In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australian taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!
It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind him of this history lesson.
With Guns...........We Are 'Citizens'.
Without Them........We Are 'Subjects'.
During W.W.II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED !
Note: Admiral Yamamoto who crafted the attack on Pearl Harbor had attended Harvard U 1919-1921 & was Naval Attaché to the U. S. 1925-28. Most of our Navy was destroyed at Pearl Harbor & our Army had been deprived of funding & was ill prepared to defend the country.
It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U. S. Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U. S. & knew that almost all households had guns.
Hey Joe great article . I must admit thought I am a VERY STRONG supporter of gun control . I believe that true gun control is having control of your weapon and hitting what you shoot at . Marylanders had better wake up and do something about all of these control laws being forced down our throats by our elected officials because if we don't we are going to be the first to loose our rights . All the data taken in shows that gun control as our officials see it DOES NOT WORK ! You want crime to decrease then make Maryland a right to carry state without all of the red tape . Ask yourself the question would a criminal rather face an armed citizen or a citizen with no weapon that has to wait for a police officer to get there ? If you have ever had to wait for an officer to show up I think you know the answer .
ReplyDeleteTo the anonymous person who just tried putting up a comment while attacking me, use your name big man or STFU. Your comment was rejected for such. I SYTFU.
ReplyDeleteJoe,
ReplyDeleteI do not want to infringe on anyone's 2nd amendment freedoms,a nd really do not want this to devolve into a "ain't no one gonna take away my gun, you hippie" debate," but the article is a bit of a logical fallacy. (If event A happens, then event B happens, then event A caused event B. Not so.)
This is one of those "arguments" that are put out there to "prove" a point, and is effective only becuase there is no actual content to argue or debate to be had. YOu can not argue with someone who is not actually debating any real point. I clearly understand the message this is implying, but there is no weight to it.
Believe what you want to believe about gun control, and argue your freedoms any way you want, but make sure your position/evidence is credible and reliable.
I realize this may open up the floodgates, as I will be attacked as a "tree-hugging, terrorist-humping, defeatocratic, anti-American," but these types of postings are everywhere on the web.
My two cents. I just think you could have found a stronger posting on this subject, or written one providing your opinions for debate.
Keep up the good work. The imporvements on the blog are great.
Dan,
ReplyDeleteI thank you for your input. Once of the great things about a Blog is that we don't always have to be correct because it is opinion.
That being said, your opinion is just as valuable as mine and everyone else's commenting here.
The article is designed to create "debate," unlike, (let's say) the OPINION of the Daily Times Editorial in today's paper.
Funny part about that is, I called it yesterday or the day before, either the Daily Times wants that water tower gone or the Mayor does or even perhaps both.
They don't create articles based on discussion and debate. Well, I should say, they never change their mind. I do and I'm not always right. I shouldn't be.
It takes a bigger person/organization to not only admit your wrong but it also takes a bigger person to put it out there for ALL to decide, such as this article.
So as you can see, your opinion is valuable to ALL of us and I thank you for using your name. I'll add, there were no personal attacks, like the person I rejected. They too had some good points but they went on a verbal attack against me and I rejected their comment for such.
I have the right to my opinion and like I've stated many times, there's an "x" at the top right corner of the page. If you don't like this Blog, don't come here. If you want your comment posted, even if it's a negative one, leave the personal attacks out and you'll see them go up.
Thank you,
Joe
Joe I read your blog a lot and the post about gun history was the best you have ever done. It was to the point and loaded with facts. I am a advid gun collector ( not a gun nut ) just so the people know, and i am very concerned about my rights. They chip away at us all the time but we never do anything to stop it. You have to think about something here, if it was not for guns we would not have this country, remember we stole it from the indians, and if it were not for guns we might be speaking German right now and not have the freedom to have a blog in the first place. We lost a lot of Americans who fought for our rights over seas and gun ownership was one of those freedoms they died for. When you take away the freedoms our soliders died for then they died for nothing. I don't want that to happen. Everyone has the right to there opinions and that is the way it is supposed to be, but please don't denie me my rights as a American. If you don't like guns, don't by them. Defend your home with a dog if you want but defend it. Joe,,can i have your permission to send your article to the gun magazines i support for reprint. Thanks again for speaking out.

Guns don't kill people. Apes with guns kill people. Hugs and kisses, Charlton Heston.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe,
ReplyDeleteAgain, I am not attacking the messenger or questioning the actual message, just the presentation of it. I think these types of "arguments," or "collections of 'facts'" do not further any debate for either side. However, at least it gets the ball rolling in the discussion.
Also, I have not seen the DT editorial today for a point of reference, so I don't have a full grasp on any underlying messages.
Still, keep it up.
I have no real problem with citizens being able to keep and use guns for sport or for protection. However, I do have reservations about these people who buy assault rifles that can run full automatic and the same for machine pistols. Why in the world does some people feel they need such weapons? A handgun, shotgun, or 30-30 should be enough for anyone. I have never alowed any weapons in my house for quite a few years, and yet feel safe without them.
ReplyDeleteA. Goetz
Mr. Goetz....no-no.
ReplyDeleteYou have been told many times. You CAN NOT own a fully automatic weapon with out special permits.
Also a semi-auto weapon is a far cry from an automatic weapon.
Joe, you talk out of both sides of your mouth. You resent anyone attacking you but you are always abusing Barrie Tilghman. You certainly have childish ways and at times I wonder if you are temporarily mentally unbalanced. God help you.Our church will keep you in our prayers. I will read your name aloud again this Sunday.
ReplyDeletePeople are really hung up on guns. My grandfather's cousin killed more people in Chicago with a straight razor- two slices to the throat and no noise. He was so fast PopPop said he would be turned around walking the other way before the first drop of blood hit the cement. The point is that guns don't kill people. People kill people.
ReplyDeleteWe need guns to protect us from our government.
