Front page headline of the British publication, The Independent projects a bleak future for the United States. Published April 1, one quickly realizes while reading this article this is no April Fools Day joke.
A very well written and engaging article, that has drawn a lot of heat from US agencies and media groups because of it dismal outlook.
Our Government has thus far been avoiding the 'R' word, buttttt OH MY GOD! The Brits think we are heading for another Great Depression, greater than the crash of '29 could ever imagine. The Brit's our 'friends' think this, hmmm, I wonder what our enemies think of us?
Is it time for an intervention?
Addicts have to reach 'rock bottom' in order to learn their lesson. Giving them money to help solve the problems of today merely places a band-aide on the femoral artery of their lives, but it won't solve their long term issues.
Yet, what is being waived in front of our faces to lull us into thinking that everything will be better? Money! But, it's really an 'Economic Stimulus Package', it's not really money it is package of economic stimulus. What exactly does that mean? Don't you think that the government is coming up with far too many catch phrases to make us feel better about just how miserable this whole mess is?
I read an analogy the other day that said when we get the 'Economic Stimulus Check' and we pay our mortgage, then we are just giving more money to the greedy bastards who sold our butts up the pike to enrich their portfolios.
If we pay our taxes with it, then we are essentially saying 'Return to Sender', and if we go to Walmart and splurge and buy some new towels and garden furniture, then we are sending it back to China; from whom our Co-Dependant Government has borrowed it from to make us feel better and ease their guilt just like the parent of an addict!
Maybe we should use it get all of our prescriptions refilled and be sure to ask the Doc for our anti-depressant of choice. There's a gazillion of them out there now...so I'm sure we can all find a flavor that we like. Then we will all become comfortably numb, and maybe it won't matter so much to us anymore.
De`Nial has often been a nice place to visit but I didn't think anyone really lived there.

Great post, Stephanie. Just excellent.
ReplyDeleteNever forget: "Denial is the most powerful force in the universe."
Today, folks, it is EVERYWHERE.
Mrs. Burke has hit the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteToday's news? Unemployment at its highest in 2 years and expected to get higher by years end.
The government is still hoping we ostriches have our head in the sand and won't notice...
We're already IN a friggin Recession.
That hits the nail right smack dab on the head. I also read that the FED is going to run to the rescue and lower interest rates. Well that's great for people that can afford to repay the loan, however there is very little help for the people who are going through foreclosure and can't borrow a penny!
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact I was reading today that Bush's rescue package pushes $23 billion to help bail out banks and mortgage companies and $3 billion will go to help people that are about to become homeless.
My rebate will have to go to a much needed new roof, and I'm most sure the damn shingles are probably made in China and just hope when I decide on a bid I don't get a sub contractor trucking in a boat load of illegal aliens!
Bush has got to be the worst president since Herbert Hoover. His father is the one that brought us our last recession, like father like son......
With all due respect to those who share the view of Mr. Chaney, why is your foreclosure a crisis for me? Foreclosure affects either those making unwise and uninformed decisions or those seeking quick inflated profits.Yes,many exceptions out there, and I wish the best for them.As for illegal workers,we have all allowed this to happen.Like exceeding the posted speed limit,we all think its OK when it benefits us.George being the worst president ever?Maybe, though we all knew he was not the brightest bulb on the tree,we thought he should lead us?Mr.Bush did not force us to overspend or borrow any more than he made us over eat. This recession, like our pot bellies,is of our own doing.
ReplyDeleteBoy I really feel a lot better since the newspaper printed "Those Facts?" About crime being down in the city. Statistics can't be manipulated can they?
ReplyDeleteAnyone have any swampland they want to sell? Sure wished I had bought that swampland that the new SFD station sits on. I could have made a fortune. Didn't somebody make a fortune?
Why is that any different than the "makes it look bad" comment that Gail Barkovich when she was suggesting that anyone working in government should not be conducting personal business with their own department, like the paper printed about Alessi's conducting contracts with the WCLCB stores? And all this talk about Terry and having a lawsuit against the city (really wasn't a lawsuit) when Alessi really did sue the city.
If a county council member suggested it be a "borderline" ethics questions, now why was the Gordo allowed to buy property, then turn around sell it to the city and make a fortune. I thought there was a state law on that. I know that there is a difference in city and county, however if it's state law, it doesn't matter whether it city or county about flipping property to someone else who only re-flipped it and sold to the city at a huge profit. Ethics are ethics in any body of government.
Ame 10:47 People put themselves in debt. They can't resist trading cars often, buying new clothes, etc. In other words, some people have trouble separating their wants from their needs. All we need is food, clothing and shelter. You don't need TV with extra channels, etc. The library has free books to borrow and read. There are economically ways to eat. First, eat home.Make a pot of soup with beans ,potatoes, etc.Buy day old bread, sale items.Drink water. You don't need sodas, beer, etc.Attend funerals for the family usually has food after the burial.Avoid putting any expenses on credit cards if it's a want. OK for a need. And life goes on.
ReplyDeleteJoe, you don't have to worry about a depression. I also know you will give away all the money you can to your friends really in need. You will go back to work andmake more money for us in need. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe may be headed to (or already in) a recession. But - sorry Tim Chaney - it is NOT the job of the US govt to bail out irresponsible borrowers ... or lendors for that matter.
ReplyDeletein the next 4 to 8 years the dems will make it hard for any of us to keep what we have, much less gain anything at all.
ReplyDelete"Today's news? Unemployment at its highest in 2 years and expected to get higher by years end."
ReplyDeletenot to forget the unemployment rate under mr. depending on what is, is clinton was above 6%. you always hear the current numbers, but none of those past.
government SHOULD NOT reimburse any institution for subsidy of poor risk loans. they took a calculated business risk & need to suffer the consequences themselves. gov't bailout is with taxpayer money. heads should roll for these bad decisions, but taxpayers shouldn't have to spring for it.
ReplyDeleteI take it you have no problem with the $23 billion give away to banks and corporations?
ReplyDeleteA bank is a business, if they approved a bad loan, that should be on them. When I was home shopping, the bank kept telling me that I could borrow much more, I didn't feel comfortable with that.
As far as nobody telling the people to spend, lets see, Bush gave away rebates in his first year in office to go out and spend. Then after 9/11 he again suggested that people move on and go out and spend money to stimulate the economy, and this year we are hearing the same mantra.
So much for your theory.
I don't believe Tim Chaneys home is in foreclosure, if I understood his post correctly. I understood it to read OTHERS were experiencing foreclosure and his stimulus check would be used to replace a much needed roof.
ReplyDeleteTim, is this correct?
Read my post again, slowly.I said the Bush administration did not force us to borrow or over spend.Did they suggest it? Sure. Some of us resisted for a variety of reasons.I have always seen "getten more stuff" for what it is,possession gluttony. Now, the federal, state and local governments, along with many individuals, find themselves in serious debt.Again, why should your foreclosure be my crisis?
ReplyDeleteNo I'm not in foreclosure, so I have a crisis that effect's you or anyone else.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't think the first rebate was a good idea, now that this nation is so far in debt I don't think this rebate is a good idea either. However if Bush is going to give every Tom, Dick and Harry money I'll take my share and put it on my roof.
Many of those people fell prey to shady lenders that offered really low interest rates to get people to refinance their homes with an ajustable APR and they are now paying for it, and yes some will be homeless and with children.
I'm not saying the government should just dole out money to bail people out, however keeping those people in their homes and paying their own mortgage with a little help would benefit the nation more than just giving everyone a handout.
I went thru Maryland Bond in 1992 and have my rate fixed and my homeowners insurance and city and county taxes are included in my mortgage payment. Only time my payment changes is when my insurance and taxes go up.
i agree with mr chaney, but theres a few more ppl he left out besides the lending institutions, i call it the triad of greed! bankers , builders and realatards.like he said the bankers always tell you you can afford more than you really can , also the realatards get the crooked appraiser to up the so called price of the home or property.and what most/not all of these local builders are constructing as i have seen is a lower than average in material and quality home with fancy siding and some mexican mulch beds and the realatards grins in the daily rag at us sayin all yours for a mere $350,000 .
ReplyDeleteThank you. That first sentence should have read "I have no crisis that effects you or anyone else."
ReplyDeleteAs far as "Pot Bellies," speak for yourself.
