Before & After

The historic Bell from the old Fire Station 16 has been reconditioned and found a new home on Cypress Street.

It's my understanding that they are looking into electronically setting off the bell for any fires at the new Fire Station rather than sirens.

  1. Oh my what a difference and I hope when they are not busy fighting fires they take turns going out and shining the bell to keep it looking like this.

  3. That looks great. I dont think it will be used for fires. To much wear and tear to the new look. Most likely will be used for funerals and other ceremonies.

  4. Wow...It looks great! Is there a loud siren at the new Fire House or it a silencer, etc.? I don't remember anyone saying

  8. How did that bell get in such sorry shape to start with? If they didn't respect it at the old station, what makes people believe they're going to respect it at the new one?

  9. It was kinda hard to get up the bell tower to polish it! Overall, it was in excellent shape.

  12. Yes, the bell was quite expensive to make look like new. Actually bells in most churches and firehouses look as 16's did when taken down. Weather, birds & time. This bell has been coated to keep the shine unless the bell is scratched.

The volunteers paid for this venture.

  13. Keeping a good coat of wax on it will keep in good condition for a long time to come. Some jewelry polish and a nice soft buffer when it needs it. I like it, hell I never saw it before Joe posted the picture with Brian in it, it is a beautiful piece of history.

Of course it got in that condition from all those years out of reach to clean and pigeons and other birds dropping a present on it!

Unless it's really warranted we really need to try to keep a positive attitude. Next year is a very important election year, and lets not let the negativity drag down all of our hard work.

I do agree there is much more improving to do, lets be selective and pick what has the most impact and priorities. I don't want any C.A.V.E. man letters.

  14. Wow! That sure is a great piece of SFD history. How cool would it be if it could be made to ring when there was a fire call.
