As if the story I produced recently stating the new Fire Station cost the Taxpayers almost $35,000.00 a month, the plot thickens even more!
It turns out, back in 2004 & 2005 there was bonded money for a new Fire Station and new construction that had NOTHING to do with the Lease I already spoke of.
The ordinance that was passed were ordinance #1898 in 2004 and #1934 in 2005. In the FY09 Budget the annual payments for that money borrowed is as follows.
Principal annual payment $257,200.00
Interest annual payment $176,888.00
The ADDITIONAL MONTHLY PAYMENT ABOVE AND BEYOND THE LEASE PAYMENT IS, $36,166.00 per month! Now I should add that there were some additional items in these two ordinances and not 100% towards the Fire Station but the majority of these funds were either for the Fire Department purchase and or two less expensive Fire Trucks.
The actual MONTHLY PAYMENT for the new Fire Department is not $35,000.00 a month. It's actually, ARE YOU SITTING? $70,930.58 PER MONTH!
The grand total ACCORDING TO THESE NUMBERS is $13,462,736.00 I'm told the bonded money was a 15 year note, not a 20, like the Lease. If I'm wrong on it being 15 years and it's actually 20 years, tack on another $2,169,940.00!
Joe that was the DREAM TEAM of DUNN,COMEGYS,AND CATHCART.The city is in horrible shame and all this will come out in the election year.
ReplyDeleteJoe it's a good thing the citizens in this town have someone to investigate these irregularities. I wouldn't know where to begin, however I know where it should end, right at the desk where the buck is supposed to stop, but it looks like some bucks may be passed down the chain. Thank You.
ReplyDeleteThe city of Salisbury should declare bankruptcy. Then the city residents should tar and feather the mayor and all city council members along with Paul. Follow-up with a parade and run them out of own.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the bankrupt city will have to start selling off land to the county to pay off this debt. I hope all city land does not have to be sold and Salisbury ceases to exist- just a memory of what was.Salisbury will be known as the disappeared city.I guess Barrie will have to be Joe's secretary then.
ReplyDeleteThis has to be one of the worst deals possible. And it does look like we have the "Dream Team" to thank for this much debt on the city. It seems so bad, its almost unbelievable!

JUST REMEMBER WHAT I SAID ON PAC 14 MONDAY NIGHT FOLKS. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE MAYOR THINKS OF HER RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS HER OWN WORDS WHEN SHE SAYS, "I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY."
ReplyDeleteOWN UP TO YOUR OWN WORDS AND ACTIONS MAYOR TILGHMAN.
Joe,
ReplyDeleteI've asked that very same question at the council meeting and am still waiting for an answer. I get answers to questions about the streetscape on Isabella St but no answer to "what does I take responsibility" mean. I also get threatening letters from Louise for making a statement of fact but no answer to the question "What does I take full responsibility" mean? I'm still waiting.
Maybe we should all bombard the mayor and council with this question. Load up her inbox. Write a letter to the editor asking the same question, post it in grapevine. Better yet, we could ask her this question during her campaign. We could make bumper stickers, signs. We could even lease a billboard asking the question during her campaign. A dollar to a donut says we'll never get an answer. Well I have the answer...RESIGN, RESIGN NOW.
Donna
This is simply unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteWhere the heck is the college kid with the recall petition? Anyone have an update on this?

This is the best thing I have heard in a long time. LETS ROLL!!!
That kid faded back into the woodwork when the opposition figured out we were not biting. Therefore Barrie now has to launch a $14,000 poll to find out how many people are willing to vote for her again. She couldn't get the names of those that want her gone by a recall petition so now she'll get them with this trumped up survey. I repeat, this $14,000 survey.
ReplyDeleteSave the taxpayers the money Barrie, the answer to your survey is no one is happy with anything in the city other than you and your cohorts. I asked someone tonight to name one good thing that has been done to benefit all the people in Salisbury since she has been in office. I'm still waiting for an answer. Does anyone know the answer?
Donna
Where was the auditor on this one to ensure that restricted bond proceeds were posted to the correct account???

ReplyDeleteBUBBA ("R Necks Mare") COMEGYS KNOWS BANKRUPYCY!
And, what he don't know, Lore can tell him (to keep her job after Barrie is gone).
Kevin:
That college guy was not up to the task of handling the recall petition, and that was obvious from the get-go, so how come you didn't help him?
Poor Salisbury !!! The late Mayor Martin has probably rolled over in his grave numerous times!! When will it stop?? When they don't have a pot to p*** in or a window to throw it out of!!
ReplyDeletea dollar to a donut hmmmmmmmm have you noticed lately there isn't a big difference there now
ReplyDeleteJoe, why do you keep posting this crap. You know the citizens of this run down city don't give a rats ass about what is going on. It is going to be the same ole, same ole and dinglebarrie knows it. A city that has a rental population of 80% doesn't care about where their rent goes. All they care about is survival, just getting by. Things are not going to change until a miracle happens and we get bubba, the weasel and dinglebarrie out of office. It would be extremely difficult to get the renters to vote our way, the right way when you have slum lords using scare tactics to convince them to vote otherwise. The city needs to put a moratorium on all annexations. Annexations are for high density resulting in more rentals and revenue for slum lords, not smart growth. Put a stop to it now!!
ReplyDeleteThe slum lords are the lawyers
ReplyDeleteand the doctors of the area.
Try fighting them!! You are right ,
nothing will change , unless something radical happens and I won't go into that.
Vote Jim Ireton for Mayor
ReplyDeleteVote Terry Cohen for Mayor!
ReplyDeleteI second that motion
ReplyDeleteI'll second for either
ReplyDeleteI'd vote for either Debbie or Terry for mayor and things would get back to normal, whatever that used to be? If we don't vote out this current regime this coming April, then we get what we deserve. Surely the slum lords don't have all that kind of power, do they?
ReplyDeleteA. Goetz
I nominate Bob Caldwell, Jim Ireton, Tim Spies, Debbie Campbell, Terry Cohen for mayor.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of good choices now all we need is for one or more of them to accept the nomination. We also need a GOOD representative for District 1. Not another YES person.
Mr./Ms. 8:17 --
ReplyDeleteCan you get me an appointment with Dr. Donnie Williams for a checkup or with Richard Insley, Esq. for a will??? Is Captain Investments a medical practice or a law firm???
I really do not know waht to do, where to go or who to talk to. I also do not live in the city, but do own a bussiness and property here. Any body have any answers.
ReplyDeleteWanda Disharoon
Wanda,
ReplyDeleteThere are no answers. We're not even sure what all the questions are. These folks in power are masterful at keeping information which should be public from getting out. Fortunately for all of us, this forum allows "conversation" which is informative and enlightening. Until the mayor and the majority of the council begin to be honest and forthright there will be no positive change. Until the voters of this city make a major change happen there will be more of the same...partial disclosures, amended budgets, poor or no communication, and sneaky political moves.
This forum has made some changes possible, but they haven't happened yet. We must keep trying, and keep after them. There IS power in numbers.
We need more than just votes. We need people that will be willing to go door to door during the campaign, and hold signs during and prior to the election. Put signs in their yards, talk to neighbors.
ReplyDeleteIt's not easy for a dozen people to try and reach out to over 10,000 homes and over 20,000 people in the city.
Even though Jordan didn't follow threw with the recall, we do need him to help and speak out come election time so the students aren't shamed again.
The landlords could care less about tax hikes, they just pass that cost on to people that will never be able to own their own home, or students that will be moving away.
I'm rolling on the frickin' floor here, still thinking about today's article in the paper about the unsucessful condo's on Poo Septic River! The greedy are getting exactly what they deserve.
Damn, the more I read about this the more my hiney hurts
ReplyDeleteWe need to put a tall fence around the city and keep all of the occupants within. Let them fight , cheat, kill, etc. each other. Shut them away from the rest of the county and let's all stop even discussing Salisbury. Things are not getting any better and everyone is tired hearing about it. We might want to eventually turn the walled city into a prison as ECI fills up.
ReplyDeleteJoe, Please post a list of all the slumlords and how many houses they rent and how many total houses they have in the city.I can figure the percentage on a yearly basis as you update it yearly.
