Will Salisbury Lose Another $10 Million This Year?

Will the Tilghman administration misplace more taxpayer funds? Who knows. What we do know is that those great allies of the taxpayer, Salisbury Council members Louise Smith and Gary Comegys are going to make sure that nothing useful will be done to correct the problem.

After paying great lip service to an assembly of angry citizens by assuring them that the Tilghman administration's financial mismanagement of the city would be addressed, both Smith and Comegys have refused to allow any legislation to solve these problems on the council agenda. It appears to be their sincere hope that the public will forget the matter.

For two consecutive council meetings Salisbury Councilwoman Debbie Campbell has offered legislation to begin correction of some of the administration's problems. Smith and Comegys simply aren't interested in correcting the problems. IF the Daily Times ever pressed them on the issue, I am confident that they would claim that "the matter is being worked on", or some other such nonsense. The problem has been worked on (in several work sessions), and the council agreed to a series of steps that needed to be taken. Of course the furor has seemed to die down, so Tilghman's "council leadership" will sit on their hands.

Next month, the budget will be introduced. Smith and Comegys will claim that there simply isn't time to address the problems. During the course of the budget hearings there will be additional money appropriated to give the administration additional bodies, but the problem won't be addressed in time get the audit out on time, or even make sure that accounts are balanced properly prior to the auditors showing up in September.

Why haven't I laid blame at the feet of Salisbury Councilwoman Shanie Shields? It's simple. Shields has actually been an honest broker in this matter. Shanie "I ain't never seen no wasteful government spending" Shields is only interested in spending taxpayer funds. She is on the record stating that she only supports putting more bodies on the government payroll. Solving problems aren't her concern.

  1. To fix a problem they would have to first admit there is a problem. That won't happen. Then they would have to take the time to put to use that mass surrounded by the skull. Not going to happen, not that it can't happen it's because they are all 3 incapable of independent thought. In the mean time Mrs Campbell and Mrs Cohen can continue to beat their heads against a wall, do all of the foot work only to be voted down by the council idiots.

If the mayor and her council supporters spent half as much time working on the city's business as they spend defaming and blaming Campbell and Cohen for the independent actions of a college student, they could actually get some real city work done.

  2. Hmmm! $10 million devided 4 ways comes to $2.5 million, so you say the money is lost. Nah! it ain't lost it has been put somewhere where it can best be appreciated by those who think its their's.
I mean look how hard they work and how under paid they are and how unappreciated they are.
That is the very least the tax payers of Salisbury can do!

  3. LouWeasle was all about "solutions" to the audit mess when she talked at the worksessions on it. Now it's simply important to her and Comegys to move on and put all this past them ('till next year when (and Oland has stated this) the audit management letter will be even worse since the City has not implemented the new risk accounting mandates this year. However, watch the staging of all this due to the election cycle.

  4. As a long time Realtor in Salisbury, it is becoming nearly impossible to sell a home to a family in the city of SBY, because of the extra layer of property taxes. For the average of amount of taxes/month that the City gets (for what?) a buyer can afford a larger house, or perhaps a house in a better neighborhood with better schools. And to see the tax money squandered, well, thats just a crime. For all of us.

  5. The mayor and her flunkie Pam Oland set that $10.2 million aside so they could come back and say "see we needed the full 17% tax increase". Now that it has been exposed they'll come back with a bunch of over expenditures as seen in the last work session, and say "see we needed the tax increase and more". Either way Barrie and her scheme team II look good.

Truth is, they are all so full of shit they stink.

  6. Good ananaysis again Cato! Looks like we are in for some personel expenditures for sure from that $10.2 million surplus found. After all Oland can't do her job without more help, you know? Boy do we ever need some recall papers right away!
