"OK I have had enough of all the critics out there. Yes the people cooking food at the Hebron Carnival, drink not all of them but some. Why shouldn't they be able to have a drink if they want after all they are donating their free time to cook in a hot and humid kitchen...The Bingo assistants should have the same courtesy. These volunteers for the most part are not the firemen/women that would be operating equipment. They are family and friends of fire dept. members. Lest we forget that while the carnival is operating another fire station usually comes and does stand by for Hebron/Sharptown. I am so sick of all the hypocrites out there. Yes I understand all organizations are suffering for membership because of people like you anonymous. Everyone is scared to crap sideways for fear of being sued! What a society we are creating for the next generation. I feel sorry for the children of tomorrow who are going to have nothing to do but be tethered to Mommy and Daddy because they might be exposed to "LIFE"
DAWN P."
HOW COME THEY DONT SELL BEER WINE THERE, MORE PEOPLE WOULD COM.
ReplyDeleteDawn P. and others,
ReplyDeleteI don't think the issue is with the people drinking, it is with the people drinking and then responding on calls. Yes this does happen and I am a firefighter so I know what I am talking about. When I drink I don't respond on calls. We all in the fire service knows that the fire chief in Hebron with the name that goes with "ocean." drinks and responds to calls. How many times has the Hebron Fire Department covered up this problem. You all are just as guilty for condoning it and re-electing him to the position of Chief.
If you really are "scared of crap sideways of being sued" then you need to do something about the problem and you are the problem. Get rid of Busch before someone else gets killed.
Of course the kitchens and other areas are hot and humid, and volunteers should be allowed to have something to drink while they're manning their areas. Wouldn't water or soda or juice or iced tea or something non-alcoholic be better?
ReplyDeleteDAWN P! YOU ROCK! Thank you for standing up! These people are putting in lots of hours to help their community & extended family! Who are we to judge, unless we start to give the same amount of our time!
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like Hebron has a problem with the leadership, and if the membership supports him, then they are just as guilty. The fire service has changed, when on duty, or when "on call", don't drink, what about that can anyone disagree with. If he does, and the dept. covers for him, it's just a matter of time ............
ReplyDeleteThe fire departments that act this way bring down all those that don't. A lot of fireman used to be drunks with an excuse to not get caught. That is changing, and hopefully the public sees that, and will continue to pressure those that don't change, and embrace those that do. Salisbury has some of the same, and they know it.
ReplyDeleteI really don't mind that volunteers at the Hebron carnival drink so long as they aren't firefighters and don't respond to calls. I do know that Sharptown allows NO DRINKING on their property during the carnival, I think it was just easier that way and that rule goes for everyone there from guests, volunteers and their members. I think they will just save themselves alot of headaches and avoid being beat up on like Hebron is.
ReplyDeleteThere should be no alcohol at a carnival for children.
ReplyDeleteThere should be no alcohol when there is an alarm.
The drinking should be done at there racoon dinners with the strippers and stuff.
Now tell me it aint so.
Sounds like you guys have a
ReplyDeleteproblem with drinking.
See a Shrink ! AA meeting
Well Dawn, had you not been so pissy about it...I'd never said a thing, BUT...the truth is...the fund raiser pays for the beer, thats given to the volunteers {not all} and thats how you get them to volunteer....their not there for the community...their there to booze it up every nite for free, all you can drink free beer!
ReplyDeleteAnd if the farmin werent souse'n up....why the heck would ya need a back up company? But hell...dont take away their liquid courage, you'd loose half the town.
Dont P., as much
What ever happened to having a community "come together" party to raise money for a great cause?
ReplyDeleteYup, I'm sure some firemen and voulenteers do drink and I'm sure some don't. Point being EVERYONE pitches in for the common good.
SHUT UP AND LOVE EACH OTHER !!!!
Sparky
Like you said , I feel sorry for
ReplyDeletethe children of tommorow . They
will turn out to be a bunch of drunks too!
just some good ole boys, never meaning any harm, all they want to do is drink ,when there is an alarm.
ReplyDeleteI think the sloppy ass drunks do a good job. NOTTTT!
ReplyDeleteI'm not against alcohol, at all! But, if they dont sell it there, then why should the workers be drinking. This is suppose to be a family atomosphere.
ReplyDeleteNow that all is said and done.
ReplyDeleteI think that no matter what, Hebron is one of the best fire and ambulance crews i have ever seen.
I dont really care if they drink, ive had a lot of fun with this one. But thank you guys and gals, for your fine service to the community.
This BUDS for you.
Spoken like a true drunk. LOL
ReplyDeletedawn i agree!! everyone forgets there is a standby crew at the station during the carnival! people need to be thankful instead of criticizing because that's going to result in hebron not having a carnival anymore
ReplyDeleteDear Dawn P.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information , I'll
never come to that place again .
I didn't know drunks worked there!!!
I'm sure if I was still drinking and volunteering my time cooking I would want a few beers too.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to see firemen drinking go to The Cork Bar off the boardwalk the week of the fireman's parade. You'll have the time of your life.
I will say that someone operating the rides shouldn't be drinking. I don't think they should sell beer because it is a family event centered around kids.
I see no harm for some of them to have a few beers, they should be in containers like soda cups or something else just not advertise it.
Have a safe and productive event good people.

This is a drunk ass FARMIN trying to convince the readers that it's ok to be a drunk volunteer fireman in Hebron. Get a life dude. Hopefully one day we will get a real county fire department and eliminate the drunks.

I agree. I have little ones that I don't want to see exposed to that corrupt environment.
I can see those drunks getting a child killed now and the county helping them to cover it up. Haven't they been sued before for injuring someone at the carnival?
I'd say that it's wrong to lump all of the County FD's into this drunken category, but in Hebron, if the boot fits, WEAR IT.
ReplyDeleteMost decent firefighters can't stand chief wannabe bush.
ReplyDeleteDrinking at the carnival is not the issue. Let them drink all they want unless they are operating the rides. When the alarm goes off and two fire fighters working in the french fry stand go running for the fire house to cover the call that have been drinking there are issues. Westside was on standby so they didnt have to leave. For what it is worth both are work for a local career fire department one also part time at the beach and should know better.
ReplyDeleteOK, here's the other side.... Where is the liquor board on this matter? There are businesses all around that cannot allow alcoholic beverages outside of their doors, and are being FINED if it "happens", (even though not "allowed") Talk about double standards. These guys don't even have to pay for a license!!! But it is OK
ReplyDeleteWhat say you now WCLCB?
.....more hits to follow, I'm sure

You are wrong, drinking at the carnival is an issue. It is a Fire Department function and they are representing the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department that recieves millions of dollars from the county taxpayers. What a poor example of leadership from the fire department and the so called county leaders that continue to fork over tax dollars year after year.
I was fooled when I voted for Rick Pollit as County Executive. I really thought he was going to make the fire departments more accountable to the citizens. What a typical lying politician. I want my vote back!!
The Hebron Spring Carnival is sponsored by the Lions Club. The Hebron Firemans Carnival is not until July.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they should allow alcohol there. If people want to drink they can do it afterwards. I understand they are volunteering their time but come on if you can't go without a drink every night you need to seek help. Carnivals are usually for the kids. Would others allow drinking at a school function?
ReplyDeleteCalling names, making accusations and snide remarks to me is childish, if there is a problem, report it to the proper authorities. There is a code of ethics, there are rules. When a person sees a violation of either, report it to the proper persons.Personally, to judge the fire fighters on the behavior (totally hearsay,) of a couple is wrong. wrong, wrong.
ReplyDeleteBeing vigilant; caring about one's community is one thing, but being
nasty, and vindictive is another.
I don't have a problem with them having a drink or two, providing it's after their shift, and especially if there is a stand-by crew. The problem is, how long does the stand-by crew stay at the station after the close of the carnival each night? Do they stay long enough for the effect of the alcohol consumed by the Hebron firefighters to wear off?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, is it only the ones working the concession stands, or the operators of the rides? I do have a problem with the consumption of alcohol if the person is also operating the rides that children are on.
It doesn't make it right but fireman's carnivals are well known for their drinking. The Chincoteague carnival in Virginia is one of them. They get falling down drunk and light off fireworks on the 4th of July.
ReplyDeleteThis is scandalous. Is nothing sacred any more? I have spent year after year at Hebron carnival but this takes the cake. Is it a Lions Club carnival or a Fireman's carnival? Either way, the same group of volunteers are about the same. This should not be allowed; let them drink sodas, water, etc., but not beer or stronger. The kids' rides, etc., attract the adults who come to give their children a treat.

It doesn't matter who sponsors the carnival you moron. It is about the Hebron volunteer fireman working the carnivals and drinking. Not only drinking they are responding on calls after consuming alcohol and you know it.
The person that made this post anon 10:51 is obviously a volunteer fireman that knows the difference about who "sponsors" the carnival and they are trying to put up a smoke screen to distract you.
The States Attorney(oops, bad choice), well someone should stake out the carnival every night and watch the ones drinking and responding on calls and then have the State Police catch them in the act. Especially the drivers of the fire trucks or their drunken fire chief.
If that 800lb gorilla, Rick Pollitt had any balls he would make the County Sheriff's Office monitor the actions of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department. Eventually they are going to become a liability to Wicomico County and the tax payers are going to have to pay for the problem again.
