month ago. We received a paper for a couple of weeks after we quit. We do not miss it except my wife buys one at the dollar store for 25 cents on Thursdays to get the store coupons.

    I absolutely agree with bosshogg!
You have a responsibility to continue your subscription in order to keep all of who have cancelled there's informed of the "DD" downward spiral.
It is worth my daily trek to the local store to pick up the USA Today in order to read some real news from around the world. The world as the "DD" sees it does not extend beyond the bassettmans office door.

  6. Listen to Jen, Joe and cancell out your worthless subscription. Don't be concerned about sending us the paper, since we don't really read much in it because there isn't much in it!

  7. I cancelled mine, not because of the lack of news, but the inconsistancy. I would rarely get the paper when I supposed to (if at all). When I called to complain, it was always the same excuse.. "We are working to get the problem fixed", that was after going through 10 minutes of "press 1 for subscription information, press 2 for billing.." blah blah blah

  9. I decided to go with just getting the paper four days a week and asked for them to send me a bill for the amount that covered those days. I waited for about two weeks, never got a bill, and then the paper just stopped showing up. Actually, I can read SBYNEWS and get the news much faster - so finally decided to not renew and if I need a paper, will stop by the store to pick one up along the way.

  10. I too was shocked at the Sunday edition of the Disgrace. Effective 11:45 PM tonight, I sent an email to the circulation dept. requesting my subcription be cancelled on 5/30. Unfortunately, I am paid up until then. We will see if I get back a response or if they will ignore it. I will give them to the end of this month to respond to my email.

  11. I STOPPED the Daily Times when Mel Toadvine was laid off when the new regime bought it out! I have no idea when that was maybe 12-15 years ago. I have not missed one day of it and I am a very active Wicomico County resident. At that time, it did not take a rocket scientist to see which way the wind would be blowing. I was right! What we need is the reserection of the Salisbury Advertiser... Anyone remember that nice little local paper?
