Live Bands, Great Food and Skateboarding Is Coming To Downtown Salisbury

A Block Party Skate Park Fundraiser is Slated for June 7

(Salisbury, MD) Join local skateboard enthusiasts at a Block Party in downtown Salisbury on Saturday, June 7th from 12:00pm until 5:00pm. The event, taking place in the City of Salisbury parking lot between the Library and WMDT-TV, is a fundraiser to generate more funding to build a skateboard park in Salisbury. The afternoon will be filled with live bands, great food and skateboarding ramps. Admission is just $10 at the gate. All skaters will be required to wear helmets and submit a signed Release and Waiver form. Advance tickets and Release and Waiver forms will be available at the Connection Skate Shop in Salisbury beginning May 24th.

This is the second fundraiser hosted by the Skate Park Committee. In March, hundreds of skateboarding enthusiasts showed their support at an event held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. Through their combined fundraising efforts, the Skate Park Committee is working to promote the sport of skateboarding and raise the matching money required for state grant funding that may be available to build a skate park.

For more information on the day’s events or the work of the Skate Park Committee, please contact Debbie Stam at (410) 334-3031 - email dstam@ci.salisbury.md.us or Craig Brock at (410) 603-1196 - email cb@relcommtech.com

  1. This is not needed downtown -- pray for rain! How much city money will be spend for various things during and after this event(clean-up) ?

  2. I guess you'd rather have an unorganized drive by shooting event than an organized, clean, enjoyable day out. So tell me, just what is this event going to do to ruin your day/weekend?

You hold the Salisbury Festival that cost the taxpayers $300,000.00 every year, yet you don't bellyache then?

Idiots like you deserve the miserable life you live. Grow up, get over it and let these people enjoy a small portion of THEIR City too!

  4. Sir:

The alternative is not a drive(?) by shooting, but simply not to do an event where it is not appropriate and at City taxpayers cost. The Salisbury Festival is not relevant (I happen to think it should be canned also) -- two wrongs don't make a right.

Some other locations are the Perdue stadium and civic center lots, or the old mall, and let the organizers cover the costs, not the public.

Your personal attack for making a comment that you don't like is not a credit to you, but I won't reciprocate on that basis.

  5. anon 10:04- you my friend are a dumbass. Where would you suggest they hold the event. There is a great need for a skate park in our area. Kids and adults skateboard. As of now, they either have to drive to oc or they are all over the road which is not safe, makeing homemade equipment because it is very expensive to buy, which is unsafe, and getting unneeded tresspassing citations for skating on private property after hours. Most people would like to see city money go to something good and worthwhile as opposed to let's say for instance crooked city lawyers. Why don't you loose a few pounds and go buy a board and see how much fun you can skating looser.

  6. please explaing why that location is not "appropriate"

  7. There were at least two e-mail addresses in which you could have sent your opinion to. Instead you chose to comment here and do so anonymously.

I don't care what you think of my reply comment. However, I doubt man people who actually take the time to read the Post and then comments will firmly agree, you're being ridiculous.

This is not your City. Yes, you have the right to your opinion but I would give it a chance first to see how people respond before you suggest the whole thing be shut down.

Also, IF you were at the Civic Center the last time they held this event, it was a monsterous success! Rather that this group come to YOU the taxpayer and force a Dog Shit Park down your throat or a $2,000,000.00 building at the Zoo, better yet, a $36,000,000.00 Master Plan for the Salisbury Zoo, these people are organizing to use a parking lot that gets NO USE because the Mayor of Salisbury has failed for 10 years to revitalize the Downtown area.

More importantly, this group is NOT putting their hand out for money from YOU the taxpayer, or me. They will raise 100% of the money necessary to create a Skate Park in Salisbury without ANY taxpayer money.

So yes, I called you an Idiot because I still feel that way. Your comment was out of line, (IMO) and you need to stop being a closet blogger. Use your name next time.

  8. Anon 10:04 is a pinhead, like O'Reilly would say. Good grief, an organized event for the kids, what's wrong with that? This town has never been for the young people, what a shame.

  11. Is it beyond peoples ability to be happy about anything at all in this city? Let those kids put their demonstration on in the parking lot, its better than watching them ride the railings at the courthouse or GOB. Good lord, were none of you ever kids? Got enough bars in this town for all of you grown folks, why not a skate park for the kids in this community? Everything else has been taken away from them.
